Francis finally found out and tries to explain to the developers of world of warcraft why no one wants to play wow any more and would rather play on a warcraft private server.

Changes characters butt pose over one message but years of begging for a vanilla server and nothing. Nice to see where your allegiances lie Blizzard.
+Eli Mundy a lot more work goes into creating and maintaining a vanilla server compared to changing a character's art. Still though, I think Blizz is missing a huge opportunity not having vanilla servers up for those who want them. Who cares if returning numbers go to a vanilla server or the latest expac, all the money would end up in the same pocket. I would love to re-visit some pre-Cata zones every now and again.

I personally dont play WoW but I'd be pissed if they took down something that functioned but didnt offer a solution. Especially when they wont cooperate with the consumers who aren't complaining about Tracer's butt
+Eli Mundy True, and that is a fair point. The Tracer's butt thing is a whole other convo IMO, but on the other hand Blizz have been shutting down private servers for years. This isn't the first time, and to be fair they ARE within their legal rights to do so. Still, the fact that those private servers exist should have been a wake-up call to Blizz a LONG time ago. You can 'time-shift' one zone already to go back to pre-Cata version. Maybe they'll finally see the demand would be worth it.

+Kurgath Nos pvp server alone had more players than 85% of the servers for live. A lot ofwow servers have 2-300 active players at best, why you think they made connected realms? Nos also just happened to be the most popular vanilla server and made no profit. There are literally hundreds of private servers ranging from vanilla to warlords with more than few making pure bank with item malls and premium accounts. Why arent they shut down? They've been running for years with populations running in the thousands.

Sounds like Runescape except Jagex actually listened to it's players and came out with a old school version of the game that so many people were hoping for. Blizzard are a bunch of noobs. The customer is always right.
They put the server back up blizzard was busy fixing stuff on there game at the moment there not "Noobs"

Hell if it weren't for the shitty fucking garrisons and lack of endgame content I'd have ZERO problems with Warlords, because again, without the garrisons it's actually a really good expansion. If they had spent more time fleshing out an endgame rather than just leaving it to 3 raids that unlocked one after another in quick succession, it could've been GREAT. Definitely better than Cata, anyway.
+VladiMatt If you like it the way it is now that's fine and no one is knocking you for it (though I have been known to throw a few sarcastic/playful jabs at casuals over the years). Some of us however want a game with old school MMO sensibilities. Things like no group finder, hard raids that only the top .5% can actually complete, needing different gear sets for different encounters, harsh death penalties, etc, etc. We are not saying you have to want these things we are saying we enjoy them and want them so what is wrong with providing us a place to enjoy provided there are enough of us willing to sub to make up for the cost cost of the server? There are more of us who want this type of thing than you might think.
+Gorith not to mention the skill tree wherenyou can add 1-2% extra dmg or change to prpc something that might be pointless but the options there for you to experiment with and tinker might be trash but that was part of learning the game an made it difficult till you tried something else... memories of a destro/affi lock.

Elysium is the spiritual successor to Nostalrius, they will be importing people's frozen characters to Nostalrius Returns(or whatever they plan on naming it) from Elysium, though sadly only characters made before 6/11/2016 will be imported. But yea, if you want just a taste of vanilla WoW, head to Elysium.

Oldschool Runescape players wanted the older version of the game and asked Jagex for it. Jagex listened and gave the older players their version while continuing to update the new one. Oldschool runescape pretty much saved Jagex. Jagex is smart. Be like Jagex, Blizzard.

I've never seen such a strong outcry in the WoW community before. And hell, it's not even the WoW community! It's a Vanilla private server that created such strong bonds between its players in a little over a year. No advertising, no big companies involved, but just a bunch of passionate WoW players spreading their love of the game through word of mouth to grow the server. It just goes to show how far things have changed since Vanilla WoW. Personally I'm no longer supporting Blizzard as a company because of what they've done. It's a lot bigger than just shutting down a private server; they're spitting in the faces of hundreds of thousands of people who just want to enjoy the game that Blizzard created. We've been asking for legacy realms for years and they've denied us, then when the community makes one for themselves, Blizzard shuts it down once it starts becoming popular, proving their "You think you want that, but you don't" comments to be wrong. I used to love Blizzard as a company, I've bought all their games since 2005, but they've changed too much and have lost a customer in me until they change their attitude towards their fans. #Youthinkyoudobutyoudont

They'd probably lose money on maintaining the servers and it would take away from development of the current live version. I see no problem with them shutting the server down, with that being said I play neither of them currently so I have no stake in either.

