I have every attachment and only find the drill lacking, It has no speed but it still gets the job done. No regrets buying this tool. I do a lot of mobile handyman work and this tool stays under my seat at all times. Im getting the cordless version soon.
I'm a contractor. Have been for over 20 years. The jobmax is...without the slightest doubt...THE best tool on the market for a lot of what I do...handyman stuff especially. Big jobs I'll often bring in my individual tools...but most stuff it's just in and out and the last thing I want is to be hauling a half dozen big bulky and heavy tools all over the place. With the jobmax I can fit everything in one bag (try doing that with Dewalt...or Makita...or Milwaukee). The only problem is that the idiots at Ridgid simply do not realize what a gem they have here. Nobody makes anything else like this...and I have tried and tried and tried to get them to see what a winner they have ...and to get them to add a few more attachments so it really covers all the bases. An angle grinder attachment, a small circular saw, and a decent spin saw (the one they've made works but it's not great). Other than that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tool to every jobber on the continent...and every DIY'er as well.
pro tip: On Ridgid's warranty registration website: If you upload the receipt and enter in info properly after a week if it's not in the system go onto their "Chat" part of the ridgid warranty and complain, they will warranty it in a matter of a minute or less if you have proper documentation.
If you call the 800 number they enter right away, seems like they have one guy doing the web registrations and more on the phone line. As long as you put info on Web on time, they will honor warranty.
I bought this and absolutely loved the swivel head that i used many times. Use it a lot and even loaned it out. The gearing on the interior stripped out. They apparently discontinued this model. I have been trying to find one in a pawn shop and have seen some people selling used ones on line. They now have model R28700 but the head doesn't swivel. I gave up and bought a Dewalt cordless and I wish I still had the Rigid. The repositioning of the head was outstanding for the situations i got into.
I just picked up a used cordless jobmax. Came with the oscillating head. I was excited about picking up the 90 degree drill and the ratchet but unfortunately they have been discontinued and ebay prices are ridiculously high.
I have like 3 heads for mine, i got the same corded model, it seems these are now discontinued or something. Part of me is like ok whatever something new will replace it. But the thing that sold me on this even though is a bit of a pain is the 4 position head, no other unit even the $200+ Fein unit would do this. I am sort of tempted while they are around to maybe get at least the battery one too so then i have two power units maybe for different uses, or use one as a backup, etc.
I understand. Mine has been indistructable and when it dies I will miss it so much. You should go out and buy what you can and keep this thing around for a while it was a winner for Rigid
just bought one ,thanks for the vid ,havent used it yet and will 7/17/20 had to buy a new since i trashed my craftsmen and yes i abused it so it needed to die and ready to see how the ridgid compares ,I dig the multi head feature and will be asking family to buy em all for my birthday ,it just may replace allt of my tools ,only thing about that is I dont like getting ridnof any of my tools anyway thanks again .
I put a paddle mixer on the end of my right angle attachment and used it to a bag of cement, Tool got so hot it was hard to handle but I still haven't killed the damn thing!
It is a licensed product from One World, any tool make by One World under their different brands are all compatible, plus comes with an adapter to use other makers accessories.
I’m new to tools and I just got this tool as a gift . Is the blade supposed to be off center when you install it? Mine seems to be off to the left a bit. Thanks
Its adjustable take off the blade and line up the wholes with the pins. You can place the blade 90, 45, degrees off center depending on the angle you need to cut. Pull the handle back leave it open and practice moving the blade from position to position matching the pins. Becareful not to place the blade on backwards.
I like the jobmax oscillating saw head I have better than the tool free head on yours. Mines about 8 years old and it uses an Allen wrench to change blades. But I've loved the tool since I've owned it and I have the lifetime service agreement signed up for it.
My oscillating head won’t hold bits tight enough and have a tiny bit of play which is enough that when I’m cutting in wood if I apply much pressure at all it basically does nothing because of the slop in the blade to head connection. I’ve very disappointed cause I like the tool but it’s nearly worthless if it can’t hold my blades tight!
If your using another brand you need to use an adapter that came with the tool, certain brands include the adapter with their multi-blade sets and and instruction sheet for use.
lol im watching this video because mine broke last night. My third time using it :( the metal bar in the head is what snapped not the plastic lever :( im very fond of Ridgid tools but im pretty bummed on this one. I've had it for about a month
I would take it apart just as I did here and use a vacuum. Some CRC electronics spray. Some old school guys use break cleaner. Make sure to replace the grease or oil. I don't expect anything but wood shavings in there. So a vacuum would be enough. Do you have to clean yours and what are you cleaning mud, dirt, or oil?
David, Thank you for your question. I think it's hard to say which is better. The corded model doesn't run out of power like a battery unit. They are both good units though. I believe the corded one has a larger motor but these days with brushless motors achieving high rpms and power the size cant tell you much. I feel from my experience that the corded one is stronger but the cord gets in the way sometimes. That's just my opinion from using it.
@@edtheoldtechguy I own 2 of the Ridgid 12v units and a 18v Ryobi. I am adding Ridgids 18v tools to my tools. I have 6 of the job max tool heads. Hammer, right angled drill etc.
Derrick, thanks for the comment, For me this tool has been the best tool. It's the only one with switchable heads I own. This was much more a review of this specific unit not which one was the best. That is a great subject for an up coming video. ;D
LOL I may have heard it from Client Graphics. Honestly I don't recall where I heard it but as soon as I noticed that was one of his tag lines I decided to stop using it. He gets the credit for it in my book.
Most tools use what is known as a universal motor, Runs on AC or DC. In this type motor the field windings are wired in series to the brushes. Most common type motor for tools, even vacuums, etc.
That thing is a POS. Been using it intermittently for just over a year, cutting nails in demo. It’s all rickety now, gonna give up the ghost soon enough
Thank you for your point of view. This has not been my experience but I don't just use the tool for demo. A few friends and I have been using it for years with great results but to your point, I thought this thing would not last. Perhaps our use case is the differentiator.

