      @@smitheys You're quite welcome. I'm really hoping to within the next year. With the crazy prices on vehicles right and the inflation, I'm just trying to save enough to pay cash or putting a larger down payment on the table. The average price for a 5th gen around here under 170,000 miles is 25-30k! I know it's not alot, but I'm a slave to commoner's wages..☠

    Boss you nailed it. I love your military discipline to keep it organized. Everything has it's place and there's a place for everything. Thanks for so many practical ideas - from an old man to a young one - wish I had done at your age what you're doing, but never to late to start!

    Love this! I am collecting ideas to do a simple camping conversion on my 4Runner. want it to be functional and not over-the-top and too much obvious showy overland stuff. I’m not really trying to go stealth per se, but I want the rig to look basically stock at first glance. You’ve done a great job here with a functional DIY build that has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Well done, sir!

    • @smitheys
      @smitheys  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That’s excellent! I did so much research before I landed on this build. I love simplicity, especially not having a lot this makes it perfect.

    10:12 might I suggest getting some kind of shield for the open single burner to prevent grease/food splatter on your bed. Don’t think the flame might be big enough to catch your bed on fire. I’ve also seen stick style fire extinguishers, they are a little bit pricier than the traditional ones but I think they either don’t expire or have a longer life

    How do you handle heating when it’s super cold??

    • @smitheys
      @smitheys  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually I would travel somewhere it’s not that cold. Anything under 20F is when my sleeping isn’t enjoyable and the sleeping bag just doesn’t cut it. For times I can’t chase the warmer weather, like if I have to stay in one location for work, I stay at a hotel. Hotels are pretty affordable when it’s not peak season. Cold weather typically isn’t the problem living in a car/SUV/van/truck, it’s the heat… for me anyways.

      Yes, You are correct sir! I stored them in a family members garage because I didn’t need them. Someone could modify it and have the front half fold backwards, then fold the seats up. When it’s down have it rest on the seats, if you needed the seats

    What year was your 4 runner? And where are you storing your 2nd row seats?

    • @smitheys
      @smitheys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My old 4Runner was a 2016. My new 4Runner (well new to me) is a 2015. The storage of the seats was either in a storage locker or with a family member (depending on where I was located).

      I keep all my stuff in a storage locker, I don’t need it that often. When I do, I go get it. I turned in a bunch that I don’t use (helps to be friends with supply, haha).

    If you have pictures of before you took out the second and third row seats can you post them or make a video about it. Or if you have multiple pictures throughout the whole process can you post it? BecauseI want to take out my second and third row seats and transform it to make it more livable.

      Might’ve been the first, but thanks for watching! And yes, I do have a roof rack, but can’t seem to find the perfect storage box to go up there. I have two rifle boxes up there right now. Do you happen to have any advice/ideas on a nice low profile box? My rifle boxes hit when I go into a parking garage, that’s why I was thinking low profile, but if you have a better idea, PLEASE shoot it my way! I’d love to hear them.

      How I made the bed:
