Rochester driving the Maxwell... Those were the days!
And the reason that the gas station attendant sounds like a cross between Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig is because he's Mel Blanc, the famous voice of so many cartoon characters.

@rj zander Actually, Jack Benny treated everyone who worked on the show terrifically. He was one of the most well-loved people in the business. Eddie Anderson, who played Rochester, was given full rights to the character, and Ebony Magazine listed him as the 2nd richest African-American in the United States.

I just discovered benny I always just thought he's old and probably not that good I have missed out on years of watching him. I was a teenager of 15yrs.old when he passed away so I never gave him a chance by just watching him not even one time. I missed out so now I'm trying to catch up. Although the Rochester character may seem a bit stereotyped to modern viewers, he's actually generally smarter and more attached to reality than his boss, Benny, and this is made plain if you watch several episodes of the TV show or listen to the radio program. Rochester often makes jokes at Benny's expense or otherwise deflates his ego.
