      Unfortunately, the Main railway station in Belgrade no longer exists. Passenger rail traffic is simply removed from the city, which is very sad. It's a totally abnormal situation at Serbian Railways.
      Greetings to you from Belgrade.

    I recall going to my local station in 1963 only to learn that the previous day it had closed. Again, the work of Beeching. A sad day for all. The buildings that should have qualified as a heritage site were torn down and the history of the station died on that day. Corby, Northamptonshire, went the same as many others. Thankfully we have many photographs and film clips of a bygone era. Thanks for this video, Mr. Dulevoz. Its a reminder of what was a thriving business in your country. I am in Croatia where there are no railway services of significance.

    The closure of the old main train station in Belgrade is a transport policy disaster. Shame on the greedy, corrupt politicians!
    The "new" station Beograd Centar is not a real central station. There is no infrastructure, no escalators, no elevators, no information, no shops, just nothing! International travelers haul their bags over stairs and dirt! You arrive at a completely boring place and there is only one bus line to the center every 30 minutes. It is a shame for Belgrade.

      And in Brazil (hard to believe) it's much, much worse. No long-distance passenger trains at all. Imagine New Street closing, you get the idea. Campinas has a similar population to B'ham and not a single passenger train. Usual culprits - politicians thinking only about money.

Very sad to see this station being closed after all these years, its a end of a era... a stupid decision too since it was located straight in the centre and had all the facilities and stuff like that, compared to Prokop which isnt fully finished yet, all done in a hurry... well i guess money matters more than good transportation.

      When we see the main railway station in a country's capitol city (Belgrade) shuttered and abandoned, it is indisputable proof that the government in charge no longer considers its passenger railways to be of any importance. Abandoning the Belgrade Main Railway Station is only the first step (of many) that will ultimately result in the closure of the entire passenger railway network in Serbia. (Cargo haulage may continue for some time.)

    • @CFRTrainSpotter
      @CFRTrainSpotter 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well yeah, railways have seen a decline since the 1980s mostly if you ask me, so much careless-ness from national railway companies just because air travel has more success. it needs competition, like cheaper prices or something! at this rate railways will cease to exist!

    • @dulevoz
      @dulevoz  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you. It is really sad to see how the government treats transport policy in this country. It destroys the passenger traffic on the railways of Serbia and there is no turning back. Station Belgrade Center (Prokop) will certainly not have all of its facilities until 2021. Not started construction of any additional content, yet.

    6 years later, I am unhappy to report that the new station is still highly inaccessible and unfinished. What's even worse, since covid all international lines (except the seasonal Bar train) have been shut down and there are no plans for restoration in the coming years. Apparently they're waiting until they are converted into high speed railway.

A tu kafanu ce nazvati narodnim muzejem. Nekadasnji Yugosloveni su bili ugledni naucnici, diplomate,umetnici ,arhitekte.... A sadasnji seljacine i egoisticne persone.

    Sad really.
    Back in april when I travelled to Serbia my train from Nis arrived on the Prokop station, I did expect it to be bad, but it was really worse than what I was thinking. Saying its unfinished is an understatement. The poor thing looked like you've carpet bombed it... I did pass a few times around the old station when I was in BG and to me it just seems like an idiotic decision to move the station from the centre to bumfuck nowhere in Prokop. The old one if its a bit renovated would look 10 times better than Prokop, not even to mention as I said that the new one is nowhere while the old is basically 10mins from the centre and Kalemegdan.

  • @DanTheCaptain
    @DanTheCaptain 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It is a real shame that the Serbian government wants to close such a historical and key train station. The should be renovated instead of closed. It is kinda of like when they closed Józsefváros in Budapest, but at least Budapest still had three major train stations in the center of the city. The new station isn't even finished and is in an inconvienient location. It will even make travelling in and out of Belgrade by train harder. Alas it is an end of an era.

    This is so sad. The hungarian government and the city government of Budapest has tried to do the same with the Déli Pályaudvar, and build a sport centre and a park instead. (There is already an enormous park nearby, called Vérmező.) They have told us that Kelenföld would be just as good as an end station which is an obvious a lie. (But how would they know? They only travel with their own luxury cars. "Only the poor use the public transportation.") On the other hand Kelenföld has no free capacity to be an end station. A few years earlier they even decreased its capacity by removing some tracks.
    Fortunately due to the negative judgement of the people and the press, they have they have abandoned this catastrophic plan, and made some open conferences with real experts. So now we have some acceptable plans with the train station. Only the unused area will be reused, and they might unite the station with a plaza. I hope they don't change their mind.
    I hope the city government of Belgrade will come to its senses as well before it's too late.

      That happened in Montevideo, Uruguay also. The new station is 500 m to the North and trains lost more than 100.000 passengers a year. The old station is abandoned because the plan was doomed from the start, and involved in a long legal fight since 2003.

      I hope that Budapest city authorities will not close the Deli railway station. Your luck is that you have three main stations and all three nearly the city center. There was one Main station in Belgrade, and now we do not have any main station close to the city center.

