    This is an amazing device. I accidentally dropped my V508 into a bucket of water. Fished it out, put it into a jar of rice, to dry it out. You could see water in the viewing screen. It dried out, and I'm still using it 2 years later. I also bought another one, and use it under my pillow for going to sleep.

    two questions: what's the built-in speaker sound like? and, after you slide up the record button, how long before recording actually starts? hopefully, it's instantaneous. anyway, if you touched on these things in your review, sorry i missed 'em!

    • @gordonsviewsreviews3360
      @gordonsviewsreviews3360  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good questions Erik. The speaker on the V508 is adequate for listening to voice memos or meeting notes, lectures you want to review but it is not something you would use to play back music. Basically it is good for confirming that your recording is fine. It is tinny. For anything more I would headphones or earphones. Regarding the RECORD switch, unfortunately it is not instantaneous. There can be a delay, typically about 5 seconds. For the type of things I use this recorder for that is not usually an issue but I do understand that in many situations it could be. Curiously, if the recorder is in Voice Activated Recording mode, it catches ever syllable. Hope this helps.

      Hi Rudy, I am thinking of getting one for exactly the same reason as you. :-) Do you need a special line-in cable from the device manufacturer or will any line-in cable do? And, would you agree to share some of the recordings you made on evistr508 through line in, for example by uploading them to the vocaroo audio hosting service?

    • @rudytoth
      @rudytoth ปีที่แล้ว

      @@piotrbienkowski1095 They are pretty much cheap but well made devices. On board it has like 16GB capacity but on the TF card the storage is up to 32GB and that has a side switch to what size you need? Supports Windows 98, XP, 7/8/10 versions. It doesn't support Windows 11. Any cable "line - in" will do... Nothing special about that. You will have to determine which switch needed to use for the line - in or external microphone connections. As for giving a sound example it's not appropriate since my recordings remain private, so no one gets offended. And that kind of action you would need written permission from such source to be granted to hear such content. So, purchase the cool DVR and listen to your own recordings. 👍🏻☹️

    Hi - great video. Just bought this Evistr today. I see your channel is for pros and semi-pros, not dopes like me, but I'm a bit lost and hope you can help. (I do have a Sony recorder that is pretty straight forward. I actually love it, except it doesn't stay in the off position when carried around in a pocket and that drives me a bit mad.) On this unit I can't figure out how to file away recordings in different folders, or if that is even an option. And does the password protection only work for when you want to save to computer, or does it protect the unit itself? In other words, I want the voice data to be protected if the unit falls into the "wrong hands" - is that an option? Thanks

    • @gordonsviewsreviews3360
      @gordonsviewsreviews3360  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Stephen. All I have ever found on this recorder is two "Folders", Voice and Music. To be honest, I am not sure there is a way to record directly to anything but the Voice folder. If however, you are downloading music files from the computer to the V508, it will automatically be saved to the Music folder. As for the Password Protection, you must first select and enter a password. Then using the Password Switch option in the System Settings menu under Password Set select Password ON. Turn the unit off. When you turn it back on you will have to enter your Password before you can access anything on the recorder. If you connect to a computer the unit normally turns on but if you have the Password Protection turned on it will not connect until you enter your password. Long story short, using a Password will protect your files from falling into the "wrong hands". Hope this helps. If you have anymore questions, please let me know.

    • @gordonsviewsreviews3360

      Hi Kevin. Unfortunately there is no gain control on the V508. For that you would have to step up to the L53. What I suggest is that you use headphone to monitor as you record. I assume you are using a lav mic. I think you likely have the external mic to close to your source which will cause distortion. To see the different this can make watch my Evistr V509 review ( th-cam.com/video/bUjTeGtcxpQ/w-d-xo.html ). It is ready sensitive and I had to use the lav mic at 12 to 15 inches away and it was still distorting and I have samples that show the difference. Another option is to use a mic that has a gain control. I hope this helps, but if not, let me know and we will see what other solutions we can find.

    Hi Gordon. I ordered two of these from Amazon. Unfortunately, I have to return them because there is no way to adjust the levels. What a bummer to make a recorder and not be able to adjust the level before recording. I reached out to the email they included, but no one got back to me. You had to move the mic away from you. What is the use of using a clip on mic if you cannot clip it on your shirt for being too loud? You should be able to adjust the level so you don't have to physically move the mic away from you. Same with line in. It records way too soft and you cannot adjust the level to record hotter. Bummer. I tried to save money,, but I will have to annie up and buy the Tascam. Cheers. MRT

    • @g.websterstudios6674
      @g.websterstudios6674 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Michael. The V508 does not allow you to adjust the recording levels. For that you need to go to the Evistr L53 which does have gain control. It is cheaper than the Tascam and most reviewers agree is is "almost" as good. I have both and I agree with that assessment. I have used both the L53 and the Tascam DR-05 to record the audio for various video without issue. The L 53 is a much more compact recorder if that is a consideration but the Tascam has the advantage of an SD card. The Evistr only has the built-in memory of 8 Gb. Good luck with whichever you choose.

