    Great tent. I got mine with the old DAC poles and I snapped the blue one. They sent me a replacement pole for 2022 model free of charge explaining they don't use the DAC poles anymore. So I bought the red pole in the new style. I think the new poles are a little heavier but they do look sturdy.

    I have one, not let me down yet over last 2 years. Only use it for winter conditions. Paid £335 for it with a footprint. I do take extra v stakes as the ones it came with were the simple shepherds crook style so no good for double pegging but are ok for the low stress points

  • @lingerslongest
    @lingerslongest ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello. You could surely create a second vestibule by removing the bottom peg and letting the inner hang straight down.

    • @BackpackingUK

      Yes, I don't see why not, but you'll obviously lose out of internal space.

    It looks quite high and maybe not so stealthy. My 4 season is the Snugpak Scorpion 2. It’s fabulously warm, rock solid in any weather and stealthy like a ninja. Great for 1 person just not really high enough to kneel upright and 500g heavier than this one. Much cheaper though.

    Hi Andy, great review. I'm new to wild camping and have a question if I may. With a tent of this type, i'm guessing it can be pitched inner and outer together for ease of use. If you pack up in the rain or its still quite wet/damp, is it best to crawl inside and unclip the inner first then pack it away in a dry bag? Then put the wet outer in a bag on its own? Thank you

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it’s outer and inner together. If I’m away for one night I just pack it away altogether and dry it out when I get home. On multi-day trips it’s sometimes best to unclip the inner.

    Coming late to this. I'm struggling to choose between the Helm 2 and this one. I'm edging more towards the pioneer but just looking to see if you have any more advice? I'm going to use it for wild camping and summit camps not winter quite yet maybe next year 😅❄️ but I went wild camping on isle of skye last year and got caught in that horrible rain and since them I've been looking for tents with really good hydrostatic head 😅

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They’ve got brought out a compact (small pack size) version of the Pioneer 2 that’s £350 inc footprint. That’s a bargain! Unless you can get the Helm 2 much cheaper I’d go Pioneer 2.

    • @caitlinmcphee124
      @caitlinmcphee124 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BackpackingUK there's only a £50 difference and you don't get a footprint with the helm 2 I don't think. It might have been the compact one I was looking at because it was £350 too. Brilliant video btw I'm still new to wild camping especially so these kind of videos are teaching me a lot of what's out there 😊

    New to buying tents, from what I can tell outer poled pitch outer 1st designs come with a drawback of the inner being quite saggy which expect is flappy in the wind and ruins the space inside, although the likes of the msr hubba hubba looks poor in material quality the inner looks far more taught and spacious ? Are all pitch outer 1st tents this way ? Thanks for the review 🎉

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’re right to an extent and TN tents do tend to have slightly saggy interiors. They don’t move about too much because the fly is often very low to the ground. Often inner pitch first tents feel bigger inside because the inner is fixed to the tent pole and therefore is nice and taut. It’s a trade off really. Nothing worse than pitching an inner tent in the pouring rain though!

  • @alexdoherty1806
    @alexdoherty1806 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tent is good for 3 season but wouldnt trust it for anything more, i had an issue with mine. One of the tabs which holds the inner away from outer became unstitched so was left with flappy tent one night on fells which werent the best.

    Undoubtedly a pretty good tent for £400.
    I wouldn't trust it above 40mph winds, so perhaps it really is more of a 3 season tent.
    For 4 seasons, it needs to be a geodesic design with far less height (a mountain tent).
    On a budget, I'd actually choose the Berghaus Grampian 2 over the Terra Nova Pioneer. It's only £205 (currently) but weighs a hefty 4.24kg.
    Winter camping isn't a lightweight affair, which is exactly why I no longer do it.
