Wow Video Soul was the coolest the early days of BET. It's great hear the Temptations tell about the rough side of touring. Rest In Peace David, Melvin, Richard,Paul,Al and Eddie Kendricks
Wow, I love this interview flashback. I still love the Temptations to this day in 2019. I love to listen their music. RIP to all who have passed away. Temptations 4 life 💖💖💖.
Melvin was the main speaker for the group ever since the beginning. He spoke most through performances, interviews, etc. It was basically like his job of the group along with singing/performing
I actually remember recording this on VHS myself off of BET and I enjoyed watching and listening to these legends!!! Thanks 🙏 for sharing this video! Temptations Forever! 🎤❤️🙏✊🏾
Happy birthday late birth day to melivn franklin that handsome man God created on earth that sexy deep voice gives you goose bumps down your skin . RIP melvin franklin. Love you
Richard Street, Ron Tyson, and Ali Ollie Woodson are just as much truth Temptations as Eddie, Paul, David, and Dennis.✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
@ gee gee K ... Melvin "Blue" Franklin died in 1995. Otis Williams is the only living member of the original Temptations. Two other gentlemen in this video, Richard Street and Ali Ollie Woodson have also passed away.
Melvin & Otis are the owner of the US patent/trade name:The Temptations Naturally they would be the group's spokesmen esp Melvin. The Melvin's voice just draws you in.
As an entertainer..Certain Haters would call me a "Temptation Wan-A-Be" and I ALWAYS thought it was the absolute best compliment that a quintet Baritone could receive...TEMPTATIONS FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, I actually watch the movie couple of Times. To understand what's happening in theirs life's. From melvin franklin to Eddie. To Paul to David and Richard
Thanks Melancholy, you are absolutely correct, but one would have to be a long time Tempts fan to know that. I would have liked to hear more from Richard because he was there from the beginning, but he also knew that Blue and Big O often played the spokes man role. And Ali and Ron loved and respected the others as founders and forerunners, so no I'm sure they weren't bored at all. After awhile Richard used his mature experience to interject and it was always appropriate. Also, in such interviews its up to the interviewer to direct questions, "Richard, do you think…?' etc. God bless the Tempts. Its almost impossible now to watch an interview tape from anytime without realizing that two or three of those present are no long with us. I miss 'em all, Peace
Sorry, Richard was there from the beginning, before the Temps were with Motown and he also happened to be Melvin's cousin. Richard was also with a Motown group called the Monitors and sang lead on Greetings(This is Uncle Sam), he also sang from the wings for Paul who was unable to execute his vocal, but could still perform. This was Richard's job from 1968 until he joined in 197. So, Richard was very much a part of the careers of the Temps and Motown's history.
They talk about performing in Las Vegas in March. Ironically enough, David Ruffin, Dennis Edwards & Eddie Kendrick also performed in Vegas at that time. There were separate Temptations acts performing. Ruffin/Kendrick/Edwards performance was later released on CD.
Stephen Lee YES this is true when ppl found out EDDIE David Dennis were performing they went to get REFUNDS from advanced tickets from Otis show to go SED THE 3 original TEMPTS NO IMITATORS ACCEPTED FOR THE BEST OF ALL 5 TEMPTS NOW DENNNIS EDWARDS JOINED HIS GROUP MEMBERS IN HEAVEN SINGING PRAISES IN THE HEAVENLY CHOIR TO OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS WHAT A JOYFUL TIME BEING HAD THERE!!
He had a number of health problems. He started having rheumatoid arthritis in his knees in 1966. He had diabetes at that time starting in the 80’s,and he had took his cortisone shots to keep performing. He was also shot in the hand and leg trying to stop a man from stealing his car in 1978. He was also using ventilators around this time after their concerts to catch his breath. He also became wheelchair bound in 1994,and stop performing live. His last recordings were on the “For Lovers Only” album. He was only able to do his interlude going into his last recording “Life Is But A Dream”. Ray Davis from the Parliament/Funkadelic was hired by Otis to finish the remaining songs on the album. Melvin died while they were still recording the album on February 23rd,1995. The album was eventually released in August of 1995.
The singers lose out in terms of relationships because when they R traveling all the time and leaving the mate behind a woman can get lonely when she feel like turning over and and be caressed and this can not be done if the man is not around loneliness can set in also attraction for another mate may be considered Dennis Edwards was admired much more just settling at the Green and Gold and the Mauls Lounge in Detroit. MI the absence and wear and tear on the body from sitting long periods at time and not being able to stretch legs can cause circulation and other stressful problems on ones body that eventually can lead to death 💀 may the Temptations Rest In Peace DPitts❤️❤️😀🤚🏽🤙🏾
The Temptations History Channel Damn! Ok, Melvin you can shut up now. When Mel isn't talking, Otis is. I feel sorry for Ron, Ollie, and Richard. They are probably bored as hell, since they may as well be on the moon for all that they are supplying to this interview. So rude. Even the dude doing the interview should try and address some questions to the other guys, so they feel like a part of this interview. No surprise, though. It's the same as it's always been; mentioning Ruff in a bad light, as usual, etc... Just sad. But thanks very much for the upload. It was worth seeing, even if it is one of the worst, most one-sided interviews I've ever seen!!
jessica Melvin was not jealous of David at all. Melvin loved David like a brother he wanted to keep David in the group but he didn't have the power. Otis was more jealous of Eddie David and Paul. Melvin was just excited to be alive at this time because he almost died during surgery in 1991. Melvin was the spokesman for the group.

That's ok by me. I could listen to him talk forever....however....we only get to hear this voice here now.

Agreed. They were not 'replacements', they were an extension.
Every Temp added his own little special touch to the sound and group. But ... the classic five, Dennis, and Richard are the best of the Temptations.
Love the temps and the four tops such good music
Blue and Otis are the last two alive on this interview from the fab 5 and deserve all the attention and comments......respect.
