  • Join me near Mesa Verde, CA where I head out to rockhound in the middle of nowhere again. I stumble across a shocking amount fire agates, botryoidal chalcedony, thundereggs, and more.
    By more, I mean tarantulas bigger than my hands. You can hear them when they walk.
    Location information included in the video!

      Thanks for keeping up with the channel! Yes, I know how annoying it is when videos say the location is “Southeast California” 😤

    Tarantulas, snakes, ant lions, velvet ants, tarantula wasps, wind scorpions, scorpions, killer bees, etc... All found in abundance in the desert south west! Too bad you couldn't get to the Hauser or Rainys Well geode beds, they are worth visiting. You still found some great rocks by Coon Hollow camp! If you are ever out that way again you should try and rockhound in the Lavic area off of I-40, west of Ludlow CA. It produces some seriously awesome materials. Check out "Socalrockhound's" channel for more info of that area. The beautifully amazing desert sunsets and sunrises that we often enjoy are natures advanced payments for the sometimes brutal harshness that we must endure during the blistering days and frigid nights that we are out there rockhounding, prospecting and mining. Thanks again for sharing your journey and adventures with us!

      Thank you so much for all the detail in your comments. Seriously!
      What I’m looking to do is compile a list of places to return to from recommendations on my channel, and loop back!
      I’ll check out Socalrockhound too 😎

      That’s awesome, I’m glad the directions were helpful. If you’re up for a hike, head towards the mountains just East of the spot.
      I get a feeling there’s gotta be some really cool ones more off the beaten path!

    Man, only desert rockhounding I've done so far is in Oregon. Anxious to try everywhere in the US West of the Rockies, to be honest. Pro tip with tofu: always press the water out, cut into one inch chunks and marinate before frying. Will be delicious every time. :D Love the encounter with the tarantula.

    • @ThirdPlanetRocks
      @ThirdPlanetRocks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I may have a couple with some slight iridescence to them, but they’re some of the bigger dirty ones.
      Unfortunately I didn’t see any obvious green flashes when I was out there.

      Most of the surface pickings have a coat of desert varnish that hides the true color of the agate. There is a lot of material out there. Most of it won't have much color, but there is definitely fire agate with flashes of color out there.

    • @ThirdPlanetRocks
      @ThirdPlanetRocks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikecarroll2323 Yeah, I agree with you - I think cutting to the center of some of the larger ones gives the best chance at finding “fire” within them
