    Definitely yes on palm shortening! I used to buy 40lb buckets of palm oil and had to melt the entire bucket just to use a small amount. I had no means to melt that much oil so I had to let the bucket sit in a tub of hot water for hours. Huge waste of time. Hopefully someday I can afford the drums with heat strips so I don't have to waste time melting oils. I use palm shortening now to save my sanity lol

      What is the difference between palm shortening and white palm oil in soap making?

    • @CabbagePatchSoap
      @CabbagePatchSoap 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Skylightatdusk When calculating your recipe there's no difference. The benefit is you don't have to melt down your entire batch of palm oil to measure it. Palm shortening can be measured without melting the oil first.

    It's a pretty bar! Really makes the impression in the bar stand out. Personally I love how it hardens my bars. I appreciate a well balanced bar too. I only have two bars I make that are less than 6 oils my bastille soap and an Aleppo soap, I make those by request from the pharmacy I supply. Great video talking and making a single oil soap. I really like that palm comes in a no stir option, I go bonkers when the supplier is out, I try to stay far ahead of that problem. Especially this last year. The supply chains a mess, but that's a diffrent story.
    Thanks once again for entertaining us!

    Thank you so much. You mentioned this is not a good bar to use on overly oily skin. What about acne prone skin? Or would you recommend 100% coconut oil soap for acne prone skin. My face has broken out severely this past almost year. My health and a new medication are just destroying my face. Being in my 50's i should not look like i am in puberty. I would appreciate any advice and if you have a recipe day coming up if you have a magical concoction i would be so happy. Enough with my rambling. Thank again. Have an awesome weekend. 💕

      This actually works really well on acne, and the skin loving benefits are great for skin over 40. I would realistically lean toward a 50/50 blend of coconut and palm, though.

    Funny how the TH-cam algorithms work. I am getting ready to make a one pound 100% palm oil soap for a customer. This is due to allergies to olive, rice, and coconut oils. I have made 100% olive and I have made 100% coconut, but never 100% palm. I don't even use palm in my regular recipe (I'm a tallow girl) but I do what the customer wants, within reason. Sounds like this is going to be a nice, gentle soap for my customer.

    So, I was watching an experienced soaper from the UK and she measured out solid palm oil for her recipe so I asked if it was no-stir or if she didn't believe palm had to be melted and stirred each time. She said she'd never heard of that and if it was necessary you'd have to do that with all solid oils. Got me thinking, why do you only have to do that with palm oil? Thanks

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stearic can separate from the palm when cool and sink to the bottom. It’s a unique solid oil because of that. Technically if you don’t melt your oils to recombine the stearic into the rest of the fatty acids, nothing terrible will happen to the soap, and the final batches will be heavy on stearic acid (which still isn’t bad). For consistency from batch to batch, it’s recommended to melt and stir before measuring.

    So I probably make the most controversial soap ever because I use palm & tallow plus 3 other oils in my new favorite recipe. Have been loving this recipe....BUT...I had NO idea about the stirring of the palm each time! There's no way I could have stirred mine today! It is hard-ish in the bucket, and I have a BIG bucket to work through. Will it all be o.k. ? Does the fact that it hardens up on me mean that I have the shortening version? I get mine from Essential Depot .
    How much longer are you with the jaw tie? I hope you're getting closer to losing it! I know it must be an aggravation to put it mildly.

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh, it’s aggravating for sure. 😂 Honestly, there have been many times I’ve been lazy and have not fully melted my palm and everything turned out fine. Just trying to give good info for the newbies out there.

      @@MrsSoapAndClay , WHEW! I'm sorta a newbie soaper....almost a year now. I was so freaking out hearing you say I should melt and stir my Palm. I have made about 60 soaps with my Palm and not stirred, and when you said that I was in panic mode! None of these soaps have finished their cure time yet. So happy to hear a pros cheats on the stir sometimes! 😂 So now I'm wondering how on earth I can melt down a big bucket to stir it each time ?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah melting down the whole bucket is tough! I have those bucket warmer things to do most of the heavy lifting, but that requires me to remember to plug them in.
