Aandd I forgot to add I'm also excited for "Where the Shadows Lie" for Troy--being able to have LOTR monsters and heroes functioning and looking their best is also quite exciting, though it may be some time yet.
Third Age back then showed me how much potential a fantasy total war has. And its the only other total war game, besides warhammer, in which I spent more than a thousand hours. An absolute masterpiece.
Get DAC, then go to the submods and get AGO, which enhances the experience and then go to the submods of AGO and get SUS which enhances the experience as well. And you are ready to go! Literally was downloading the dac as I show this vid
@@TheTerminatorGaming AGO is still kind of in an unfinished state though whereas DAC 4.6 really is the completed game where this talented mod team spent years exploring everything that could be changed without making the game hugely unbalanced. The submod of submods of submods tend to focus on individual factions which make the games ultimately unbalanced if you decide to play most of least popular factions. DAC 4.6 used so many mathematical formulas to make sure every faction made sense and had a sense of logical balance which is so hard for 20+ factions.
Don't forget guys. Everything that has come from this. We wouldn't have without king kong. The one who had the idea of a LOTR mod for medieval 2 plus project manager. He was the Adam and eve of what we enjoy today 😁👍
My favourite man. Best mods I've EVER PLAYED. And it all began with the original team but it wouldn't have come to fruition without the determination of one individual. That was KING KONG. I hope they are OK wherever they might be
I only got into Warhammer because I wanted LOTR, playing as the elves for almost 5k hours now. The issue i have with this Mod is based on a game thats just far to outdated.
I agree, the desperation that you feel when playing as factions like Gondor or Rohan just makes it so intense, so immersive. Third Age is one of the best experiences I've had in gaming, ever. I'm biased since I'm a superfan of both LotR and TW, but still I just feel like they nailed the (in)balance with this mod.
Man thank you so much for this video, this is exactly what I was looking for, I always wanna have something to show my friends or to show other Tolkien fans when talking about TATW/DAC and this is literally the best kind of video ever.
I remember playing third age as a kid (my dad installed it for me), the memories of it still hold a nostalgic place in my heart. Planning to revisit it with the DaC submod as well.
dac is more ˝˝complete˝˝ but also ˝˝balanced˝˝ for vh/vh with ai factions often getting auto expansions on turn 1 while you start with less , for example when ai plays ered luin they have like 5 or so settlements after turn 1 auto expansion , but when you play you only get 2 settlements lmao , dac is great dont get me wrong but some design decisions are borderline autistic , you like playing dwarves? get fucked you only get 2 settlements which can produce a tiny amount of units while the nearby orcs of gundabad have 5 settlements all of which shit out 2 or 3 units per turn , and they are also armor piercing (this is actualy in game btw lol)
I've been playing DaC for a few years now, and I gotta say - this mod is surprisingly balanced even in multiplayer. There are instances when I would play with some friends who also own the game, and DaC truly allows for some pretty gripping matches due to the uniqueness and differing cost-effectiveness of every faction. Definitely worth the download in every way conceivable.
I love how battles play in this mod. you can just feel how the team fine tuned the balance of this engine to its limits. where some aspects of original medeival 2 felt kinda jank like pikemen or absolute cav complete dominance, third age addresses these things and makes every unit feel important in some role, but also counterable. chaff can be used to bind up units, spears can actually hold and break a cavalry charge, but are poorer vs dedicated sword and board, pikes are absolute monsters face up and dont switch to their secondary at a slight disterbance, but can be surrounded or flanked easily. Cav charges are potent, but not just unstoppable forces. heavy infantry holds great and assault infantry grinds well.
Sorry for my bad english, but what i will say is from the heart. No matter how many years will pass 10-20-30-50 i will always Come back to this game and mod to play, i have played many many games but D&C is just pure perfection.
Alright so I am confused just a little bit since I'm somewhat new to downloading mods... do you have to download all 3 and run them at the same time in order to play Third Age? Are you only supposed to choose one of the 3? Are you supposed to choose one of the first 2 regular Third Age or DAC and then pick which submods you want from the overhaul to show up in your gameplay? Several questions there.
worth menioning AOG and SuS for Dac 4.6, as well as DaC 5 Hotfix 3 being out by now, with the creator of AOG now being part of the Team, having adopted a lot - but not all - o what AOG brought to DaC 4.6 . Also worth mentioning M2TW EOP .
