  • Top 10 Countries with The Best Road Networks in The World
Hello Displorers, welcome to another informative video presented to you by Displore and thanks for watching. In this video, we shall be taking you around the world presenting to you the top 10 countries with the best road networks. Every nation aims to have a good road network to improve its economic, social and even political agenda. There are basic standards by which a country’s road quality are judged to pick out the best from the worst ones as well. The World Economic Forum's new Global Competitiveness Report allows us to compare the countries with the best quality of roads and the best road connectivity. The Global competitive report ranks the road quality of nations on 7. With this, the countries with marks above 5 and 6 have the best roads while those with the lowest marks have the worst road network. In making this decision, the quality and not the quantity and connectivity of a country’s roads are taken into consideration.
If you are new here, welcome, be sure to subscribe and turn on notifications so you don’t miss any of our videos.
According to the quality of roads in each country, here are the top countries with the best road networks in the world.
    10. Austria - Score - 5.9
Austria features an excellent network of transport system and transhipment hubs where intermodal terminals link roads, railways and waterways. On balance, Austria has 26 intermodal terminals which ensure the optimal combination of road, rail and waterway traffic. Excellent motorways and federal roads connect Austria with all of its neighbouring countries. All major border checkpoints both on highways and federal roads are open around the clock. The length of the road network in Austria is estimated at 200,000km and these roads are in top shape and hence show in its 5.9 marks on 7 when the Global Competitive report did its calculations and conclusion.
    9. UAE- Score - 5.9
The UAE has the best road network globally and one of the best quality of roads in the world. According to the Global Competitiveness Report issued by the World Economic Forum for the year 2019, the UAE occupies the seventh position in the index of road quality and 9th in 2020. The roads in the UAE are not only good but the additions to the road make driving on it very easy. Ministry of Interior Development replaced traditional lights with power-saving LED lamps on all federal roads spanning 710km. The LEDs are less pollutant to the environment with less carbon emission than traditional lights. They also have a longer life that hits 10 years and save 50% of consumed energy. The UAE continues to construct and maintain roads in accordance with international standards, using the best technology that fits the country's environmental conditions. The roads' projects aim to improve efficiency of traffic and connect parts of the country with a modern road network. The UAE has a road network, which connects different emirates with each other. In Abu Dhabi, the Darb website, uses the Geographical Information System and helps users to access fast, up-to-date and reliable information on driving directions, car travel maps, bus travel maps, bus terminals, points of interest, ferry routes and timings. Roads and Transport Authority launched Smart Drive, an on-board route planning and exploration app, which operates without mobile Internet connection to provide turn-by-turn voice and visual instruction, automatic re-routing and speed limit alerts while displaying points of interest along the drive.
    8. Oman. Scrore - 6
Due to the large-scale program of road construction carried out by the Ministry of Communications over the past 3 decades, there are now approximately 6,000km of paved roads and 24,000km of unpaved roads in Oman. In 1970 there were only 10km of paved roads and about 1,700km of unpaved road in the entire country. The number of licensed automobiles on the road increased from 261,627 in 1992 to 404,375 in 1998 and this increase in traffic also led to an increase in the number of road deaths from 218 in 1992 to 478 in 1998. Hence the government stepped in to provide better road network in the county. The total roads in Oman are 62,240km with 29,685km paved including 1943km of expressways and unpaved amounting to 30,545km according to 2012 statistics. Oman has two expressway grade highways, with the first 8 lane expressways opening up in 2017. Al Batinah Coastal Road is a highway known as Sultan Qaboos Street, and it is the trunk road running through the city thatinterchanges taking the form of roundabouts spaced approximately7km apart with unique features to enliven the streetscape. The roundabouts are named for driver navigation.

It is a stupid comparison. The best road network is in Vatican City - the fastest connections and the least number of road incidents.
Germany has good roads, it is a dense populated country with quite mild winters. German roads won't survive snow removal like in Scandinavian countries, there roads have to withstand the heavy snow removal equipment and driving with spikes. And that in parts that are sparsely populated. Sweden has space, so wide roads are not a problem, Norway has narrow fjords, where even one lane is expensive.

I'm happy that the Netherlands was placed third, I've been in France with the car and I can personally tell that the Dutch roads are better in the rain (and have to be replaced twice as often because of the different asphalt mixture).
But if you look at the total traffic mix the Netherlands will still be in the top 5 (not to shure on most asian countries but most of Japan is only accessable by car (small villages without even a but line))
So I think that would go something like: Singapore/Hongkong, Netherlands, Luxemburg, South Korea (not exact order)).

