By far the best role in the entire show. I love how Mother steps from behind Father's shadow and becomes her own woman. I played Sarah for two years...and I always wished I could play Mother.
OMG!!! I've seen this a couple times before and COMPLETELY overlooked she uses some of here GORGEOUS yet hardly ever heard soprano near the end!!! THIS WOMAN IS FANTASTIC!!!
You can never mistake Julia, she looks and sounds so unique! I love that classic belter sound, it's almost like SJB except with a deeper sound. Love it.
This song requires the actress to have a beautiful & fragile head voice with a very powerful belt, and that's why Julia Murney beats Christiane Noll and is in the same ranks as Marin Mazzie :)
To all of those criticizing Christiane Noll: did you see her performance on Broadway? She was actually stunning. Really got to the heart of the character and was the emotional center of the entire show. Julia is great here, though. It's useless to compare high-quality performances like these. Just enjoy them for their differences!
have you ever noticed that no matter what role she is playing, even if it is Elphaba, the wigs always look so natural on her? Oh, and she did a great singing job too.
Sorry, but she seriously destroyed Christiane! Don't get me wrong, I love Christiane, but Julia just captured Mother's entire journey in one single moment. Just breathtaking!
She's wonderful. I think you'd have to blame the hair and costume people involved for your feelings on the way she looks. Both the wig and the dress look like they were made for someone else.
I agree that she's great, but doesn't really fit this role for me. She doesn't sound "motherly" enough to do it for me. She sounds to Wild Party still.
I have literally never gotten over how good this is.
Same. This is still my favorite rendition.

This is the best I've heard her sound in my opinion. I LOVE HER.

Marin Mazzie. Everyone else is a runner-up.
I love the thickness of her voice and vibrato..I enjoyed this.. I like her as ELPHABA too!!
there's a reason why 'win' is part of the URL for this video.
Glorious. Always💐
For a while, I forgot why I completely adored and loved this woman.
This video reminded me.
Absolutely flawless!
North Carolina Theatre. I was there as well!
Oh. My. God.
She is beyond incredible.

Oh, and she did a great singing job too.
I take that back. Every single one of her performances is better than all the others.
What an amazing voice! A truly beautiful song!
I am partial to Marin Mazzie but my god did Ms.Murney do a bang up job here !!!!!
I love this song, because it's so powerful and moving.......and beautifully sung!
Why why why doesn't she have an album of broadway music? I would LOVE to have her singing this on my ipod!
Beautiful.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Though I think Mazzie plays the role with more conviction, Murney definitely does this song justice.
I just saw your comment and put it up. I don't know who had it up origionally, but I managed to get ahold of it and uploaded it.
Christiane Noll was amazing as Mother on Broadway. She gave an extremely dynamic and believable performance. Julia Murney is great in this though!
I can't find the video of her singing People anymore!!! Where did it go!!!
wow. interesting look of joy at the very, very end when she cuts off. odd. AMAZING SHE IS.
That's a kudos to the wig designer ;)
What's with her always playing mothers? Haha. This and N2N! She really is amazing tho!!!!
Goodness...3:19...so beautiful.
Damn. I freaking love Julia.
She has never sounded better. And that's saying something.
Can't say the wig does much for her, but damn is she an incredible performer
Where was this performed? Like Broadway or Off?
I think this was at North Carolina Theatre.
@fosseboi I COMPLETELY agree!!! There is no comparison!
Was this on Broadway?
I think this was at North Carolina Theatre.
she looks like lisa brescia here.
great singing.
Sooooo draggy. God, I love her!

YES! I SAW THIS!
Where was it at?

*Her.
I agree 100%! There has to be a strong woman in the apparently fragile Mother.....but Christianne seems too fragile.
this was great!!! just beautiful. She just not right for the elphaba.. her voice is more suited for this type of musical.
Pretty good. I wish the dipthongs weren't there, but she has a nice voice.
Okay don't murder me asking this question. Because I'm obviously ignorant to the actually thought of Julia Murney. Umm.. is this a man?
Marin was out when I saw the bway production. Her understudy sucked big time.
julia is amazing but that wig is not haha
I'm sorry, but this is way superior to Christiane Noll.
@tfaceskater No one cares.