This and the mod for Mount and Blade Warband are the best 2 Lotr games I’ve ever played. They spoiled me on expectations for what mods could be and not many other mods come close, LoTR or not.
This video not being a total hint to CA to grab this and run with it, then strap it to a rocket. This is such an amazing mod and it would just be so epic to see it overhauled to the max
Playing Eriador/arnor and there seems to be a bug with army upkeep it’s too high despite not having many high level units or large armies I can build 2 full stack armies in the early stages without it bankrupting me but with eriador where the bulk of the units are militia it’s impossible to keep the my economy going without essentially using console commands to keep adding money

But the thing is Third Age DAC is without doubt a best community project ever created (as much as I would like it to be DoW Ultimate Apocalypse but it's optimization left the server).
@@victim2077 BFME is close to Third Age but TA is still better. DaC is also a better experience than Third Age but the polish is removed from the base mod. Third Age feels like a standalone game while DaC really has that moddy feeling to it.
If you guys love DaC then be sure to check out the former mod leaders channel “Arachir Galudirithon” as his time on TH-cam is coming to an end. He has provided numerous faction overviews and campaigns to show off what many of these factions have to offer.
What are you talking about exactly? When did he announce this? What did I miss? I have been following him since I found DaC and I have not seen any announcement or discussion of him leaving youtube, only that he departed from the DaC team.
@ That is completely fair and totally understandable. A little unexpected and sad to but again, understandable. Going to love watching the last bit of content you push out.
I wish someone would make a mod where instead of purely independent axe, sword or war hammer units it was like units combining all types of weapons in one unit and having multiple different versions of weapons too. That would be pretty neat.
Some units in DaC have bows and then pull out halberds or spears and not just your bog standard crappy sword and nothing else to use so technically what you're saying has been done but it's a technical limitations more than anything I think

Recently started a campaign in Dac V4.6, but I think it its not the latest version? I think I saw someone playing V5? Now my question is should I just play in V5? And how does the installation work? Also the same with V4.6 installation steps?
Played this a few years ago and it was amazing. Sadly my campaign bugged halfway through. I am looking forward to starting a new campaign on the next update :)
The most current version 4.5 is actually very stable. I've got about 130 hours playing just DaC V4.5 exclusively and I've maybe crashed twice I think, maybe even just once.
Third age and DAC are definitly the best mods ever for medieval 2, but you forget the numerous crashes, and the constant lag doing large battles. DAC is really bad when it comes to crashing, ultimately it became almost unplayable and the enemy turns take very long in late game
I been playing DaC mod since it first released, It came a loooong way to what it is today. They used to have Ents but it always crashed the game so were removed but man it was impressive to see not sure if they still have balrog in the stand alone Third Age. Its definitely a must play mod
Ents are still in the game. And so is Balrog, it's a random chance of it appearing so it doesn't show up in every campaign but you can still use it in custom battle anytime you want.
Ents are definitely still in the game though, the wood elf factions have their big mechanic tied around that choice where they can unify and they get like elite tier archer units or they can remain independent and isolationist and they get ents instead
@@kyserblade43 is that the stand alone third age or the DaC version? Because I'm 100% that there are no ents in the DaC mod
2 ปีที่แล้ว +3
@@justinlabrosse8506 There are ents in DaC. I changed them to act like Trolls about 2 years ago and we put them back in shortly before I left the team. They are incredibly rare though and only the Elves of Lothlorien really get access to them. You can play with them in custom battle if you choose Lorien and set the time period to "all".
This is in part why CA hasent made an official LOTR game tbh. Aside from having to compete with a popular and dominating mod (and lets face it, if CA ordered the mod to be dismanteled, the TW community would burn the company to the ground in a heartbeat), it would be a developers nightmare to try and match against the modding community. The biggest problem I see is quality. Studios generally don't make it their priority anymore because they simply don't need too. But because of this, it makes it significantly harder for them to activly challenge the skills of modding communities that outrun their own work on their own engins. Which may be why CA has opted to limit the capabilites of modders so that they reduce the compitition. It sounds backwards too because you would think getting mods like DaC in an engine that made say Attila would just boost their sales 10x and make it worth it to let the modders run wild, BUT it comes at the cost that now if CA makes a Middle-Earth official game, they have to make something that does not just out-style ME2s mods, but outpreform them. Why play an official title from CA if the mod in ME2 has 5x the content with 10x the quality? Getting the rights would be a walk in the park. Making a game that would outpreform the modding community would be a lagistical developers nightmare.
