    Thank for creating this video. I am having the same issue. I will look at a lawyer to handle this. For ~50k truck to be this dangerous is a class action lawsuit. This is not acceptable.

      hope you are serious on this, I wish Jeep can solve this problem. I bought my jeep gladiator overland for over 58k. and just got the death wobble 3 times on Highway after driving it for a whole day. It is 11pm at the night, I am far away from home. So dangerous! I am thinking to sell it now, mileage is just over 20k.

    My 2020 Gladiator with stock wheels is unsafe to drive. Exactly what Mr. Forsberg is so excellently articulating, this is what is happening to us. It takes a specific highway condition, generally at higher speeds (60-85) and the perfect wave in the road at the perfect curve, and all-a-sudden the thing starts vibrating violently. I have been in disbelief. It has been through 3 separate repairs, first one of them remitted by my insurer. Today brought home from San Diego dealer, and it drives tight again. But I am almost certain the problem will recur, as it has the past two times.

    I can’t imagine it’s the motor mount design. DW is well known and plenty has been written about checking this, ie worn or loose tracbar, rod ends ball joints. If yours is a rubicon or Mojave, it would benefit from the mopar longer control arms. It helps the Jeep drive and track straight without having to constantly make steering inputs. There’s plenty in the Jeep forums discussing DW. Dealers aren’t usually very good at diagnosing the cause of the DW. Only throwing a new stabilizer at it to try and fix it.
    Pretty crappy to have this on a new Jeep. Hope you get it figured out soon. GL!

    I can promise you it’s not just the gladiator. I have a Diesel 21 wrangler. And from all the people we’ve talked to and the Fb jeep groups, death wobble is not new to Jeep. Jeep and the dealerships definitely act like it’s the first time they’ve heard of it. We had to drive our wrangler back to the dealership we got it from with this issue, which was a 12 round trip, because the 2 local dealerships just throw up their hands like they’ve never heard of anything like this before. They replaced the steering stabilizer when we drove it the 12 hour trip back to the purchasing dealer. While we were waiting in line at service that day, another man had brought in his wife’s jeep for the EIGHTH time for this issue. Her jeep was a 2018.
    Now with 35k miles, my one tire edge is worn out and the start button has been giving me issues. Took it back to jeep last week. The response was to replace the tires before they could do anything at all. The wear indicators and tread are still present on all 4. But clearly, even to someone with no mechanical background myself, something is still wrong. The Bridgestone tires that are in it have a mileage of 60k according to the manufacturer.
    The damage the death wobble does is a domino effect.
    This started for us over a year ago. I will never buy another Jeep product. It’s completely unacceptable. The vehicles cost $60k plus and we have to pay for junk.
    Good luck! We are in a battle with Jeep Wave right now to get rid of the vehicle.

    I had death wobble on my brand new 2008 JK with 4000 miles. I took it back to the dealerships 3 times for them to put progressively larger steering stabilizers on it, but the problem persisted. They told me that I would have to buy an aftermarket stabilizer if the largest one they had didn't work. A friend who works on Jeeps told me to replace the junk stock suspension parts with Moog parts. It solved the problem. I took the bill to Jeep, and they argued for a while, but they finally paid me for the parts.

    Steering dampers do not fix death wobble. They just mask the issue until it wears out. Mine has the same issue. My pitman arm is rusty in a spot and the arm pivots before turning with the wheels.

      I believe it's the design of the motor mounts causing a harmonic with the suspension. Engine shook so hard caused a miss fire code

    Jeep has NOT fixed this issue on the 2023 models! I just took a long test drive of a 2023 Overland High Altitude and almost wrecked the thing at 75mph after hitting a dip/uneven spot in the road. Absolutely terrifying and on a brand new stock 59k truck.

    I see alot of comments on worn parts. The guy says this is a new jeep. Inferior parts.....yeah I can see that. My son has a 21 jeep gladiator with the eco diesel. Not only does he have this same problem at around 20K miles, he also has a substantial oil leak. These things are garbage. Very unreliable. Jeep replaced the steering damper on my sons jeep as well. Did not help. I got under the junk....I mean jeep and noticed the steering box output shaft had an egg shape motion while dry steering. I haven't checked the engine mounts and really shouldn't have to. Jeep now is telling him to buy a new set of tires before they will continue throwing new parts on it to try to get it to quit death wobbling. That is BS. They a kicking the can down the road. If after reading this and you want to chance buying one of these know that have been warned

    I'm dealing with this also. Dangerous death wobble. 2022 Diesel Gladiator. 3.5" Clayton Lift, Currie Steering, Falcon adjustable shocks, and Falcon adjustable steering stabilizer. Rock Jock anti-rock sway bars front and back. Have had it to several shops. Right now it's parked in my driveway over this long weekend because it's unsafe to drive over 30mph. It's a real bummer. Back to the shop on Monday. Need fresh ideas.

    Budget Rental rented a Gladiator to me and damn thing about got me killed out on a major interstate. It started the death wobble right when I was in front of two semi trucks at night. Then it kept doing it every time I went over a bridge. Took the trash back to Budget and fighting them for my money back now. Jeep has really let themselves go on quality.

Been thinking about a Jeep gladiator lately, but I am absolutely baffled that Jeep, or Daimler Chrysler, or Fiat or who the heck ever! Has not made it a priority to fix this problem in engineering, once and for all! Simply unacceptable....deal breaker

    So maybe I have been living under a rock but I have not heard about DW in gladiators until today which prompted me to do some research. I have a 19' Rubicon Unlimited with 35's on 2.5" factory fox lift ,20k miles and have never had any issues as of yet. Is this dw mainly limited to gladiator? I was actually just starting to consider trading my Unlimited in for a gladiator with a plan to put 37's and some lift on it. This is making me seriously second guess that. What a nightmare. Damn.. I really like the look of those.

