- In this video I will share with you the entire install process for building Schluter Kerdi curbless (zero entry / ADA ) shower system and a Schluter heated floor. This project was in Warren NJ
A curbless/zero entry/ADA shower is the best option for people that do not want to lift there foot over a massive tub or even a 6" high shower curb.

I like the way you waterproofed the entire bathroom. Nice job.
thank you. With curdles shower you need to waterproof the floor at least 3' outside the shower and a few inches up the walls
I like the way only the seams were waterproofed, not the entire bathroom
Fantastic Don ! Only the Best !
Great video, so I’m doing the same thing with schluter heat and their foam shower pan, any reason you did the ditra first? I also dropped sub floor and am planning on doing pan first. That way I will know what I need to make up outside of shower pan. And would you use kerdi or kerdi board? I’m down to studs so not sure what to do yet. Thanks for the help
We just recessed the floor joist to where needed them.We set the ditra first this way we can screws the edge of the ditra to the shower tray since the tray was slightly lower.
Hope this helps.
Very neat and professional. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. “FLIP”
My pleasure!
Hello, great video,
Quick Question. I left some expansion gap (1/8) between the joist and plywood.
Should I fill the expansion gap with caulk, use tape or simply fill with thin-set when installing the tray?
Thought you might have some insight on this since I can't find an adequate answer.
thinset. next time. make the plywood snug.
looks good man ! do u flood test the same day as prep ? or wait for the mortar to cure !
Prabhjot singh thank you.No always wait minimum 24 hours for mortar to cure before flood testing
Which thinset did u use..I saw laticrete...which type you using under Kerdi and over Kerdi?
jamrock97sb hello and thank you for watching our video.
We used Bostik ditra Set to Set the Kerdi and the tile on top of Kerdi. Its the best un-modified thinset IMO
Question...I noticed you added membrane over the entire pan? Was it necessary, or did you just take extra precautions? I thought it would suffice to simply use the 5" kerdi band over the joint where the pan meets the ditra, no?
Kelly Njegovan good question.Yes that would suffice if the membrane was standard ditra and not ditra heat.
Any heating system needs to be waterproofed outside of the shower at least 3’.
That was ditra pan. nice bonded membrane we over lap 4-6 inches
waterproofing until a little late. Which was an awesome waterproofing. 👌clean. We water test up to 48hr. Clean. Beautiful work!
Awesome job very neat and professional. Looking forward to future videos. thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. “FLIP”
Thanks for watching!
Never use pre mixed tile mortar or mastic as most would call it
Where is it?!
Hey man how thick is the shower pan?
Pearly Faison hey, this is a older model tray.I believe it was 1 3/8”
I want to have a curbless shower installed in my house, but couldn't find a contractor in my area to do that. How do you made the shower area lower than the rest of the bathroom?
sorry to hear you could not find one. is the area to be curbless have a wood framing or is it concrete slab?
@@Dtileandremodeling - for the second floor, Wood subfloor.
What pre fab pan did you use for this?
Austin Moser the schluter shower tray
Dtileandremodeling that’s it? What model, do you know? I’m debating on getting the pre fab pan I just am wondering about the size with the sub floor being 3/4 ply
Austin Moser this was in late 2017.Tbe shower trays were thicker then.Size was I believe 36x72.
The new shower tray are about 1”.Only shower trays that are 3/4” are Wedi
did you use ditra duo or regular
duo
@@Dtileandremodeling any reason why?
I thought it will be colorful as the cover😿
always hear , use the flat side of trowel first to burn in thinset, but not sure why. just by using the regular notches and going over it many many times you are essentially doing the same exact thing. if you just layed out thinset and raked only once i understand, but we always comb out thinset and rake everywhere numerous times, so its well raked into sub straight. in this example the flat side burn in didnt do nothing honestly
Keying the substrate with the flat side of the trowel makes a big difference.
@@Dtileandremodeling the hi part of the notches are basically a flat trowel but in a shorter distance and if you are troweling the wood with thin set as many times as in the video, you are keying the thin set into the sub straight and the burn is is redundant. if you actually watch him spread after burn you can see every part of the wood is being burned by the notches and whatever burn in he did before doesn't matter because he he hard troweling. now if he were just to burn in with flat trowel , then pour out thin set and never hard pressed after, meaning he just kind of floated a thick layer of thin set without pressing hard , then yes, that burn in is important, but in this video its really not doing anything, they are just going thru the motion because evryone is watching. some people just see and hear things without actually thinking about it .