There is no comparison. Germany's autobahn is world class. Hong Kong is a city, not a country, and people travel by underground train, not on roads, because the roads are so congested. There is also the dangerous tail gating and driving style of HK's aggressive taxi drivers which would shock people from countries with more driving culture. Very few people in HK have cars. @EnjoyFirefighting 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

for being that well advanced I came across 2 issues in the Dutch road layout: lane and sign markings often aren't clear enough; Visited a place where people (both Dutch and foreigners) ended up in the seperated bus lane instead of the public lanes of the road and then had to jump the curb to get back onto their road; And another thing is: both on streets and at intersections many lanes aren't seperated by only lines but actually raised traffic islands ... nice for directing the flow of traffic, but an absolute nightmare for emergency services

Then I don't understand what you're complaining about, I wrote that in my experience the Netherlands are in 2nd place not 10th. You should be satisfied.
The streets of the Netherlands cannot take the first place because they are much more clogged than in France. All roads, not just highways.
Furthermore, France is much larger and has a motorway network 5 times larger, so it is only fair that it charges for motorways.
Just out of curiosity: my worst driving experience was three years ago in Germany, from Swangau to Aachen: in a nightmare of traffic and road construction sites. The cars were almost at a standstill crossing the road yards and were speeding by well over 200 km / hour where there were no yards.

I absolutely agree! I was shocked when I saw Switzerland being ranked higher than the Netherlands! That's so wrong because here cycling is dangerous and not viable because bike infrastructure is non existent or of poor quality (though progress is slowly being made), car traffic in many cities is pretty bad, and as a result buses get stuck in traffic, rendering them slow and useless. The Netherlands should be given the first place hands down, not Switzerland nor Singapore (which is somehow even worse than Switzerland, with no bike infrastructure at all, terrible traffic and no bus lanes...)

I don't think the ranking is very accurate. As an Austria, I can say that our country shouldn't be on this list. It takes an eternity to go from one place to another because they avoided so much the construction of bridges and tunnels. Everywhere are always maintenance works that last forever (because workers go home at 5 pm and don't work during the weekends). The railroad so far is also poorly made and it takes forever to go anywhere and it is extremely expensive. The only positive thing I can think of is the public transportation in the bigger cities.

I would want to submit that when a country's "wonderful" roads are toll roads that, in my opinion counts heavily against their value. Many of France's great roads (and apparently the Portuguese as well) are such toll roads. Personally, I always try to avoid toll roads like the plague. By contrast, the Netherlands essentially have no toll roads at all. All roads are completely free to drive on. Its the Dutch taxpayer who foots the bill, though.

Lots of problems here: Where the Ef is Germany??? By any measure, it's road network is far superior to most on this list.
Austria, mentions all border posts open 24/7--misleading, pandemic issues notwithstanding, all of the country's neighbors are in the Schengen zone, thus there are NO border posts.
UAE, yes, roads are good but driving standards are horrific
Oman, how does that really, really small country make this list?
France, Japan & Netherlands, largely accurate; Hong Kong, level of service is quite low because of congestion, otherwise roads are merely adequate, usually rough.
Indeed this video never covers operating level of service.
Singapore, really ???? Again, like Oman and HK, very small in area, a real apples and oranges problem when compared to most others. All told, this video has zero credibility, and that's before the fact that some of the videos aren't from the correct countries.

it really isn't, no surprise that it's no on the list. Yes it's impressive, yes there are unlimited speeds on great parts of the highway network, but there are also quite some design flaws in German road networks. Lack of maintenance, medium-term wanna-be solutions and deferred repairs instead of fixing a problem is the case in some locations; Structural problems as well, not to mention some missing basic safety features and odd road layouts in some locations
It's not about having the longest, fastest or tightest network, but the best quality, and by that standard also smaller countries can get onto such a list.

"Top 10 countries" and you included Hong Kong? When was it a country? And you'd also be wrong to say it has one of the "best road networks". HK is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, and the traffic barely moves most of the time. Travel at the wrong time (rush hour, before a horse race), you can be stuck for an hour inching forward no more than a kilometre. On the contrary, HK does have one of the best PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS in the world. Anyone who is from the city or lived there would vouch for the the efficiency and cleanliness of the MTR (at least before last year's riots). I have travelled all over the world and would not swap the MTR for any other system I've seen. But your video isn't about public transportation systems.

I wonder why Germany which has the most sophisticated road net work system was not even included.. Singapore is small is just a small country and it's road system is not actually at par with European Road system in terms of quality, total distance, technology and engineering marvel... Bias ranking... 😟

The road network in Singapore spoiled me to the point that I can no longer go back to my home country and not complain about the heavy traffic due to hideous road networks.

It's harder than you think especially in northern states where the freeze thaw cycle really takes a toll on roads. Also the national government basically does jack shit for roads, almost ALL your roads are maintained by your state or local government

04:29 "...according to 2012 statistcs..." It is 2020 now. Nice accurate information.....
05:01 another traffic jam, seen in almost every shot. Only not open roads are empty...
05:52 "....9452 kilometrs... " Keep telling us more numbers every 10 seconds in bad English!!!
06:32 "....Score 6..." Out of what? How did you come to that number???
06:55 Good score for roadworks. Bad score for who lives next to it. Not in 1 building but lots of them, mile after mile
08:37 Portugal roads are top. Yeep, but you MUST pay to drive on them. Only sandpaths are free
10:33 Netherlands is 3rd. Seen with a trafficjam for miles.... And please do not say the name again. It hurts my ears

I'm surprised the good ol USA didn't make the list; the interstate highway and US Hwy system is not bad and easy to navigate, and is pretty extensive. We are falling on our ass in so many ways but I thought at least your transportation network was something to be proud of LOL