    Why did they discard such a beatiful and monumental train station? Look at Budapest Keleti, Paris Gare du Nord, Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, NY Grand Central or Amsterdam Centraal, these are historic rail terminals which are seen as a city and railway heritage and always being modernized. No one thinks of discarding them.

Even our freight system in Tucson (Union Pacific) has a siding where the locomotives are scrubbed and cleaned all of the time.

    It appears to me that the entire passenger railway system In Serbia is being prepared for closure. The fact that the main railway station in Belgrade has been abandoned, combined with the very obvious neglect of the railway track and rolling stock (overgrown with weeds, the train cars dirty and graffiti-covered), it is very obvious to me that, like in the United States of America, where passenger trains are also in the process of being discontinued, it will not only be the capitol, Belgrade, but everywhere else in Serbia, that has no more trains. If what I think is happening is true, there soon will be no trains calling at the new and useless station at Prokop! Is this progress? No!

    Hvala na snimcima. Imam pitanje. Jel U ovo nove modenizovane lokomotive ili su samo prefarbane. Kako napreduju radovi na prugi st. Pazova- novi sad? I kada možemo da očekujemo reportažu sa barske pruge od užica do prijepolja? Znam da vozovi idu sporo ali je krajolik leti prelep. Hvala još jednom

    • @miroslavradovanovic676
      @miroslavradovanovic676 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      lokomotive su prefarbane. Kad pogledate neke druge video klipova zelenice drugih zemalja pogotovo Nemacke vidite da imaju stare parnjace koje vuku vagone po gradu i to je za njih turisticka atrakcija, a kod nas sve ide u staro gvozdje

    • @dulevoz
      @dulevoz  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nema na čemu. Ove sveže prefarbane lokomotive su pre nekoliko meseci imale reviziju (veliki servis), tako da su u malo boljem stanju od ostalih lokomotiva iste serije, ali izuzev pojedinih detalja nisu modernizovane. Radovi od Stare Pazove do Novog Sada napreduju veoma polako, ali se za sada radi bez zastoja. Od Užica do Prijepolja kada budem snimio, a ne želim da obećavam kada će to da bude.

    "The completely wrong traffic policy of the country" - looking at google maps, satellite view - wasn't the demise of this station caused by it taking up "precious" space in the most premium real estate area? Régóta figyelem videóid, munkásságod és köszönet az eddigi videóidért! Rendkívül jók, informatívak, valószínűleg a rendszereink se sokban különböznek (itt EVM, U=25kV, 16.7 Hz)
    Kérdésem lenne: mi célt szolgál a pl 11.46-tól látható rácsos vagon? Arra nem tudtam rájönni.
    Mikor tudsz Indija és Beograd között friss videót feltölteni? Előre is köszönet! Meg Topcider érdekel: az is megszűnt nemrég, de nem tudom: Topcider teretna (teheráru/marshalling yard) tovább üzemel?
    I have been paying attention to your videos, your work and thanks for your videos so far! Extremely good, informative, probably our systems do not differ much (here EVM, U = 25kV, 16.7 Hz)
    My question would be: what is the purpose of the lattice wagon seen from 11.43, for example? I couldn't figure it out.
    When can you upload a fresh video between India and Beograd? Thanks in advance! I am interested in Topcider: it has also been discontinued recently, but I do not know: Topcider teretna (freight / marshalling yards) will continue to operate?

    Very good video...I was there several times in the 80's and 90's when it was Yugoslavia's JZ so I was intrigued by a few things from seeing this video:
    1) It appears they let the station (platforms & tracks) deteriorate considerably since I was there last
    2) Trains all appear to be "short" (3-5 cars) InterCities without food service cars, not the case on my visits
    3) Graffiti was annoyingly rampant on almost all pieces of rolling stock, not the case in earlier years
    4) Judging by the abundance of fans with cameras around the place they must have changed their "attitudes" as earlier years there was nothing but hostility by the crews to anyone with a camera and that was even towards other railroaders too.
    Sad to see the original station and my memories of it go

    Well, good reasons as the city hall didn't spend a dime on renovating/upgrade the main station so rusty weeds all over the station never kept clean and a lot of metal junks/scraps to recycle and get money back from it. I wish there were somehow a live cam to see it all gone and redevelopment as I know the st.reigs, developers, not personally but they have one hotel/residents (what was trump tower) here in the heart of Toronto.
    The only thing I feel so sorry is about the staff/employees from that main station. hope they all have continuous jobs.

    • @carick235
      @carick235 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will be Historical museum, but even for that whole building needs to be renovated and adapted, they need minimum 10 million euros. Also Prokop will not be finished at least in the next 10 years, they are currently building last parts of concrete roof for the last two unfinished tracks (out of total 10, 8 in use currently). Also there are some talks from city officials about metro being built from 2020, which would put in use already built metro tunnels under Prokop station, but that is in the best case in 8-10 years. As for Prokop main building on current concrete roof, they are looking for private investors who would have interest to build commercial stuff and incorporate railway station in it, but since the government in past few years invested over 3 billion dollars in railway infrastructure i think they can find 50-100 million for the station.
