    Quick tip.....Use a sheet of cardboard to cover the radiator...one slip and you're buying a new one....

    Nice vid! Do you have a part number, or brand for the pulley assembly. I only found pullys with the tensioner apart. Would like to buy it as a whole

    Hello thanks for the video.. but the same issue on my e39 540i change the tensioner and still making noise. So i should change the serpentine belt? its brand new

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of things in the belt system can make noise. Power steering bump pulley, alternator pulley, idler pulley, AC compressor, etc. If the belt is new and properly installed, I wouldn't replace the belt again.

    Nice looking car. What kind of paint did you use on the valve/vanos covers? Mine needs done on my 01 e38, and my 99 e38 I attempted it on my 95 e38 but it didn't turn out as nice as yours. I'm guessing it has to be something high heat like bbq grill paint or engine paint maybe? Either way, it looks better than the flaking discolored stock job they come with, that's for sure! Would love to know exactly what you used. Thanks for sharing!

    When are you going to fix that huge dent in the door? Other than that looks really nice with those M wheels!

    whats the secondary air pump and whats its purpose? why does it make that loud noise and then shut off?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The secondary air pump runs when the engine is cool to heat up the cats faster so they are more efficient for emissions, I believe. It should be pretty quiet, but I guess Colton's pump is worn.

    • @QuebecOffroading
      @QuebecOffroading 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok i see...because upon start up, after i leave with the car it takes a block and a half for the noise to stop, i thought it was my clutch fan sticking so i changed that out, but the noise is still there after i changed this...it only happens on start up and sometimes it reapears out of nowhere after i get off the highway....im not sure how to test where my noise is comming from or what is causing it...it sounds like a loud vacuum like a shop vac, but higher rpm and louder noise....

      QuebecOffroading It's normal ;)

    So you engine sounds the way it should I take? The reason I ask is I got a 99 540i with 189,000 on it. I have replaced a lot of things because I was worried it was going to break. The engine sounds just like yours does. I replaced the Timing Chain Tensioner it seemed to be okay. Fan Clutch was replaced. All the struts and whole front end suspension tie rods and control arms. I'm doing the AC Compressor next, does anyone know if i can just replace the bearing? There is clicking when it's on I assume that is what it is. I was worried about the timing chain guides but I changed the oil and dropped the oil pan, no plastic bits and everything from the bottom look immaculate. I've spent so much money on this car and I have had it for 3 month. I did all the work my self and I absolutely love this car. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Ohhh...so my question your engine sounds is normal right?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For a high mileage M62, yes. It sounds perfectly fine. There is vanos rattle on startup sometimes as well, that's also perfectly normal. I would say keep changing your oil with full synthetic every 3-5K miles and you'll be okay for the time being. Just keep an eye on it. I became obsessed with worrying about my engine for awhile, but a few friends reminded me that it's going to make me sick. If it breaks, it breaks. All you can do is preventative maintenance to the best of your knowledge. Once you have as many miles as we do on an engine, all bets are off. If it was taken care of, which it sounds like it was, then you'll be fine. Give it some RPMs once warm too! I know mine needs it. Even though it's an old engine, once warm, blow that stuff out of there! Good luck!

      Thanks for the incite. Great job on the TH-cam channel, really informative and helpful. Especially the strut removal and replacement video. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

    I tried tightening the tensioner this way and when I tightened the lower 13mm bolt it wouldn’t stay in place

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to press the tensioner up into place WHILE tightening it. If you 'un-sprung' the tensioner, this will be more channeling and require a harder force before those first threads bite.

    Looks good. Will it be necessary to roll the fenders if you put 265s on those M5 wheels??

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're lowered as I am, yes. If you're at stock ride height, probably not. Hard to say really. Seems to depend on the car. Only one way to find out!

    • @francispowell1811
      @francispowell1811 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, no issue with any of the 265s I've used. I'm running Eibach Pro and Bilstein Sports. 275s require the roll.

      +mrbugatti95 They're all different. This car didn't sound like that... but it's a V8 and not I6. Very possibly could be the chain tensioner though.
