The discount code doesn't work for that particular tent.
Hi Andy, just a little update.
TerraNova are currently selling this at £490, unfortunately your code won't apply because its already discounted.
That said, your code is still good, because I bought the sc1 and its footprint last night, and i got your discount on the footprint. 21/6/2024.
Incidentally, i bought the footprint because this is the most expensive tent ive ever bought and I'll do ANYTHING to take care of it.😅
great review, as always Andy 😀👌👍
Lovely design
Great review Andy. I want to love the SC1, infact i do........the size though ( and im only 5ft 6 ) is pretty much unforgiveable. Could never spend 12-18 hours inside there in winter.
Keep uo the goid work!

Hey!!!! New to your channel!!! Have watched a couple of your reviews so it’s nice to see you out out! Those views look epic!!!
Such an amazing trip I’m jealous! And I dream of a cloud inversion…. One day I’ll get one!!! Thanks for sharing! 😍
Hi Karen, thanks for watching!
Does anyone else wish that Terra Nova didn't make that massive red pole? For stealth camping that's like a red rag to a bull for a farmer or private land owner! If like me you have to walk through some woodlands or say the wolds to get up to the Dales during the winter months this is quite a turn off. It's got a really low profile so would be a great woodland tent were it not for that flashy red pole! There's also times when I need to leave my tent and go collect water or provision, I don't want to be robbed, I want a solo 4 season tent that is robust, can handle a blizzard on the moors but also stealth and not to flashy looking. Is red a stronger colour or something? 😅
Have this tent and its a cracking tent . The only thing I would watch out for is getting smacked in the face when taking the poles out of the end bit when you are taking the tent down with cold hands up the side of a mountain 😂😂
loads and loads, wonderful, fantastic, cracken, excellent, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Must be that good of a tent. I must go out an buy one this minute. Cheerio!
I have the 2022 version of the southern cross 1 and I’m 6’1 and I’ve got a solid 20cm of headroom if my feet are flat against the wall. Personally I have no issues with it apart from its price tag and the fact that if I’ve got the poles in tightest loop then it means if I’m not being careful I get a face full of pole when it pings out
Great video. Was going to get one until I found out the price. Got a Hilleberg Soulo. Yes more expensive but you know that will survive anything and last for decades. I see this a 3+ season tent.
It’s no Soulo, but then again it’s over 600g lighter and far more compact!
Andy. For the 2023 they should have arched it up to 92-95cm interior. It would likely creep over the 4lb mark... but it is a 4 season tent!
Absolutely, 84cm in height is just too small.
I've used a HILLEBERG solo in Scotland in high winds big snow and it was "Terrible" pole snapping out and i end up in my freinds Terrain Nova that I was ripping him earlier for its 2.3kg weight.
When you doing a camp with the boys not seen them for a while 👀😁👍🏼
Check out the 3 Days in the Lakes. That was a few weeks ago 👍
Ive got the Terra Nova Comapct Laser 2 and I'm just not getting on with it. Have almost pressed the button for the Southern Cross 1 and just assumed it was 90-95cm high, I'm absolutely staggered to hear it is only 84cm! That's scuppered my new tent plan! 84cm is just ridiculous. Love your channel btw, Andy.
I don't understand it either, even the Helm 1 is 93cm!
How big difference in terms of toughness is it between this and the Terra Nova Laser Compact AS?
Weight seems to be similar, but I like that the Laser Compact AS would fit horisontally in my backpack.
For me, I think the Compact AS guys out better. To get the best out of it you’d need a good place to pitch and ground conditions for the pegs.
They need to make free standing 3 season tent to hopefully split the weight difference between laser compact and southern cross...happy middle ground so to say
I had one but didn’t like it great in wind but the inner sags and sleep mats block the vents I got the abisko lite one far better tent
That's the problem, the inner sags too much.
Aye, the temps have suddenly dropped getting close to 0°C at night now.
The summits are well into sub-zero temps this weekend 🥶
Why spend loads when you can get a vango hydra 200. Completely bombproof
Good shout
Yep , so true.
That's a very subjective thing. Why buy a big house when a small one will do? Why buy a nice car when a £1k runaround will do etc etc. In my experience you get what you pay for and if you spend £200 you'll get a decent tent but if you spend £500 you'll get a much better one.....lighter, stronger and longer lasting.
@@adge_ventures4915 you've not had a hydra I take it lol.
For 99% of the time you are correct but if you need the 1% the Terra Nova will do it. Most people don’t though
Hi there, looking for a 1-person 4 season solo tent. I'm doing mostly alpine hikes in the alps, so weight and strength are my two key factors that I look for. From your experience, do you have any recommendations? I am also leaning towards free standing, which is personally just a nice feature to have with a tent. This tent is pretty great especially the weight, but I am 6'2, so perhaps a bit small since you've mentioned it in your video.