  • @obrianmcc
    @obrianmcc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wouldn't go so far as to say this is common ... but it is a thing. I have almost 30k miles on 35's and my JT drives just fine ... around town and 80 mph on the Freeway. With DW there is usually a direct cause. With mileage I would suspect worn components ... with a new rig I would first check torques on everything ... and I would do it myself vs relying on a dealer to do it thoroughly and correct. Interesting perspective with the 3D camera ... however it's still inconclusive. The DW could just as easily create an oscillation with the motor.

    • @billdickerson2228
      @billdickerson2228 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People are missing "cause and effect". The engine wobbles due to DW, it's not DW due to engine wobble. A shaking engine isn't going to impact steering. It's like saying watching violent videos causes people to kill. No, people who have a desire to kill watch those videos. Cause and effect. The DW causes engine shake. No way an engine will impact that steering. I have the dope - the real story, from true experts- designers and baja racers. Bob Sheaves and Norm Layton - for example. But believe the TH-cam certified techs - more bad info out here than fact. Everyone is an engineer these days.

    Very surprised to see a stock Jeep, with 31" tires experiencing death wobble. Bringing up the misfire was distracting and has nothing to do with death wobble. I didn't see or hear anything specific about what the dealership did to help identify your complaint. Ok the dealership said everything is fine, what does that mean? Would you please break it down for us? Was the steering system completely inspected? Loose, worn, or damaged steering components is the number one reason for death wobble. How is the alignment and was it checked by the dealer on that last visit? Stock 31" tires are still 9.6" wide and with all terrain tread, require more attention and maintenance. Are the tires wearing correctly and were they balanced on your last visit? An improperly balanced tire or improperly worn tire can trigger death wobble. Are the tires rotated every 5K miles? Was the steering stabilizer removed and inspected? The steering stabilizer is a debate that will go on for ever! Truth is a loose or worn-out steering stabilizer will cause death wobble. It will not fix death wobble if loose steering components are present but hypothetically speaking. If the vehicle was perfect and didn't have any steering issues. If you removed the steering stabilizer, it would experience death wobble. How much time did the dealership actually spend trying to find any failures? Just because the truck was there all day doesn't mean they worked on it all day. You may need a second opinion. Not all dealerships are honest, motivated, and knowledgeable. Sometimes you need to talk with the right person to get the help you are looking for. As far as any known solutions, they're out there. Dodge and Jeeps have been using the same style steering setup for many years. It works but can cost more to fix because of all the different moving parts. Jeeps are very popular but even as cool as they are, they are not for everyone. Jeeps are not like other SUV manufactures. (Toyota, Nissan, Ford, or Chevy) The ride quality, short wheel base, and curbside weight is unique and isn't for everyone.

      Thank you for the informative reply. Its a brand new Gladiator with about 3k miles a the time the video was made. Its possible to have issues with components even with a new truck but many are complaining of similar issues. I was sharing only the facts of what happened in my experience and did include CEL's reading misfires. The dealer was able to replicate and the fix as im told was a larger steering dampener that resolved death wobble and misfires were also resolved. If you watch the other video posted, its obvious the engine shakes violently with the front steering causing a harmonic that seems to amplify the death wobble. Ive owned many vehicles one I still own can drive over 90mph without issue no steering dampener 🙂

      @pcmfuse4692 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mistafixit666 Glad you took my words well, no malice was intended and happy to hear that the dealership was able to quickly remedy your complaints. A loose, worn, damaged, or undersized steering dampener is a common cause and will do exactly what you said (Amplify the death wobble). I'm not seeing it because they are still too new and under warranty. I've been a mechanic for over 30 years and typically see death wobble issues with older or modified vehicles. Mostly with Dodge Ram trucks and Jeep Wrangles but here we are. Well good luck and thanks for posting.

      @@mistafixit666 well that sucks. I actually installed a new fox steering damper the other day. While I was under there I found out what was causing it. The wheels had been double wieght balanced 😵 there were sticky weights on one side and external weights on the other side! So going to rotate the tires, they need it anyway. The back tires aren't double weighted thankfully. I'll have the tires re balanced at some point using load balance.

    So my gladiator has 34000 miles on it, never had this issue, but I put after market wheels and tires on the first week I owned it 285/70R17. Last week I decided to put the new takeoff wheels and tires on from when I bought it for a 1200 miles trip. I have to turn around and head back home after 300 miles because of death wobble. Man that is scary at 80 miles an hour on the interstate. My guess is that the wider tires dissipate the initial force, but not sure. Has anyone solved this?

    Id be interested to see how much caster it has. Any less than 4-5 degrees can cause exactly this sort of thing especially as bushes and ball joints wear... If you run 5.5 - 7 degrees caster you can have completely worn bushes and ball joints and still not get death wobble.

    • @billdickerson2228

      Wrong, you can absolutely get DW with worn parts - in fact, too much caster causes what's called "caster wobble". Ever seen a grocery cart wheel flip back and forth?
      I've been doing steering and suspension work for decades - worn parts are worn parts and allow things to flip back and forth. Do some research on "too much caster". On a Gladiator, 5 to 5.5 is about right. I'd never go over 6. You are just plain masking things with more - not FIXING them.
      (bushings, not bushes - bushes grow in your yard).
