I haven't watched this film in 30 years. But I watched it a hundred times as a kid. Every single clip from it fires parts of my brain that take me right back. So powerful.
Same! This is one of those movies I probably haven't seen since I was a kid, but I saw it so many times back then that watching these clips left me extremely nostalgic
Rest in Peace King 😢. I used to work at the Coach purse store at the Cabazon fashion center (I’m originally from Redlands). Had no idea this film was filmed locally in so cal.
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is a classic. Fun. Enjoyable. Entertaining. Rest in Peace our Pee-Wee Herman, Paul Reubens. Thank you for the laughs and one of the greatest and funniest comedies of all time.
My favorite movie growing up! I loved this video. The scene in the movie when Pee Wee is at the bus station and reunites with Simone, is actually in Burbank off of San Fernando Rd on this little street named Air Way. It's on Disney Imagineering property. When I worked there I didn't realize it until years later after re watching Pee Wee's Big Adventure. My mind exploded!
We had very few films on VHS. And THIS is one of them. I couldn't get enough of this film. Pee wee's contraption, the chubby neighbour, the alamo, TEQUILA!
As a child of the 80s I must have watched this a hundred times. The song "Tequila" will forever bring images of Peewee dancing on top of a bar first and foremost.
@andrewgrove1691 It’s called the Big Shoe Dance, used to do in the in stand-up routine without any music, just him grunting - it was awkward and hilarious
Our world was BRIGHTENED by the sunshine when Paul was with us! There was laughter that was so SORELY needed and is even MORE NEEDED in these tumultuous days we are now living in! There was imagination, there was fantasy, and the ability for all of us to travel back to our childhood again. Paul so skillfully transported us there! You were a beautiful soul. Now the sunshine has gone out. But it’s gonna forever live in our hearts and through his movies. RIP, Pee Wee. You’ll never be forgotten!
Even as a kid I remember watching that scene and love how he seems to just become a biker, meanwhile I knew riding wasn't that easy. Then he crashed and I remember thinking: exactly how it should've happened!

I can’t say how many times I’ve visited cabazon since childhood during the summer. One of my favorite places to stop while on my way to Joshua Tree or Palm Springs.
I loved this movie growing up, must've watched it 100 times. My 4th birthday was even Pee Wee themed and my mom made a cake in the shape of his head lol. Definitely gotta give it a rewatch soon
2:25 the "third street promenade" did not technically exist, as such, when this film was made. This is why it doesn't currently look like it does in the film. Pee-wee was actually at what was called the Santa Monica Mall, which was redesigned into the Third Street Promenade in September 1989, several years after the film was made.
The legacy that paul rubens left will be imprinted in many minds of many child hood memories of joy and happiness as he transformed into pee wee herman ❤❤❤❤❤❤thankyou paul rest easy fly high with angels 😇 ❤
I was stationed in San Antonio for five years. Every time we’d go to the Alamo, I’d purposely ask “where’s the basement” and make comments like “can you say adobe!” 😂😂😂
I'm going to go back and watch this movie again. It's been decades since I've watched it. Tim Burton had done some live action shorts before Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Frankenweenie was what Paul Rubens watched when someone suggested Tim Burton to direct the movie. That was a live action short film he did for Disney (I think.). Not to be confused with the later animated feature length version.
I grew up near the Cabazon dinosaurs. It was always a special treat to visit them as a kid. I also had pie at the diner that is no longer there. Sad that its gone.
I remember being on a bus, in California, on my way to my second deployment to Iraq. Looking out the window, I saw a big dinosaur statue, and thought "whoa! Is that from Pee-wee's Big Adventure?" I'm still not sure if it was, but I tell myself it was, because this was one of my favorite movies as a kid.
