This man promised high quality content to be delivered in a competent manner and that's precisely what he did. The que cards didn't even phase me! They only irritated me because I was waiting for more information to come out, haha! Thank you for doing a review not only about the subject I was interested in but it goes double for doing it in the fashion that you did. When a twenty-eight minute video feels like it was only on for five you know something went right.

I was having anemic cycling on my 6ARC, and what you mentioned about that the round was designed for a rifle lower with a rifle buffer and spring did the trick for me. Thank you!!!

Bill, I’d suggest looking at Starline for 6.5 Grendel brass, possibly giving them a call. It was hard for me to find 6 ARC brass so I converted 6.5 Grendel. It was easy, and of course I checked with a case gauge. Good video, hope you enjoy your 6 ARC

Starline Grendel brass works good. Shoulder bump was .009 in my shilen barrel and .030 worth of trimming. Couldn’t get the correct neck tension with Lapua brass without turning the necks. Not ready to go there yet.

Fantastic video. I absolutely agree with you on the Aero Precision products.
I just built a AR pistol with their M4E1 upper and lower as well as their free float hand guard. Fit and finish is flawless. I’m an absolute fan now.
I’m retired Army. One of my extra duties was a Unit armorer the the BN armorer. I have an old carry handle in 5.56. My next project is to build that into a 6mm ARC. Thanks for the video. Great information.

I picked up 6.5 Grendel brass and ran it through my RCBS small base die. Trimmed to length. With zero load devolvement it shoot 3 shot .5 inch groups with 5 shot opening up to just over an inch. Oh on a brand new build mind you. I’m pleased with results so far.

I learned on the A1 in '81 then the last two years of my 4 years as an infantry Marine, shot the A2. Building my 6mm ARC at the present, but had to keep to a little tighter spending cap. I went with Proof Research 18" SS 1:7.5 twist, Area 419 Hellbreaker match muzzle device and did some trading on a Sig BDX 3.5-10x42 with Bluetooth connected 1400 yrd range-finder. I can't wait to zero and shoot.

Well done sir! Good to know America has people like you, and pity the bad guy that gets in your way. My build underway is a 6 Predator (identical cartridge to the 6mm AR/6mm Grendel, except it uses the Type 1 bolt allowing for higher pressures), essentially the same ballistics as the ARC (ARC case is 0.030" shorter). Probably will scope it with one of my IOR scopes. Using converted 6.5 Grendel and 7.62x39 cases.

Excellent video, well explained with great detail. I built one about six months ago and have been extremely happy with my progress with the cartridge. I've been able to score some Lapua 6.5 Grendel brass and a few projectiles from Berger, Sierra and Hornady. But you're right, it hasn't been easy. I think I'm on several notification lists. I built mine from the ground up using a 20" X-Caliber heavy barrel and BCM heat fitted upper. Also went the same route with a rifle buffer, shots like a dream. I'm seeing sub .7" group with my preliminary load development and pretty confident I'll be able to get it down to sub .5". Also got a kick at of 7:02 in the video when the branch broke and fell and you didn't even flinch or miss a beat, LOL, great content

I'm shooting this cartridge in a bolt gun and getting outstanding results. So far I have only reached out to 800 yards but it's definitely a performer. I've had good luck with Berger 95 VLDs and 105 Barnes Match Burners. Recently got my hands on 108 Bergers to test next. And as someone already mentioned, 6.5 Grendel is a fairly straightforward conversion.

Very well done video......I went down this same road as you.....built a 18" AR with a Proof Research barrel, and a Ballistic Advantage/Aero Precision 24" AR in 6mm ARC as well. TRACT scopes are incredible, got the new 1-8 LPVO and a 4.5-30 Tract Toric on a bolt gun.....wish I would have known about TRACT sooner........The IOR Valdada's have SCHOTT glass as well. 6mm projectiles are getting more plentiful....get on some notification lists for them. Cheers :)

Outstanding video Sir, very informative. Having served in the Army over in Iraq, The M4 is not a long range weapon, for CQB is ok, with multiple hits. The issue is the ammo, with penetration lacking at distance. I'm impressed with the ballistics of the 6 mm Arc and still looking for parts. Thank you for your service!!!! Great video. i love the 6 ARC I just wish it was more widespread and that other manufacturers than Hornady made the ammo. As someone else mentioned in the comments you can make good brass out of 6.5 grendel brass. You probably already know this but if you load 6mm ARC for a bolt gun you can go over the max powder charge and get some more speed out of it. Awesome rifle that you built btw.

Good discussion. I've been researching and have been looking to get a 6 arc as well but there are still limited options and some pretty high prices. By the way, they did find a 5.56 that would reach out and kill, the Mk262 round. Made famous in the Mk12 rifle but used in others as well.

    • @GreenWolf70
      @GreenWolf70 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

For the Army, the 5.56mm NATO M855A1 is accurate and lethal out to 600m, per Army testing. It is optimized for the 14.5" barrel of the M4A1 and though not listed as such, it is armor piercing. It has the "new" 62 grain "green" (NOT green tip) projectile that has a hard metal piercing tip with a soft fragmenting base. When the M855A1 first deployed to Afghanistan the Taliban would typically stand up at around 400m daring the troops to hit them, knowing the lethality was almost nil at that range. Many of the Taliban saw a wound at that range almost as a mark of courage. After the first 3 weeks into its first deployment, the Taliban stop standing up. I know of numerous lethal hits in excess of 400 yards with 10" barreled "Truck Guns" as the SF tended to call them. The M855A1 changed the game for the 5.56mm NATO. Also, many people confuse the .223 SAMMI standards with the 5.56mm NATO standards, they are 2 different standards. .223 SAMMI max pressure is 52,000 PSI, while the 5.56mm NATO standard is roughly 62,000 PSI (Roughly because of the different method of testing pressure. The 6mm ARC has a SAMMI max pressure spec, but if adopted by NATO, it may have a different max pressure spec.

