Easy to find agates in Arizona! Tips & Tricks

- Saddle Mountain has some nice fire agates, but millions of red, yellow and white agates as well. It’s a great spot to visit if you’re new to rockhounding. This site is a great place to become accustomed to looking for agates, these tips and tricks can be translated to many other places as well!

We just hit saddle mountain today and he's not kidding about the agate and quartz every other step. We will be gounf back soon since it's cooler now.

I just randomly found your channel. As a kid, I was always fascinated about rocks. I used to get the rocks where I played pinto baseball and brought them home. I still have a cool black shiny rock that I have till this day....hahahaha.
I came across your video and now I'm hooked, I've been looking for places to go rockhounding as I moved to northwestern az. I've asked people where to go get some rocks, but everyone is hush-hush about telling me where to go. It's like a secret and they can't tell me anything, even in the rock shops.. I want to thank you for telling us where to go to get some beautiful rocks. It's not like I'm going to plunder the entire desert either. Lol, I'm just an average person that loves rockhounding. (Well, I am kinda weird!) Lol 😂 🙏

I love saddle mountain! Thank you for sharing! Next time, you should try going up to the part of the mountain that’s discolored when you look with a map - right up next to the mountain kinda close to the petroglyphs

That's fun! Like you said slow down! I Find if I hold one of the better one's in my hand and occasionally look at it, it kinda refreshes my eye's!
You know after looking/squinting and bending over every couple feet it's easy to lose perspective! Count to 10, take a sip, look at the rock in your hand... usually you'll not go far before your squint vision normalizes and you are back on track!
I love to tumble and carnelians are about one of my favorites.
We have a few here in Washington state and their butes!

I live in Peoria, AZ the New River Trail is basically my back yard.
I am finding what I believe is carnelian. Light passes through. Shape round to flat oval.. little pieces and bigger.
How do tell if it's quart or carnelian.
Also finding agates grey/blue insides.

After it rains they glow in the sun.
Thanks for watching! Quartz will sparkle along the areas it’s broken while carnelian and agates will have areas that may look like broken glass with a rounded inward swoop (conchoidal fracture).

Or the Carnelian.
I found some awesome stones today.
White stone had dimples on one side and crystals cluster on Otherside.
Small Geode I believe.
What if the Carnelian is not broken but smooth and rounded.
How would you know not quartz.

Nice..are there a lot of scorpions and snakes to avoid? So how far from the road were you and is there any way I could get to that location if I wanted to. Where in Arizona was that, neat a city? Looks like some good finds there. How many hours were you out there looking? So is it just certain parts of the desert that have the agates or are they everywhere or more toward those mountain like structures. I think I got to do some research I don't want to come back empty handed if I go there.
I was leaning towards moving south but south west is looking might fun too. There's sooo many lil beauties to be collected your way.
I would love to come tag along with you. I'd be picking up everything. I might annoy you, Lmao! 😂

There are two saddle mountains in Arizona! Are you at the one near mesa or flagstaff?
This one is west of Phoenix, near Tonopah.

Do you know where to look in Southeastern AZ for agates? I can't climb up any mountains anymore 😟
I personally don’t know anyplace that doesn’t involve a lot of climbing, however, I personally love going through washes and other rocky areas to find goodies. As long as you’re aware of conditions and flash flood dangers when you go out you might find some amazing stuff nearby.
What does he spray on the rocks ?