Retail is the real deal, and yes, throughout 12 years more than a hundred million accounts have been created, but if almost a million players are willing to break Blizzards TOS just to play Vanilla, there's definately an audience for it.

EQ tried this and the server died off after a couple years because of neverending content drought. That is THE reason blizzard isn't doing it.

Chill It is in Sweden. I am on the west coast of the US, about as far from the server as you can get, probably excluding Hawaii or Australia, and I get 180-200ms. The delay is barely noticeable.

I asked Blizzard once why they won't bring back Vanilla servers, their response was "We simply can't bring back Vanilla servers because we would have to rebuild the game from scratch, we don't just have the code lying around the office" YET A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT EVEN GETTING PAID CAN DO IT......K.

It's like Blizzard shut down a living history museum devoted to the love of the game... If Final Fantasy and Runescape can endorse or create these retro servers, why can't Blizzard? Are they so blinded by their need for profits that they can't acknowledge the desire for the game to back to its roots, the roots that made WoW into one of the most popular games of all time? Blizz needs to make a game that caters to the needs of their customer base instead of telling us how we should play it.

Diablo 3 will be never as good as it's predecessor, but its in a much better state than when it first came on.
What I find interesting is back in 2004 WoW had 150k players in its first year.. imagine that Nostralrius also had 150k players active in its first year... I feel many have missed this very valuable point.

It's obvious Blizzard has no idea what it's doing. They create this hardcore following, ruin it by fucking up their game, and then try to keep a following by being as casual as possible (ie Hero's of the Storm) to appeal to as many people as possible. At least that's what they expected. Instead they've created a shit storm of well produced but extremely casual and lame games. Yay blizzard.
I quit playing wow just after the cataclysm pack came out. My reason was that wow wasn't wow anymore. I played wow from vanilla. There were a few cool things added by bc but wotlk fucked up a lot of shit. I kept playing because there was still some challenge. Cata hit and several things made me rage. First was that the few classes that could be played in different but effective ways got forced into cookie cutter molds. Most notably, in my opinion, was hunter. I had a beast mastery hunter that never oomed and specialized in group mob burn down. That got taken away over night when they changed the entire mechanic of hunters. Taking away mana and giving that fucking energy bar SCREWED HUNTERS! My damage potential dropped by around 250% over night. I wasn't the only person who mained with a hunter that got outraged. Our gear became less than worthless and it made us take specific gear sets made just for hunters so we could do something.
If that wasn't bad enough, they made it so a new player could get a high level toon. First party I got into the healer spammed their max healing spell and oomed within 10 seconds. The next group the tank had no idea how agro worked. I rage quit soon after and have never gone back. I know a few people who did go back but quit less than a month after. I would play on a vanilla or even a wotlk server. But no. I now play ff11 and am loving life. High challenge, great stories, customization for as far as the eye can see, crafting is rewarding, great community, mostly populated servers, continued updates and expansions that build off of the original game and not overhauling it, interesting mechanics, fantastic music, chocobos (that's an automatic win right there lol), and EPIC boss fights.
Francis seems to almost disappear a few times during this video, Almost as if his opinion hits home for boogie at times.