I wouldn’t want to be in this tent if I was 6ft+. I’d take a look at the Lazer Compact AS for the type of backpacking you’re doing 👍
Do you prefer this or the new laser compact AS? I’ve recently had the AS and had it out 3 times in Snowdonia and loved it but wondered if I’d prefer this one 🥴
Lazer AS for me, but I love the Pioneer 2 as well.
@@BackpackingUK thanks, after checking the dimensions etc I agree. I’m 6ft so want the extra head room and it’s wider interior 👌
I'm the same height as him Dan, and the interior height is my only issue. How can they make the Lasers higher for pretty much the same purpose? If that's a good height for a tent that does that job, then it doesn't ever need to be less. It's why the Starlight is off my list as well.@@danieldring88
@@BackpackingUKdoesn't Lazer as have very low bathtub? it put me off straight away..
FIRST!!! Always great content Andy
Legend!
been looking at tents along with your msr video and this one. i want todo a long trip through wales and scotland, still cant decide if i want the elixir 1 or go all out and get the southern cross 1 its alot of money as i already own a tent but it wouldnt be good enough for high winds and snow. need someone to tell me to just get it and ill never regret it aha - FYI i use a 50:10 oex vallo rucksack so wondering if its pack size would be good to have on the outside of the bag
also the fact you dont need a ground sheet is amazing one less thing to pack and take up space which i could use for water instead. p.s love your videos think it would be greta to have a hike and few bevys aha
The SC1 is great but I must say it’s suited to shorter people. The TN Lazer Compact AS is a great backpacking tent and easy to set up. If you’re after a freestanding tent also look at the TN Pioneer Compact.
@@BackpackingUK will have a look at thoes, spending this much i like todo my research, im only 5ft8 and wiegh 60kg so i dont need much room aha - one thing it must have is a decent sized vestibule
Better than the AS compact Andy ?
The Laser Compact AS would probably be my choice right now - more space from what I’m seeing.
It better be a good well made tent.
Its ferking expensive.
Its £700 tho currently its on offer at a still expensive £490.
Fine. It might be ok if all you do is backpacking and camping.
Suggestion mate: you might want to split your intro. Ask people at the end to subscribe. Saying it at the beginning then watching the video, I’ll more likely forget to subscribe.
In hight winds with big Snow these tents are just not Tuff Enough
Shame about the interior head height. I’ll stick with the Helm 1
To be totally honest, I’m not sure I would upgrade if I had a Helm 1. I’d really be gram counting and going winter camping if I did.
@@BackpackingUKI would like to upgrade poles on helm 1,at least one pole, is there any?
Pioneer 2 loads better the SC is way too small
I have one, only used it 5 times. Sent it back as it needed new pullouts, repair was untidy with all loose threads left where they had picked the old stitching out. Went back out after the repair and it's now leaking where the inner clips to the outer fly.. Seam tape cracked in various locations. Baggy inner tent which flaps around all over. Really poor quality for a tent with this price tag. Hilleberg are light years ahead imho.
Useful and honest opinion. Should make most people think twice!!!
Yes not what you expect on a £700 tent lol. On the other hand I have the helm 1,helm 2 and the zephyros1 and never had any issues with them. Yes they are a little heavier and not the tents I use often these days but in comparison to what they cost against the southern cross the build quality and durability is better imho.
Is this a genuine comment? Our experience from TN and WC tents is nothing like what you’re saying.
@@BackpackingUK This most certainly is a genuine experience, do you wish to see some photographic evidence? I've pictures of the pull outs, the returned repair and the leak filmed only a few days ago. I'm debating whether or not to fix this myself with seam sealer or send the bloody thing back again. I've mainly had a good experience with their brand over the years but there is no way the price tag matches the quality they produce.
@@BackpackingUK But whilst were making inflammatory comments it's about as genuine as your terra nova tent reviews. 😂
Red tent pole is really irritating 😮
It’s not that bad 😂
There's no way this would stand up in any severe weather. Two main poles do not give it any structural integrity. Anything above 40 mph and you'd be bailing in that thing.
What do you use then?
@@BackpackingUK A BL Soulo of course. My life is worth more than a few quid.😀
I know a few people that have had this tent in extreme wind and stuck it ok . You can always double pole the middle section.
I own this tent and I've had it out in some pretty challenging weather so I can vouch for it in that respect.
Infact out of the few times I've been out in this tent the weather has been rough.