I only got into Warhammer because I wanted LOTR, playing as the elves for almost 5k hours now. The issue i have with this Mod is based on a game thats just far to outdated.
While I have grown to appreciate DaC especially recently especially due to its recent development team changes, I do think that credit is where credit is due. And I think what this video lacked for me is mentioning that DaC's assets especially its high-quality ones are not from them and are worked by other modders in other Mods, especially from Third Age Total War: Reforged, which for the longest time spearheaded the revamped and quality standard for Third Age. And when I say lead, I mean, changed the animations, skeletons, base assets, top-notch textures, etc. And I think those deserve as much praise because they are the ones that worked to make TATW the way it is now. DaC gets the bandwagon for establishing a good campaign but the material it showcases wasn't theirs. And now that those modders who use to share their work with DaC, are now part of their dev team, I am excited about what they can do for the mod even further.
People say the graphics are outdated but when I played the 1st incarnation of CA, Shogun, while the atmosphere was epic but graphics beyond primitive, I challenge any one to replay that or Med 1 (even with the Viking epxansion) and even Rome 2. Med 2 is still this gen graphics and I actually prefer it to the WoW cartoon graphics of Warhammers which at my age (53) and my understanding of art are a step backwards...but that is taste. The only missing thing from CA's Total War is the ability to create random maps, which is simple programming, but still seems to baffle the generation born after computers were invented...I think sid Maiar's Civilization managed this in its first 3 creations but it seems a tragedy that creating randomly generate maps is still taboo in the computer gaming industry. The nearest you get is random loot...not saying computer games do not have it and to be fair TW Med 2 must use some random generation for the battlefields each time they spawn.
Historical Total War is the penultimate. I loved everything up to Shogun 2. Rome 2 and Attila are okay with mods like Fall of the Eagles. I only play as Western or Eastern Rome, with Axum being my favorite choice. I detest 3 Kingdoms, Thrones of Brittania and Total War Troy. I only got Troy and its first DLC free on Epic and I played one campaign and it was totally ruined by the hero mechanics. I don't play Warhammer though I have the game. That being said I can't wait to get my hands on DAC Divide and Conquer. It is sad that CA went the arcadey hero route that too many casual gamers claim they love. I truly love LOTR and wish people cared more about putting out good product rather than worrying about getting every last dollar that they can now. As an Old Boomer and Gamer born in 1964...I have been through all of the iterations of gaming. I miss the days of having individual DVD'S obviating the need for Steam, Epic and/or GOG which are downloading monopolies focused on earning a profit....not in good gaming. I use them all as the tools they are. Nothing more. I swear no allegiance to any of them. Never forget that without individual DVD'S these monopolies can cut off access selectively and/or on a group basis. DAC and Third Age should be officially supported and marketed. Too bad modern Total War games are made so hard to mod now. CA would rather have the easy buck of direct sales of little more than garbage rather than the creativity of the modding realm. CA has a really bad case of NIHS, Not Invented Here Syndrome. That is what we are up against. Sorry for the long rant. Thanks.