+Chris Stark Screw flying. Wasn't even close to being the main problem with WoD.
Brett Davis It was a problem though. It made arch/gathering mats outside your garrison annoying and just further incentivized people to stay in their Garrison. I'm against flying typically. But in a shit expac like WoD you need it once you hit max level. Leveling without it is a great idea. But once you hit 100 you should have the option to explore by flight. (And yes I know that flying in itself sort of separates the community.)
Chris Stark Vanilla doesn't have flying and it's not "too annoying" to do; tons of people were doing it. New WoW can keep flying, I don't really care. It's a lost cause. As far as I'm concerned, flying is just one more thing that later iterations of WoW did that ruined the game.
Brett Davis I knew you were going to mention this next and I almost wanted to just put these two point up for when you did:
1.) Yes adding flying was a mistake that separated the community (see last point in my last comment).
2.) However now that it has been implemented it can't be taken out because the player base will have people that favor flying and taking away flying would cause the backlash the forced Blizzard to change their position on flying in Draenor.
If I had a sub I could show you my account hasn't bought flying despite existing since TBC. That being said I agree. WoW is too far gone to be saved. Hence why Legacy servers are so sought after.

I think what the people at Blizzard don't understand is that when I cancelled my WoW subscription, I cancelled ever giving them another cent for any of their other games too, because I felt so betrayed after a decade of being a loyal customer. Warlords of Draenor was the worst fucking expansion. At least in Panda land I was still having fun, even though I didn't raid, and didn't do dungeons anymore.
Overwatch is going to be a complete bomb. I won't even play their free shit, like Hearthstone; I'd rather have empty hard drive space, than play a game of Hearthstone. Nova Missions? Give me a fucking break, that's just DLC they are packaging as a stand-alone product.
What I would find interesting is people not wanting to give up their WoW account, but not wanting to buy the Legion expansion either. You know, people who want to quit, but can't quite bring themselves to do so because of some "goal" they set for themselves or because they consider it a harmless diversion, but don't want to shell out another 60 bucks, so they remain in Warlords and don't move on, and then finally quit. It will be interesting to watch the subscriber base splinter even more when Legion comes out - note that I didn't use the word "community" because that hasn't been there since Wrath ended.
The other thing that would amuse me is if, using our contact data, Blizzard started calling lapsed subscribers with robo-calls or actual salespeople to try to get you to resub for the low low price of whatever it will take to get you to resub. Maybe even offer you a free mount.

low pop servers is probably the way to go, Nos got shut down for being too successful. Blizz couldn't have a highly populated vanilla server, it goes against their famous words "you think you do but you don't"
Blizz should have just make Vanilla WoW available as it's own thing on B.Net. It's been in high demand for the LOOOOONGEST time. They should have thought about doing that forever ago.

***** Truthfully I haven't talked about Blizzard since WoD first released, so on one hand they got my attention. On the other, they screwed up PR both times, even if in their legal right. Doesn't make their stance a well received one, and as Beast commented, like hell this will get us to resub or buy another one of their games so I don't see it as a win, myself. Maybe to new folks who have never heard of em, but Old Blizz is gone and with it their ol' veteran players.
I fucking miss nost, it was just awesome to play on the whole way through. I don't care about easy and hard, I'm not a hardcore player, I just liked that it was fun and social. Honestly I think most of people's complains would disappear if people were still there in WoW. I remember when you would walk into org and you couldn't walk two feet without hitting another player, and that was fun. The only other places I've seen cities as empty as they are on retail is in very low population private servers, and that sucks.
As a hardcore GW2 player this is so sad :(

I´ve been playing on a private server for years. Now we are on WOTLK expansion but also have a BTC realm. I would NEVER pay blizzard for all those fucked up expansions.

The greatness that was Blizzard ended sometime shortly after the release of Starcraft 2. Either way, milking the gaming community with subscription fees on an AMAZINGLY outdated game so they never have to make WoW 2 is probably the greediest thing happening in the gaming industry. Well... maybe second to EA.
I mean I'm gonna have to be more harsh on them than you. Overwatch, while fun, is insanely overrated. Heroes of the Storm is easily the WORST MOBA that has ever been made. The StarCraft 2 expansions were terrible. Also as boogie said, WoW has become worse and worse with each update. Diablo 3 was TERRIBLE at launch, and just barely enjoyable with Reaper of Souls, and even then it's STILL just more Diablo. The plain and simple fact: Blizzard hasn't broken ground, innovated, or had a single original thought in about 8 years. They were amazing in 1999 and the early 2000's, but now they are complete trash.
I wish we could choose where/how we want to play. I started playing in WOTLK and I loved it back then, but like you said, now all we do is stand around in a garrison :/
