@@JALCO13 I tried the version of the mod myself its quite good, the CTD is much less than the previous version, but if you reach the turns around 200 or so it will start from there. but so far so good
A quick correction: Stainless Steel was first released much earlier than 2011. I worked on the mod and produced a couple of submods in the mid-2000s and that was on version 6.
yeah it is more immersive if u use that submod! especially with the retinue system as well as the historical faction names with their native language. I just wish it wouldn't break every 1 hour tho lol
@@wxj5640 the last versions have been more stable for me; I'm particularly excited for a bunch of changes they're making for 0.98, like wonders and recruitment. They'll also have to completely overhaul the code since most of the triggers regarding guilds are broken in Med II but that will come at a later date
@M B part of the video is dedicated to it; it makes everything way more historically accurate but it also rebalances everything, adds and overhauls entire mechanics etc... You can see it as an actual extension of SS.
Was inspired to play SSHIP thanks to your video. Trying a Scotland run Very Hard - Very Hard. Maybe the first Total War campaign I've ever lost! What a unique feeling and a great mod! I will hold the English back at all costs! Scotland Forever!
I played the mod myself with SSHIP .it greatly improves the game and makes it more challenging when your faction expands further. but crashes occur randomly but after around 300 turns which I reached my self. crashes start to occur frequently. but then again great mod 9/10

In the Rome Remaster, the faction, region, map size limits are all removed. I always wished Medieval II could get those same restriction lifted, but Stainless Steel by far does the best with what they're given
Tried one time SS (itself) and it gave M2TW a new depth and difficulty, therefore making it much better in my opinion. Thus, this submod seems dope and a must-try, but I must say that, in my opinion, I would prioritize giving land to the Americas so the iberian Peninsula factions, England and France (even some Nordic factions), have some more room to maneuver, instead of giving so much "useless" land to the Sahara or the steppes. The lands themselves are a much larger scale than the vanilla game. You will have more regions for each nation. I played 6.4 years back and Norway is a full faction instead of just 2 provinces, solidifying norway, sweden, and invading England was such a challenge and absolutely delightful. However, it helped that the English loved putting entire militaries on a single ship which would get raided by longships. Even with dropping 2 20 stacks like that, getting a foothold on England was a complete challenge, especially since the Danes got cocky from the east as well. They have all the different spanish kingdoms, it's more fleshed out.
Been playing Stainless Steel 6.3 for some years now. Defs my favorite mod after Europa Barbarorum II. What I wanna know about the new submods is, have they kept the weird amount of Christmas music? Nothing like plotting out your next big invasion while vibing to that weirdly intense guitar rendition of pan patapan.
@@BigOrangeNetwork Very occasionally, i'm using the full upload = Bug fix compilation. My current French upload crashed because i wiped out the HRE but there's ways to fix that. Stainless Steel is no longer worked on but there's 2 major Sub-mods. Titanium and S.S.H.I.P
Dude you have a really good way of making these mods sound so good. Honestly some of the stuff in say 3 ages sounds really intimidating with every soldier counting so much but then you say that on lower difficulty it's not as critical like in here it get's me excited and hopeful. I'm not the greatest total war player on the work map not really able to plan far ahead but at least I feel a sense of hope with this
2 weeks ago I started playing medieval 2. it's insane that this game is from 2006. the campaign experience (vanilla) is so much more enjoyable and immersive then newer total war games like rome 2. divide et impera brings some good stuff to the table though for rome 2 but this game makes me forget that. it's just more moddable I guess as well. Now i'm going to try stainless steel!
Yeah the new games are way more arcade-like and almost like mobas in some sense, that you get a kick ass hero to level up and get resources and essentially farm creeps across the campaign map to get powerful and to turn your creeps into megas. gotta get that xp for those abilities and complete those quests for those build items. Whereas Medieval 2 was like, hah welcome to what 4x games could be like. Absolutely mind blowing when the games came out, being able to control entire full-sized formations of little military dudes and having them attack each other's? This was the dreams of dreams of medieval/fantasy nerds since we discovered computers. The combat is much slower paced and it feels like it has more weight to it. Units will line up and do battle and wear each other down over time, where as in the more recent total wars you throw some turbocharged owlbear ogres or some Dynasty Warriors at an enemy formation and just explode bodies everywhere. The movements and combats feel much more meaningful, and stainless steel will really strangle you for resources and make sure you spend your florins right. Every last spear man becomes important given the cost and upkeep of units, keeping those guys alive is important. On the other hand, the levy cost is about the same as the garrison cost, so if they're not fighting, there's no reason to spend 120 florins a day on a unit that costs 160 to hire, especially if they have no or low experience. There's so much more money managing I feel to the lower games. The newer games feel like deathball questing and moba farming to get the ultimate items to defeat your enemy. Total War: Medieval 2 felt like a tactical conquest of keeping a struggling medieval kingdom alive against constant threats, conspirators, and barbarians at all sides. The newer ones are like, YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE! You will lead everyone to glory... where as Medieval 2 is like "why are you attacking catholics? THE POPE DECLARES A CRUSADE ON YOU HERETIC! Please slaughter minorities only, we get less tribute when you kill christians." And then the muslims declare a jihad on you because you are a weak christian nation. Love this game lol. Then the vikings raid you because you are a weak nation. Medieval 2 is a massive pecking order of shitting on the next person, it's great. The other games feels more like turbo ninja warrior mode and combat feels like watching someone else play UEBS.
@@ItsAlpacaMan vanilla is a fantastic experience on its own imho. I beat the grand campaign 3 different times, britannia twice (once as norse, once irish), crusades once. never got too into americas although it looks intriguing and tectonic campaign was hard to finish. I'd give it a whirl to understand the basics with a grand campaign at least once and the systems before you start getting into mods that start really tweaking things. if you enjoy the m2 vanilla experience nothing wrong with trying the expansion campaigns i've felt they were all superbly done. I've probably put at least 1000 hours into MT2W, and most of that was unmodded even.
that being said, stainless steel blew me out of the water the level of immersion beyond vanilla. although it is a much harder game, especially on the economic side of things.
I run Roar of Conquest, which mods Stainless Steel. My other middle age fix I get is the 1100ad mod for rome 2. Love the mods, love the videos, keep them comeing.
SS, DEI and Medivial Kindoms man these are fucking works of passion i only pray that in the future we will get the mechanics of these mods in vannila games and not having to wait 10 years to get a decent total war...
I have today 27th April 2024 tried to install this mod Stainless steel for Medieval 2 for 4 hours and still with no success, keeps "can't find Kingdoms" file even though I put the file in the game folder and named it, so Pi**ed off, just cannot get it installed.
It's the last thing he says in the video, man. Take the medieval2.exe, copy it, and rename the copy kingdoms.exe. make sure LAA patch is applied to both
I share your enthusiasm for the Total War series. My favs are the medieval 2 mods, as well as the remastered Rome, Barbarian and Alexander games. So can I pay ANYone to help me install some of these mods that I'm just now hearing about for the first time? PLEASE, IM DESPERATE!
Yes in a way but others also just use earlier units but just upgraded especially Eastern, Islamic and Pagan factions. (For example, the Crusader states have very Elite Late game units like the Templar Guard, Templar/French Longbowmen and Demi Lancers for late gam but for the most part just uses just upgraded Mid Tier units like the Lazarus Knights and Foot Knights of Jerusalem, others like the Byzantines just have the Elites from their Capital with the exemption of the Alamanoi and Pronarii that can be recruited in Citidels while most of the Army are their Standard Mid Tier stuff just fully upgraded which is very limiting for Late Game especially Pagan factions as some just have 1 or 2 Late Tier Elites.)