Scroll to AVR Switch press > Select "ON". Press the Back button. Select AVR LEVELS. Here you have numbers from 1 to 10. One is the most sensitive and 10 is the least sensitive. Hi, Gordon I am a recording secretary of our HOA. When transcribing minutes this device doesn't seem to go back only a minute or so. It rewinds to the beginning of the recording. Is there a way to just rewind a short amount. Very frustrating typing minutes. I can't type as fast as people talk. Help me, please. Thank you.

    • @g.websterstudios6674
      @g.websterstudios6674 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Barbara. I don't know if this will help. There is no way within the V508 to rewind or fast forward within a file. You can however use the A/B facility of the device. To do this you must be playing back the file. When you get to the beginning of the segment you wish to repeat, press the DEL button. When you reach the end of the segment you wish to repeat, press the DEL button again. Your play back will now repeat that portion of the recording until you press DEL again, at which point the play back will continue through the file. You can repeat this as you go and it will not delete or harm the recording.
      If that doesn't work for you there is an alternate method. I will assume that you are transcribing the recordings on a computer. You also likely transfer the recordings to a computer file as a backup. There are several different, free, software packages available for processing recorded files, all of which are excellent. To my mind the simplest is Audacity ( www.audacityteam.org/ ). It is available for Windows, Linux or Apple systems. In the software you can play back whatever section you wish and move around the file freely. You can also clean up the recording of any background noise and edit out any unnecessary interruptions. There are all kinds of tutorials available on TH-cam for Audacity but it is not difficult to figure out for the tasks we are discussing here.
      I hope this helps.

      Sorry for the delay in responding. I was off on a short family ski trip. Accord to my understanding of all these numbers and how they relate, 48Mhz at 16 bit would be 1536kbps and there is no other way to arrive at 1536kbps. You should be fine. Helpful review! One quick question about the denoise switch: in what situations would you not want to use that switch? Based on what I'm hearing, would it be best just to leave it on? I have tried it in quiet rooms/environments and in noisier environments. I have found that in a quiet room there is a slight but noticeable difference on the background hiss. It is definitely less with the Denoise switch turned on. In a louder environment the difference is more noticeable. The Denoise definitely makes a big difference. However, in practice, I do tend to leave it on all the time because I find that sometimes there are ambient sounds I am not aware of until I hear them played back in my recording and often that is too late to do anything to reduce them. The V508 has a built in speaker so you can play back through that or you could plug your headphones directly into it. If you record something on the V508 that you want to have available on your phone later then you could transfer the file from the recorder to the phone either through your computer or by directly connecting the V508 to your phone using the appropriate cable or connector. Hi Saddam. Yes the V508 has the option of "Line In" . You plug the line into the microphone jack and when you press record it will ask if you are using "Mic" or "Line in". It does not record while charging, at least I have never figured out how to do that. But the recorder has very long battery life on a full charge so that shouldn't be an issue. As for replacing the built in battery, I really don't know. That is not something I would every attempt since it is not designed as a replaceable item. I am not inclined to take things apart to see how they are built but maybe one of the people who has watched these videos has and could better answer this part of your question.

      Hi Mickey. The V508 records either MP# or WAV files (your choice). Your Mac should be able to handle both. If the native audio player doesn't accept these files (I am not an Apple user so I have no experience with their software) you can always download something like Audacity which will allow you to use any audio format and you can edit and clean up your recordings easily. Audacity is available for any operating system. www.audacity.org

    Thank you..I have a question...if you are recording a person who is "out of control" extreme screaming of abusive threats and words at full lung capacity..LOUD!!!!! to use this recording as. "Evidence" as to the behavior if the police become involved...WILL THE VOICE BE CLEAR or be garbled and unintelligible do to the loud nature of the person? Will it record in a shirt or jacket pocket etc..for personal safety

      If the person shouting is very close to the microphones (ie. inches) and shouting directly into them, then it would likely be distorted. If the recorder is in your pocket then the voice of the person shouting should be recorded loud but clear.