I can understand and even agree with the current state of the gaming indistry, but I have to honestly say I disagree with the distaste for Steam/Epic/etc. Of all the platforms I have, Steam and Epic are the two I use the most. Steam has been out the longest so I got the majority of my games on there. Epic I have had for a few years, but only got it to get access to Unreal Engine. And between the two, I have to say I have a LOT of respects for Epic. Mainly becuase of the shear overwealming support they have given to develpers using Unreal Engine and the distance UE has come since is glorified FPS focused days. However, the two platforms (and others) help eliminate a major problem that came with the production of CD's. Supply Chain. I have worked in the sales industry most of my working life and the one thing I hear people complain about the most is how often a store is out of a product. Steam, Epic, and other platforms have completely disolved any reliance on shipping, stocking, and maintaining supplies across a wide chain of stores. they have also opened the doors to allow indi-games to have a better chance of surfacing and gaining a following by eliminating the need for them to arrange deals with stores to carry their games and not only that, gave them the ability to reach wider markets when no longer being ristricted to which store chains or privet businesses would agree to carry your products. They have solved a whole host of issues. The only difference between now and then is that now, other issues are given a bigger spotlight. A business has always and forever will be defined by its ability to generate profit. The reason why the quality of games was so heavily focused back in your day or even earlier is because of how HARD it was to market. There was no point in paying for arrangements to have a store stock your game if no one was going to buy that game to begin with. It would be a waist of space for the store and a massive sink of cash for the studio. If the game didn't sell, that was it. You waisted and your not only lost from the cost of production, you lost probably as much if not more from distribution arangements. It was an absolute requirment the game you made was in as good of a condition as possible before it went to production for sales. Now that this is not an issue though, we get to see the true face of the industry. Just like any other industry. And while they absolutly are capable of produicing better quality games than a lot of what we get today, it simply is no longer a required detail to keep the market going. They can dumb down the quality, make it easier to purchase, reduce the cost of production, and still make the same profit they would have in a store times 10. Besides that, in a way its also helped the market because the developers who do care and the games that are proudly staying true to maintaining quality shine through the muck brighter than ever. They will still dominate the market today, it simply isn't a requirment anymore for a studio to remain relivant. And on the flip side of the topic, it also has the benifit that a studio will have less to worry about when trying new ideas, engines, softwares, and more. While before the idea of a new concept would have been 20x harder to approach, its been made significantly sell damaging of a risk today with the access to games and their markets being made easier. And unfortinatly, the gaming industry is not alone in this issue as films are spiriling in the same direction at an increasingly alarming rate. This is the cost of our digital age. Cutting the production and distribution issues is going to lead to a decrease in quality, decrease in production timelines, etc. They are all so focused on the mindset of maintaining a business that they have forgotten the beauty of quality in their content. It was inevitable, sadly. But as long as we can still get our gems every generation that stand out, there will still be quality games to play or movies to watch. You will just have less of them to debate over or select from.
@@christopherpoet458 I agree 👍 with your reply. I think you and me refer to both sides of the same coin. I remember one of my co-gamers ten years younger than me say he would never ever use Steam in its infancy right during the middle of their production of Half-Life. I told him that he would be cutting himself off from so 🤷 much going on, taking that stance. He did not use Steam for about a year and now he uses it for everything. He and another high thirties fellow gamer say they will never use Epic. In less than five years Epic will be more ubiquitous than it is now. They will get exclusive deals to compete with Steam. To use an analogy...Steam is like Coke and Epic is Pepsi...with GOG and others representing more regional coke brands. Having no physical storefront has helped developers, companies and consumers immensely. These platforms are now a means to an end, not an end in and of themselves. Most of these companies care about their products to a greater or lessor extent. They also want to grow their audience. The excellent things about platforms are the standardization they bring to the industry. Prior to that you were stuck with downloading individual mod packs and hoping they would work 🙏🏾 😕 I remember sometimes taking a day or two to get something to work. Now with Steam, Epic, GOG and others you can be up and running 🏃♂️ with most mods in 15-20 minutes. 30 minutes tops. It was wholesale confusion with the early days of platforms from say about 2007 to 2012...may be off a year or two either way. Just about each major developer and/or company had its own incompatible downloading service. It was really bad back then. 😪 It also coincided with a lot of middling to older gamers swearing they would never use them. I like both worlds. One dead never to rise again, and one representing the here and now as well as the future. It was wonderful to go into a store and physically handle a product before purchasing. You could ask the good store owner or knowledgeable clerk what they thought of something before your purchase. This was filled with inherent bias. They could like a genre like FPS while you like strategy games. Now we do all of that from reading about the games online with those inherent biases. Both systems can be good. One is mostly dead now with the other being front and center. We just have to evolve and keep on evolving and not get stuck along the way. Thanks again. I enjoy this discussion. Due to disability I am a retired graduate 🎓 school professor. 🏫 Compiters and games open up all our worlds. 🌎

An absolute masterpiece.
Get DAC, then go to the submods and get AGO, which enhances the experience and then go to the submods of AGO and get SUS which enhances the experience as well. And you are ready to go!
Literally was downloading the dac as I show this vid
AGO is even better mate you’re right!
