I work at Netflix and have attended seminars on pitching to them. I think he’s overthinking it. They’re really open and nice.

Well partner with me and let's get some stuff produced! :)

      Overthinking is not the point.
Going through the interview filters can be annoying: some meets can be pointless when there is a public secret in the room and no one addresses it or the public unspoken item is deliberately avoided.
These sit downs need to go toward production, otherwise what is the point of the meet?
Unless the discussion heads toward working together, people on the face to face need to face what is/is not going to happen professionally, quickly, and courteously.
      Why is that hard?
Because a lot of young people don't know how and/or don't want to face the seriousness of life of those meeting moments.
It's cowardly and eventually, creativity and professional growth will stymie them ... in other words, more life goes on, with or without their participation ... they get "left behind" or fired.
Then there are those interviewers who like the power part of life ... more waste because it is unnecessary, does not address the meeting's purpose, and is offensive and unprofessional.
Some meets I will end, courtesly bow out, in order avoid and not associate with those folks who are not going to be successful or will poison a story with their brand of personality: overbearing, phony, unprofessional, in need of a shower ...
      Keep Writing.

How would I pitch to netflix? What is the procedure?

I wish I had the problem of being pigeon-holed, cause that would mean I was actually working, even if it were for the same type of film.

Do you think having too many credits can hurt you in the film industry?

  • @photonotavailable7936

Case in point: John Carpenter made Starman (1984) starring Jeff Bridges who was nominated for an Academy Award.

interesting conversation . I think maybe having too many credits of the same genre and low level of movie could hurt you after a while Because that becomes your body of work .
But the optimist in me wants to believe it's about the project you pitch even big filmmakers often have to wait years to really get their projects made it Kind Of makes sense when so much money is being spent . it's an interesting discussion

I noticed a lot of independent movie maker types like doing horror...I don't watch them, so I've never consider trying to write them...

What I wish is that this dude would actually try. Actually make a short, actually make content with the resources you have and start pitching it around. You've been in the business, tell people you've changed, you're making this now. You don't even try you just say you probably can't get in vs someone with a short. Make a damn short then, jesus.

Yeah that's what I always hear. Don't ask for permission to make a movie, just go make a movie and then bam, you have a credit and an in.

Brisdad53 I disagree. Knowledge of what doesn’t work would have saved Edison 1000 attempts at making the lightbulb.
Knowing what to do, and knowing what not to do, both lead to increased odds of success.
      But hey, you do you.