I LOVE this MOViE I bought this movie on TH-cam a long time ago & I still watch it(alone) but most of the time with my kids(my 5yr old son) who also really likes Pee Wee Herman & the NEW Pee Wee movie on Netflix so I had to show my kids the ORiGiNAL Pee Wee movie. I watched this movie countless times(during my childhood with my baby sister). Watching this movie as a child in the 90’s, I’ve always wanted to go to the place where the dinosaurs 🦕 🦖 are/were in this movie, fast forward over 20yrs later, My wife & I are both 33yrs old, I’ve been happily married for 14yrs, with 3 beautiful children(14, 11, & 5) & I took my wife & kids to Cabazon, CA in 2020 to go see Denny The Dinosaur & Mr.Rex & it was just as(if not) more amazing seeing it as an adult as it would’ve been seeing it as a child. Can’t wait to take the family this year during the summertime(best time to go to Cabazon, CA). Thank You Pee Wee for all of my GREAT childhood memories
I remember driving through the desert in Southern California on the 10 highway when I was really young. 1977 roughly. Mom taking us to Arizona on summer vacation. I was asleep in the front bench seat of our olive green Chevy station wagon, my sister’s asleep in the big backseat. It was dawn in the middle of the desert. My mom softly wakes me up “Lovey..Wake up.. there’s dinosaurs!” I shot up in the front seat & was amazed to see 2 huge dinosaurs in the middle of nowhere! Back then, there wasn’t anything else there but the Wheel Inn diner. It was magical & my favorite memory 🦕🦖
I remember taking my brother to see this movie - I honestly did not want to see it! but I promised and we went! Large Marge - who you didn't show, scared the shite out of me! LOL! Great Claymation effect! The part about Bob Hope and his wife being buried in that garden was a shocker to me as well!
In the early nineties my brother was a high school freshman and happened to find a bright red pee we bike at a thrift store. It had tassels and all of that and my brother was great at mimicry and impressions so to See him going down the road with pee wee's laughs and chuckles coming out of him Was whatever beyond hilarious is. He still has the bike.
"It's like I'm trying to unravel a cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting!"
I visited the Wheel Inn when it was still around. They had NOTHING there to indicate the movie was shot there, not even a poster of Pee-wee. Oddly enough, they did have a number of cheesy portraits of Bogart and Monroe and such for sale, the kind of shit they have on Hollywood Blvd. It was just a regular greasy spoon diner. There's a big outlet mall nearby.
I thoroughly loved Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman early on, and then … I kind of forgot about him until I heard about him passing away the other day…his last statement being something close to, “I’m truly sorry for not sharing that I had cancer and was dying.” What a kind, thoughtful person, though- when I heard his last statement I felt that I should be apologizing to him… I wish I had appreciated him more while he was alive. He was a sweet and astonishingly, talented character actor who when in his moment as PeeWee Herman, became exactly like I was when I was a 7 year old…. and if I may speak for all in my generation…was just like all of us kids at heart…It didn’t matter that I was a girl! I know you’re looking dapper Paul Reubens.. I’m thinking of you.❤
thankful I got to go to the actual house...wish I would've seen this before I went, I would've gone to all these places...this video makes me wanna fly across the country again
I used to live near the Santa Monica Promenade in the 90s and it still looked very much like it did in Pee Wee's Big Adventure then. I got such a kick walking around there and seeing all the sights from that famous movie scene. Now it looks like garbage without any personality. At one end of the Promenade there used to be a Mall called Santa Monica Place. They tore that down, doubled its size, made sure it looks as non-descript and blah as possible, and that's what's there now. Why am I bringing it up? Because you once knew it as the Mall from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. RIP Santa Monica Promenade.
The Peewee and hobo inside the train scene AND Peewee jumps out the train scenes where filmed in Oxnard and Camarillo California (right where the two cities connect)!! As said by both Paul Reubens and Tim Burton in the bonus features “Commentary” of the ‘Big Adventure’ movie. Rip Peewee Herman
I never realized I'd driven right past most of these locations while I lived in SoCal! I did know about the dinosaur location on the I-10, it's pretty hard to miss...
This is fantastic. I loved this movie sooo much when I was a kid and watched it so many times. Haven't seen it in years but all these scenes are so familiar wow.. I just realized I've been to one of these locations years ago and had no idea it was in this movie 😂 Thanks for putting this together. You've made me want to watch this again!
Probably saw this movie a dozen times. Adults at the daycare didn't care what we did and someone had the VHS. Lol. I love going to the dinosaurs. We only went there bc my dad got dates (the fruit) nearby.
Should have done it with an audio commentary track from Pee Wee. The whole track should have been just him “HA HA, heh heh heh” laughing at his own antics.
I've seen one of those same production models of the bicycle with my own two eyes, as well as myriad other vehicles from the world of pop culture, at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois. Mad Max' Interceptor, the Mach 5, the ECTO-1, the Adam West Batmobile, and more can be found there.
