- On 28 July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a historical resolution recognizing “the right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation as a human right that is essential for the full enjoyment of life and all human rights”.
Clean drinking water is of utmost importance in Pakistan, as it directly impacts public health and well-being. Access to safe and clean water helps prevent waterborne diseases, which are a major concern in the country.
Contaminated water can lead to illnesses like cholera, typhoid, and hepatitis, particularly affecting vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.
Moreover, clean water is essential for proper sanitation and hygiene practices. It contributes to reducing the spread of diseases and ensures a healthier environment. Lack of access to clean water can result in poor sanitation, leading to the contamination of water sources and exacerbating health issues.
Furthermore, clean water is crucial for agricultural and economic development. Agriculture is a significant sector in Pakistan, and a stable water supply is essential for crop irrigation and livestock maintenance.