Its one of my favorite tools for my construction side work.
They discontinued it and I'm IRATE. TTI always has to kneecap Ridgid tools that compete with Milwaukee...

Great tool! I still have mine!
First time used by a helper will not release blade.
Can buy new slide how do you. Replace?
Another great video Ed. Nice review. "Stay in your lane" thing cracks me up
Thanks 👍

Man that sucks. It may be best to move on to a better platform this tool isn't without its issues, better to get something with a warranty.

Great review!!!
Pantera! Thanks man this is one of my favorite tools!
Thanks! I didn't know how to change the blade
Should have read the manual.

Yes this thing is still going for me! It has not broken yet and I beat it up!
Supposedly the tool heads are also compatible with the Ryobi version of this tool.

A bit surprised at the plastic drive shaft, or maybe that is just some protective shroud around a metal linkage or metal flex shaft?
Mine came with a spare, it shears instead of damaging motor or head. If you register the tool they will send more for free.
Good review.!!
Thanks, Pappy! That's a great compliment!

Man sounds cool wish I had that one too so I could an even more extended review!.

Wow sorry to hear that brother! This has not been my experience. This is sad to hear.
that's where the warranty/LSA comes into play.

Really wow! I have beat up mine and it has done well for what it is. It may be getting retired here soon
Hi. I haven't been able to assemble the trigger or switch back. Do you have any tips?
That happened to me but its been some time since I took it apart. I would have to make a video on it again.
Lasted maybe 40 blade replacements and finally broke off
The section I needed to watch you sped up so fast I couldn't figure out how to put the accessory devices on the body. Slow that section down.
Man I am sorry! It just clicks on if you really need a video on it tell me and I will make a 60 second short on that topic.
You ever clean it and if so how

My release handle crapped out on me after 2 years. It doesn't extend the pin.

I'm not an electrical engineer but hey let's open this up lol
That's how I roll brotha!
Sooooo what tool is better that come with changeable heads???

Exactly!
@11:51 “Hit the thumbs down twice”! 😂 Slick move!

👌
Thanks Kris!
I watched most of this video just for the music
THank you bro!
That tool has a D.C.motor.
That is right! Did I accidentally say something different?
Most tools use what is known as a universal motor, Runs on AC or DC. In this type motor the field windings are wired in series to the brushes. Most common type motor for tools, even vacuums, etc.
Mannn haha the voice is not the same where's the radio voice
