So if the recipe is calculated at a 0% superfat and you add citric acid, the superfat will increase slightly. If you omit the citric acid, it remains a 0% superfat, so not lye heavy but no wiggle room for measuring errors.
I see what you mean. So if 275g of lye and 36g of citric acid, then 22g of lye are consumed, taking it to 253g of lye still active, right? I’m getting a 3% superfat using the weighted amounts of oils and butters.
@@nannyssillysoapco So without citric acid, the lye amount would have been 245.59 grams. With 36 grams citric acid ( 2 %) that should bring lye amount to 268.05 grams. She used 275 grams. Adding the citric acid after the lye concerned me a bit. It should always be dissolved in water first.

Gorgeous soap!
How can i make my melt and pour soap lather more
Worth pointing out this soap as calculated is zero % SF; if the citric is omitted it would be lye heavy. Or am I doing my sums wrong?

@@MrsSoapAndClay By my calculations, it's calculated at lye heavy, it's the citric that takes it to zero.