I enjoy the enthusiasm Terminator but I really don't see the hype around SS. All of these things you mentioned are already being done by Bulat Steel Mod with the bonus of not crashing every time. Could you do a video on Bulat Steel to see for yourself?
Loved that mod, played it a lot on my laptop. Though now my gaming PC has issues.. My GPU is reaching temperatures of 85 degrees Celsius. Then I updated my HWmonitor softare which now shows hot spot temp. meaning hottest temp on GPU, and that shows 97 degrees Celsius. I nearly had a heart attack. I have no idea what is causing this, or if, for that matter, it has always been like this. This hot spot temp got me all worried.
I didnt know this mod at all and seems really fun, expecially because you mentioned the fact that is quite historical (except maybe for the absence of the discovery of the Americas), so for this reason i wanted to ask if it possible to play this mod on MTW2 Kingdom steam version. tried it years ago is it still one turn per year? i hate that about medieval 2. i can change it myself but it would probably break things like events and whatnot
After playing this mod here is a personal opinion the big problem with Total War is that sometimes it seems that the mod developers or game developers don't respect history. If you want to create or to modify historical game then it should be most accurate in small details, with mods for Medieval 2 most changes are good but it seems that they are not made for every faction it seems that every change is only effecting the faction which you chose to play with. For example this mod has a lot of great stuff but what's the point if that only affects you as a player and not the opponent, if you want a game where you fight against everybody than historical era is wrong choose, for that there is Total war Warhammer. To better understand what needs to be changed in these games here is a list of some things: 1. Ransom when army wins or loses battle, after that there are tree options: Execute, Free or Ransom, with Ransom option if you chose that and they don't pay in reality that can affect morale of the army in the future and the Faction leader should have less authority over army and generals if he more times refuses to pay ransom, also if he pays morale should be increased, also this can affect mercenary units 2. Army recruitment population and army recruitment should be very close connected, if you have population in total of 100.000 than it is fair to say that you can recruit about 20% of that population, so for smaller population smaller army capacity and also the amount of weaponry should affect amount of soldiers that a faction can produce, if you win a battle either on open field or a settlement and if you decide to sack it then you can take some steel and weapons from them, also it would be great if you can just put your army on the enemy territory where they have mines and to steel their resource and also to destroy it if you decide 3. Units lifespan if someone, game or mod developers want to make a huge change then they should try to add lifespan for units, the idea is that a unit have lets say 30 turns life span, that means if 1 turn is 1 year that unit will be alive for 30 years and after that they retire, so you cannot wage a constant war with one army forever, also for mercenary units it would be nice to have option to hire them for limited time period like for 5 years or five turns 4. Army Upkeep if any faction has a financial problem and goes bankrupt then the army will desert or become rebellious, from my experience a lot of times when i am at war with another faction i check their financial status and they don't have money and yet they keep attacking me with big armies and that's just bad for game experience when you play historical game, also if someone can bring the unit lifespan feature in game, then retirement upkeep can be added also and if a faction can manage to pay everything for army morale and public order and loyalty of generals will increase for that factions and specially for faction leader, when the faction leader dies and then you stop paying them their pensions then that new ruler will face difficulty and unpopularity by his own people 5. City Buildings each province should have specific terrain, for example, now in every territory you can build crop farms, and that is just wrong because its not possible that every province can produce big amount of food, also maybe it can be good to add that provinces with big farms and lots of foods attracts more population and those with smaller food supplies less people, also it would be nice to add more buildings for some regions, some olive plantations or wine or fisherman's huts, also in reality its not possible that every castle and city be upgraded to maximum its just not historically accurate
Do you need Stainless Steel in order to have SSHIP? I remember with some of the original Total War Games installing more than one mod was not always friendly to the user or the game for that matter. If I install SS, will I also be able to add SSHIP to it? Or is it a choice between one or the other?
Did they nerf heavy cavalry in SSHIP? I played the original SS mod years ago and I remember heavy cavalry being comically overpowered. The AI could charge their cav straight head on into my sergeant spearmen and my so called "anti cav" unit would get absolutely destroyed.
agree. I actually looked for a submod or something there wasn't so I went into the unit states in notepad and manually reduced the charge stat. It was absurd. I LOVE SS other than that and I had issues with crashing :(
Once again its not the "Byzantines" but Empire of the Romans or Eastern Roman Empire. This submod got it right by labeling them as Basileia ton Rhomaion
I tried playing SS once, but the game crashed everytime I played siege battles. So I never played it gain. Gonna install SSHIP and hope it fixes that problem.
I can never get Stainless Steel to work... I've tried the fix you mentioned at the end of the video and I'm able to launch it for a brief second before it crashes. how can i fix this?
The only bad thing is that about these type of mods is that it’s difficult as hell to download. The other ones are easy since it’s just the steam workshop