Seems to be easy and delightful, when you have money.
Not sure why he bothered to make another 1000yd gun since he already has the Custom Bolt 308 and 6.5C.
One sense is that once you decide to make 800+ the common working expectation, you are going heavy. You are going to a scope that is of significant mass and length, a specialized application. Everything he chose was without question top notch.
Recent actions on the 6.5G was a 16" barrel with a Linear Comp, making the full combustion tube almost 18", as we have learned that adding a silencer which is yet a chamber, can add 100fps to things like the .338LM. The scope chosen was on the bargain side, a PA ACSS 308 DMR for fast action and acquisition.
Disappointing was the weight of the whole thing, as I am spoiled with an AK in 308 with an ACOG on it, like was done by me to a Galil in 308 in the early 2000's. -- And this does get to the 6ARC.
So, in considering the 6ARC, the specifications went quite opposite of this Gentleman. Sure, one might reach out to 800 and 1000. But really, when you already have spent the money on other rigs, it is time to consider something different. Like a 12.5" barrel, as the 6ARC article featuring LANTAC products, showed steel ringing with the Military settled on 11.5" length barrel.
See, after Fallujah, it was not just the 556 Round that was being reconsidered. It was also the OAL of the weapon. Marines were commonly using 20" rifles. The New M5 has a 13" barrel.
?'s? - Military doctrine is changing. Significant lessons can be observed.
I understand the presenters thoughts and history, but if his son starts reading what I am saying here, he would better understand the thought of a 12.5" 6ARC Pistol, 25 rd ASC mags, Suppressed or Linear Comp, and anything from a Red Dot, to short 3x-6x Prism or 8x-10x LPVO Scope (Former being more ATFE Appropriate on a Pistol), the smaller the lighter. This is how the military is looking at it. This is the doctrine that they want the 6ARC to be delivering in, because it brings greater everything, Barrier Penetration and Range, everything the 556 in either 1x12 and 1x7 Twist never was, but did quite well for itself in Vietnam.
He has the AR, and it is a Lego gun now as opposed to our era. So it is time to evolve that .223 before it is swallowed by the safe, and move on to the direction it will be going in the US Military, shorter, lighter, more power and reach, probably outfitting Medics and Mortar Teams with the ARC while the Squads take the 6.8x51.
Its a Lego Gun. Snap off the upper and go 300 Blackout. Snap Snap place a 6.5G on change mags, Snap Snap back to 556. Snap Snap, on to 6.5ARC Change Mags. It's Batman's Gun. It's even Black. Respectfully, for his price, one might be able to do all four of the calibers mentioned with the needed Pistol and Rifle lowers, no optics.
Since the Galil, I have focused on AK. But now expanding into and exploring the AR. It is not a Family of Models. It is a Model of Family.

Nice rig. You can obtain the unobtainable if you look around. I recently bought 1000 cci 450 primers, 109 berger LRHT a couple hundred 108 ELD-M bullets and Leverevolution. I don't know if the 109 bergers are the best choice, at least for my chamber. The shortest jump I will be able to get is around .035 to .040" I think. I haven't loaded any yet. They still might work.

    • @rustynut1967

@@quentinjohannes8396 I've had the best results with Hornady 105gr BTHP .010" off the lands with 28.7gr of Leverevolution using Hornady brass. I just picked up some Lapua brass and dropped the charge down to 28.2gr and getting even better groups at just a little less speed 2670fps on a 65* day. This is out of a 22" barrel gas gun. I never got great groups from the 109s but only tried maybe 20 rounds with jumps from .040" to .080" if I remember correctly.

I like your build but I’d question the capability of that barrel. Do you know who made it and what blanks they used? My goal has always been 1 ragged hole with a gas gun. I have a AR 308 with a Kreiger 20” stainless in service profile and I can get .6 MOA consistently and if my favorite powder ever becomes available again I’m sure I could improve on that.
I have a Wilson Combat receiver set I’ll start with and I’d probably pay the price and go with another Kreiger or equivalent. I found the Magpul PRS stock too long for me and use a UBR on my precision builds.
I was introduced to the AR platform in Danang Vietnam back in 1968 and have been at it ever since.

What you did say about the 5.56 at 600 yards is not true but I guess you know that. 55gr will still be around 22lr energy and you wont be hit by that. Not to talk about 77gr. But of cource the 6mm ARC is a much better round. Some say its even better than the Grendel.

Barrel mfg'r can sell you a crap barrel with a munged gas port penetration into the rifling that will create a bullet scratcher, which will guarantee you do not make your target precision at 1000 yds. All hidden and out of sight particularly in a 20" bbl. I suggest you spend the $100 to get the latest China borescope that does 5mm bores, in HD color, stills with 3 diff. dia. right angle mirrors, and movie APP into your friendly computer. Then, check to see if barrel guys have hidden a disastrous intersection of gas port to rifling. You did not mention the rifling twist rate. That is critical for shooting long, high BC secant meplat bullets, like the Berger VLDs.

Hold on a second, just because you can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done. I can't do that either, but several of my PRS friends can. Look at the gear he is using, he is not talking about 300blk and 12.5 barrel. Look up the rifle builder and stop calling people idiots just because they're budgets and abilities exceed yours.
