I had a graphite 466MHz iBook that my mother used and a key lime 466MHz iBook that was running Tiger with 512MB RAM a 500GB HD, and a dual layer slot loading DVD burner. I loved that computer. It was really just a toy but it was the best clamshell I'd ever seen. I ended up selling both of them and getting enough money to buy my mom a new MacBook Core2Duo in 2007. It was an awesome upgrade but I still miss the look and feel of those old iBooks.
Coolguy1234567890 No, there are a few people like us out there (maybe a lot). I would have one of every old Macintosh made if I had the room and the extra cash lying around.
***** You are correct. I was confusing that with my old MacBook's drive. Seems like I had a 250 GB drive in that old iBook? Not positive of that either. However, I am sure of the other upgrades. Thanks
Not only is it possible, you just described the way to make it work. You divide the drive into multiple partitions and voila You've increased the storage capacity beyond the 128GB max..

The 8-Bit Guy I did this on my clamshell and I erased the drive and went back to install it said You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume. Now if I take the OS X out of the disk drive and restart the computer it’s just a folder and a question mark... what do I need to do? Buy the os 9 and install it again or get a whole new disk.
This is a handy video, and I’ve been watching your channel for years! Unfortunately my clamshell running OS 9 has a failed optical drive so I’ve got no clue how to upgrade it to any version of OS X. (It doesn’t have a FireWire port) perhaps you should make a video on how to install is x on a Mac with a failed optical drive? Or even one without a FireWire port also? Keep it up!

Hi, I have an imac (2002 model 700mhz) and trying to install OSX 10.1.5. When I get to the volumes page, it only displays the cd rom, and does not show the hard drive. It seems like it's not available. Any suggestions...? I saw your other videos from about 2 years ago...I found a Powerbook Titanium 500mhz and bought it for 20, and sold it again for 140. It was great during the short time I owned it, but not fast enough for the kids, and I have my old stuff already.Regards. MH.
To bad you can not do anything with Mac OS X Panther in these days :/ I did a clean install on my old 17" Power Book G4 and it is so much snappier and much lighter on the cpu than Leopard. But even with Leopard you can only do very basic stuff and very slow, so installing anything else than leopard makes this machine unusable which is a shame !.
It's pronounced "OS Ten". Was the successor to Mac OS 9, but stylized as the roman numeral X because of its NeXTSTEP origin. You don't have to take my word for it, look up the Apple keynotes.
I'm looking for the iso file for my PowerBook G3 i think 10.3.9 would be best I would Run Tiger but painfully slow i think 10.3.9 is more stable on a G3
My clamshell iBook running OS 9.1 won't boot from my Panther disk holding the C key when booting. When trying the option key, both the HD and Install disk show up, but nothing works when selecting the install disk 1 Panther. The boot option reverts to Macintosh HD. Can you help? Otherwise the computer boots normally. Given to me with previous owner's account and forgotten password. Many thanks.
@The 8- Bit Guy, im upgrading my imac flower power to OS X 10.5 Leopard, any idea where can i download the installation files? and can I make it a boothable USB? Thank you!
okay, i have one of these just sitting here with the default operating system ( i think), im looking to upgrade it so i can use it for making apps or itunes or even games, is it possible i can upgrade it to preform like a new ( or better) one?
No, I booted from the Mac OS X leopard (10.5.6) disk I got from the eBay selller which I got my PowerBook from. could that be the problem because it was already installed on a PowerBook?, then I put my PowerMac into target disk mode. It lets me select the destination of the powermac on my PowerBook but it keeps saying install failed. Is it because it is a dual 450mhz?
but these old iBooks have very little storage space, like 30-60GB or something (maybe 10GB not sure) so I would say it was pretty benoficial for him to untick those options.

I have a question if you don't mind. Is USB memory stick 2.0 compatible with the ibook g3 clamshell. I just bought an indigo clamshell from ebay and its wonderful, but my usb stick (with microsoft office and age of empires 2 on it) isn't recognized by the ibook :/ the clamshell is currently running on panther os
If the usb memory stick is formatted with a different file system, that may be the problem. You'd be better of formating it as FAT32 (if you want to share files on any OS) or HFS+ (if you want to use that for just Macs). Another thing to try is open up Disk Utility. See if the USB stick shows up there. If it does, you can run a disk repair (built-in) to fix the problem. If the problem is fixed, the USB stick should show up again on the Desktop the next time you plug it in.

No, it's built around a PowerPC CPU. The first Apple laptop that you could dual-boot Windows from was the polycarbonate Macbook (which is when Apple transitioned to Intel CPUs).
It's possible using emulation software such as Virtual PC, but obviously the emulation takes a toll on performance (emulated Windows 2000 on my Power Mac G4 500 MHz runs at about the speed of a '97 Pentium).