I play this much more than the latest Total Wars (or mods), there is something SO fun about Stainless Steel (with the bug fix compilation)!

Try Bulat Steel. Better than SS imo. But the best medieval Medieval 2 experience - Tsardoms.
I share your enthusiasm for the Total War series. My favs are the medieval 2 mods, as well as the remastered Rome, Barbarian and Alexander games. So can I pay ANYone to help me install some of these mods that I'm just now hearing about for the first time? PLEASE, IM DESPERATE!

But do the countries during the early era eventually get reforms for their unit roster? If thats the case, itll be worth playing a full campaign
Yes in a way but others also just use earlier units but just upgraded especially Eastern, Islamic and Pagan factions. (For example, the Crusader states have very Elite Late game units like the Templar Guard, Templar/French Longbowmen and Demi Lancers for late gam but for the most part just uses just upgraded Mid Tier units like the Lazarus Knights and Foot Knights of Jerusalem, others like the Byzantines just have the Elites from their Capital with the exemption of the Alamanoi and Pronarii that can be recruited in Citidels while most of the Army are their Standard Mid Tier stuff just fully upgraded which is very limiting for Late Game especially Pagan factions as some just have 1 or 2 Late Tier Elites.)

medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now EXIT. I got this error when clicking on the launcher
My game always crash when I get deeper into the campaigns or sometimes when siege battles happens 😞
How is the unit pathing for this mod? Was it improved? Can unit pathing AI be even changed/improved?
Unit pathing will always be the same, can’t mod it unfortunately

All of these things you mentioned are already being done by Bulat Steel Mod with the bonus of not crashing every time.