Yea my guy.
Love your videos and congrats on 20k!!!
Thank you!
My favourite man.
Best mods I've EVER PLAYED.
And it all began with the original team but it wouldn't have come to fruition without the determination of one individual.
That was KING KONG.
I hope they are OK wherever they might be
By far the best total war experience that I had. This is a work of love.
Thanks for bringing DaC mod into light. It's one of the best mods for Medieval 2.
Hard to believe this mod is running on a game that came out in 2006. Shows how well Medieval 2 has held up.
DAC+ AGO Submod = Excellent mod.
Also, I'm confused... it seems there's a Third Age 4.0 that is more updated that is not compatible with DAC, what is that all about?
dac is more ˝˝complete˝˝ but also ˝˝balanced˝˝ for vh/vh with ai factions often getting auto expansions on turn 1 while you start with less , for example when ai plays ered luin they have like 5 or so settlements after turn 1 auto expansion , but when you play you only get 2 settlements lmao , dac is great dont get me wrong but some design decisions are borderline autistic , you like playing dwarves? get fucked you only get 2 settlements which can produce a tiny amount of units while the nearby orcs of gundabad have 5 settlements all of which shit out 2 or 3 units per turn , and they are also armor piercing (this is actualy in game btw lol)
04:18 can anyone tell me the name of the song in the background? I love it but can’t find it cause I forgot what movie and what the name of it is 😭
Try Erebor orchestral song or something, I know for sure that song is sung by the dwarves of Erebor on The Hobbit movie
Sorry for my bad english, but what i will say is from the heart. No matter how many years will pass 10-20-30-50 i will always Come back to this game and mod to play, i have played many many games but D&C is just pure perfection.
Bro is gonna be on his 60 year and still play this game what a chad
@@yummyimpostor2722 🤣🤣
U finally decided to cover DaC haha, thank you. Great vid as always

Playing Eriador/arnor and there seems to be a bug with army upkeep it’s too high despite not having many high level units or large armies
I can build 2 full stack armies in the early stages without it bankrupting me but with eriador where the bulk of the units are militia it’s impossible to keep the my economy going without essentially using console commands to keep adding money
Magnificent review. Bravo.
I can confirm that this is an amazing Mod!!
Troy mod sounds exciting. Really would love to see a take of LOTR mod on a newer TW game.
Troy, there is a total war game about troy and looks good to unlike this game
@@Anglo-Brit what do you mean "unlike this game" Medieval 2 Total War is one of the best Total Wars games ever made, and the Divide and Conquer Mod makes it even better.
Nice Video.You made my day!
A lot of DAC’s assets come from Third Age: Reforged’s mod, which is a LOTR mod focused on multiplayer. Its better balanced and more entertaining.
Hello there!
Holy shit youtube video compression went full Sauron on this one. I was getting a headache just tryin to watch this =(
why no replenishment for armies though how are you supposed to maintain your armies? and is it really long like the other game? ive played the older version and it never moved much.
DaC isn't a submod of Third Age anymore. They're on the same level as Third Age now, just a mod for total war.
I have had so many issues downloading this over the years I wish they could sell it so I could just have a downloaded file without having to do a whole bunch of extra work. I'm finally at the point of my life where I'm an adult and can't beat playing with files all that often during the day and would love to just pay them to have a download able equipment
according to moddb these mods are for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms, is there any difference between Medieval II: Total War and Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms and can I use these mods with Medieval II: Total War and not Total War Kingdoms?
The music matches your faction. You can get lost in the high elves OST
YES IT IS! The Official LOTR games Do NOT Compare!
So true :)
I wholeheartedly disagree. Both Battle for Middle-Earth are one of the best fantasy RTSes ever made (even better than Warcraft I've said it and I'll die on this hill).
@@christopherpoet458 Oh he’s been talking about it and has declared his current Breeland and Dol Amroth campaigns as his last on TH-cam
@@SheppardOfNumenor that is rather depressing. Hope he is okay.
@@christopherpoet458 I am good, it is just time to step aside. "Now far ahead the Road has gone, let others follow it who can!"
@ That is completely fair and totally understandable. A little unexpected and sad to but again, understandable. Going to love watching the last bit of content you push out.
god damn I'm gonna be playing Med2 4evar boiii!!!