Loved that mod, played it a lot on my laptop. Though now my gaming PC has issues.. My GPU is reaching temperatures of 85 degrees Celsius. Then I updated my HWmonitor softare which now shows hot spot temp. meaning hottest temp on GPU, and that shows 97 degrees Celsius. I nearly had a heart attack. I have no idea what is causing this, or if, for that matter, it has always been like this. This hot spot temp got me all worried.
But i have a steam version of Medieval 2 Total War, can i use the mod?
I didnt know this mod at all and seems really fun, expecially because you mentioned the fact that is quite historical (except maybe for the absence of the discovery of the Americas), so for this reason i wanted to ask if it possible to play this mod on MTW2 Kingdom steam version. tried it years ago is it still one turn per year? i hate that about medieval 2. i can change it myself but it would probably break things like events and whatnot

Stainless Steel is truly the best mod in Medieval II: Total War.
MTW2 is the best. These mods are great for re playability

After playing this mod here is a personal opinion the big problem with Total War is that sometimes it seems that the mod developers or game developers don't respect history.
If you want to create or to modify historical game then it should be most accurate in small details, with mods for Medieval 2 most changes are good but it seems that they are not made for every faction it seems that every change is only effecting the faction which you chose to play with.
For example this mod has a lot of great stuff but what's the point if that only affects you as a player and not the opponent, if you want a game where you fight against everybody than historical era is wrong choose, for that there is Total war Warhammer. To better understand what needs to be changed in these games here is a list of some things:
1. Ransom
when army wins or loses battle, after that there are tree options: Execute, Free or Ransom, with Ransom option if you chose that and they don't pay in reality that can affect morale of the army in the future and the Faction leader should have less authority over army and generals if he more times refuses to pay ransom, also if he pays morale should be increased, also this can affect mercenary units
2. Army recruitment
population and army recruitment should be very close connected, if you have population in total of 100.000 than it is fair to say that you can recruit about 20% of that population, so for smaller population smaller army capacity and also the amount of weaponry should affect amount of soldiers that a faction can produce, if you win a battle either on open field or a settlement and if you decide to sack it then you can take some steel and weapons from them, also it would be great if you can just put your army on the enemy territory where they have mines and to steel their resource and also to destroy it if you decide
3. Units lifespan
if someone, game or mod developers want to make a huge change then they should try to add lifespan for units, the idea is that a unit have lets say 30 turns life span, that means if 1 turn is 1 year that unit will be alive for 30 years and after that they retire, so you cannot wage a constant war with one army forever, also for mercenary units it would be nice to have option to hire them for limited time period like for 5 years or five turns
4. Army Upkeep
if any faction has a financial problem and goes bankrupt then the army will desert or become rebellious, from my experience a lot of times when i am at war with another faction i check their financial status and they don't have money and yet they keep attacking me with big armies and that's just bad for game experience when you play historical game, also if someone can bring the unit lifespan feature in game, then retirement upkeep can be added also and if a faction can manage to pay everything for army morale and public order and loyalty of generals will increase for that factions and specially for faction leader, when the faction leader dies and then you stop paying them their pensions then that new ruler will face difficulty and unpopularity by his own people
5. City Buildings
each province should have specific terrain, for example, now in every territory you can build crop farms, and that is just wrong because its not possible that every province can produce big amount of food, also maybe it can be good to add that provinces with big farms and lots of foods attracts more population and those with smaller food supplies less people, also it would be nice to add more buildings for some regions, some olive plantations or wine or fisherman's huts, also in reality its not possible that every castle and city be upgraded to maximum its just not historically accurate
Do you need Stainless Steel in order to have SSHIP? I remember with some of the original Total War Games installing more than one mod was not always friendly to the user or the game for that matter. If I install SS, will I also be able to add SSHIP to it? Or is it a choice between one or the other?
Did they nerf heavy cavalry in SSHIP? I played the original SS mod years ago and I remember heavy cavalry being comically overpowered. The AI could charge their cav straight head on into my sergeant spearmen and my so called "anti cav" unit would get absolutely destroyed.
agree. I actually looked for a submod or something there wasn't so I went into the unit states in notepad and manually reduced the charge stat. It was absurd. I LOVE SS other than that and I had issues with crashing :(

SS being Crusader Kings mod is an overstatement. The mod is still too shallow, and i don't blame the modders, i blame the M2 limitations
Once again its not the "Byzantines" but Empire of the Romans or Eastern Roman Empire. This submod got it right by labeling them as Basileia ton Rhomaion
I tried playing SS once, but the game crashed everytime I played siege battles. So I never played it gain. Gonna install SSHIP and hope it fixes that problem.

No total war experience beats fighting off a jihad as the byzantines on very hard in SS.
Literally what I cut my teeth on, and made this genre, and also puts the modern TWs (which I like) to shame.
I appreciate SSHIP detail but it too unstable for me, Crash every 10 turn or less if I unlucky.