@@stevensummerfield4587 yea I’m talking about units being armed with axes, swords, and hammers all at the same time. That shìt would be beautiful.
"The one mod that rules them all" Agreed.
Man, I have DaC launch error, it DaC v5 and I simply can't start a game.
What I need to do? What is needed to launch this game properly?
Please, is there a solutions, I tried much but it doesn't work?
Recently started a campaign in Dac V4.6, but I think it its not the latest version? I think I saw someone playing V5? Now my question is should I just play in V5? And how does the installation work? Also the same with V4.6 installation steps?
Played this a few years ago and it was amazing. Sadly my campaign bugged halfway through. I am looking forward to starting a new campaign on the next update :)
The most current version 4.5 is actually very stable. I've got about 130 hours playing just DaC V4.5 exclusively and I've maybe crashed twice I think, maybe even just once.
Oh yeah, this - DaC specifically - is what got me into Total War in time for Warhammer Total War. Zero regrets.
Third age and DAC are definitly the best mods ever for medieval 2, but you forget the numerous crashes, and the constant lag doing large battles. DAC is really bad when it comes to crashing, ultimately it became almost unplayable and the enemy turns take very long in late game
I still play more Call of Warhammer than Warhammer TW.
Even if an official LotR TW would come out I'd stick with Divide and Conquer
do u have a instalation guide ?
Here is the DAC installation guide from the Former Mod Leader th-cam.com/video/jFcVSROpnXI/w-d-xo.html
Will there ever be one for total war rome 2?
Doubtful as you can’t edit the Rome 2 map much
Divide and conquer is compatible with massive overhaul?
Third age for medieval 2 is best tw ever made, hands down, after that its rise of mordor.
ITS THE TERMINATOR !!!!!!!
Are DoC and MoS mutually exclusive? Can't we play both together?
You can download them both, but they work separately
@ the legend himself! I'm surprised ents are still in the mod what's the event that causes them to spawn would it be in your DaC faction Reviews?
I'd love a LOTR Total War... But I'm scared they'd mess it up
Love how you pronounce DaC
the massive overhaul submod works with third age and D&C mod??
No.
oh boy would it be cool if CA would make a LOTR Game with their experiance of 3 Warhammer games regarding magic, monsters, flying units etc....
And I thought he meant the third age mod in Attila TW:D
Really wish they would make an actual total war of this but getting the Rights would be hard
Yep, and very expensive
I'm planning to download this mod but my laptop is bad so I have to download older versions :(
Version 5 is in open beta right now!
Nice!

Med 2 is the great sand box game to mod. Hopefully someone will upgrade the graphics, meshes and textures.
Agreed
I wish they would’ve made this mod on a more recent total war w better graphics, it looks amazing. I just can’t stand outdated graphics lol
Yep, that's why i will never play it
The dawnless days
Good stuff
The moment CA actually officially releases a Lord of the Rings Total War is the moment I can die in peace.
wish I could combine the content of dac with the graphics of lotr tw remaster
Lotr is just not as over the top and crazy like Warhammer think that’s why it would appeal to more people
Where ever they might be terminator. I think a huge shutout must go out to KING KONG 😁👍
Indeed, all hail King Kong.
I would love to play it more often. But the 3rd Age Total War Mod crashes a lot in the Campain. :/
Make a search buddy if CA gonna give us an official total war middle earth themed!
The ultimate version of this game is DaC 4.6 with the AGO 2.1 submod.
Could we not have a mod for warhammer total war , would look so much better also could have single unit heroes with abilities
What about middle earth reforged?
The best mod for any tw... with call of warhammer too (also extremely massive!)
Is it still in active development?
Third Age Vanilla is not. Lots of submods though. DaC is very active.
Plz new video for GoT mod for mtw 2
Why cant we get a more polished version of this mod as an actual TW game?

DaC is clearly more polished but too much liberty from the lore, so i stick with MOS.
its balance is also all over the place f or the sake of what the devs called ˝˝˝difficulty˝˝˝, with the ai getting auto expansions while you are stuck with much less just cause , thats the one and only reason ill rather play tatw where most factions start with very few settlements , ˝˝balanced for vh/vh˝˝ lmao there is nothing balanced about vh vh you have to play like a sweaty min maxxer to get anywhere
