Thank you for this video! I actually have the L 157 in my cart on Amazon as I'm typing this. I was just about to submit my order for it when something told me to check the youtube reviews one more time. I'm so glad I did. I discovered your video, and now I want th V 508. In fact, right now the 508 is even less expensive than the L 157. I'm switching my cart right now.
Hi, thanks for the comprehensive review. It's a big help. I just put in my order a moment ago while watching this video of yours. I have watched the rest of your Evistr videos before this video, and it gave me confidence to purchase it for my purpose. I am hoping to record meetings and getting clear voices from this device.
thank you Sir Gordon, I much appreciated your views and reviews to Evistr products. I'm planing to buy soon the V508 which I think is suitable for my recording projects.
Thanks to your informative reviews, I was able to come to a "sound" decision; the V 508 just arrived, very impressive little device! Looking forward to using it to capture song ideas while at work, with the de-noise activated, hopefully reducing the dull roar of the workspace somewhat. Thanks again!
Thank you for this review! I need a stereo recorder and didn't know that the L 157 does not record in stereo. I will seriously consider getting the V 508.
Hello Mr. Gordon! I have the L157, and it records without any ability to modulate the sound. So all recordings are as if way too loud, causing distortion. I have put the volume down to 0 and though somewhat lower in volume, it still records with the same amount of distortion. I don't find that a problem with voice, but when I record my piano practice, even with the recorder buried under a pillow, it distorts the sound in such a way that it is uncomfortable to listen to even for reviewing my practice. No way to modulate. I would be interested to know if the V508 is better in this regard, the same, or worse. Thanks!
Hi Kareemah. It sounds like you need something with a gain control so you can control the recording volume, The Evistr L53 has that or if you want a step up, the Tascam DR-05. Both allow you to adjust the recording volume to prevent distortion. I have not had the type of issue you describe with either the V-508 or the L-157 but I have had it with other similar recorders and it is very frustrating. You will find having a gain control is extremely useful. I hope that helps.
@@gordonsviewsreviews3360 Yes, thank you, for your response back! I found reviews that also show the V508 with a better sound. But since I do have this one, I found a solution in post production, by opening any recorded file from this Evistr into Audacity. I can then apply the 'effect' of 'normalize loudness' and it makes the sound much more comfortable to listen to. Thanks for your suggestions!
Hello, I have the L 157 and I was wondering if anyone knows the best settings to capture clear evps, I think I have mine too sensitive but I'm new to all of this
I didn’t hear any of the recordings from each recorder..your presentation/review repeated in a couple areas..did you show the differences in sound? Just wondering if there’s an issue in the outcome on my side…
Hi Rhonda. I'm not sure what is happening. I have just reviewed the video and all the sound comparison samples played for me. There must be an issue on your end. Try again. If you still have a problem let me know and we will see if we can come up with another solution. Thanks for watching.
... hello mr. gordon, i hope you are having a good day. i need to ask a question of you if i may. i am a technological numbskull and so this may seem like a numbskull question - but it is what it is i guess 😂🤣😅 so, i need to record meetings, and my Olympus recorder i somehow deleted the meetings on it, so im gun-shy on getting another of them. the other problem i had with it was that if i even made a slight movement while recording, the background noise killed the conversing. (i have to hold it during my meetings). does the v 508 do the same same, and do i need a visible mic to get good recordings, as i dont want a visible mic. thank you sir, you are much appreciated.
Thanks for the question. Deleting a file on the V508 is at least a two step process so you are unlikely to erase something in error. As for recording in the situation you describe, I am not sure what to tell you. I am not clear on where the recorder would be while you are recording. If you are handling the recorder there will be some handling noise but I have found keeping the recorder in a neoprene or leather sleeve case while recording really eliminates most of the handling noise. If you are trying to hide the recorder have you considered a USB type recorder? I reviewed the Aomago USB Recorder here th-cam.com/video/Rdy2kFUBVoY/w-d-xo.html It might be a better solution for you. Take a look and let me know what you think. You can always email me directly if you wish at colourpencilmagic@gmail.com
I erase a file on either recorder, press the Menu button. On the L157 the first option is Delete. On the V508 you will have to scroll down a few lines to Delete. When you have selected Delete (ie it is highlighted) and press enter you will have two options, Delete One or Delete All. If you select Delete One it will be the last file or the file you are on that will be deleted. It will show you the file name so be sure it is the one you want to delete. If you select Deleted All, I hope you were sure (it will ask you) because it will delete everything. There is one other method which I tend to use more often and that is to connect to the computer and delete files from there. I tend to transfer anything important to the computer or at least copy it to the computer and then delete anything I don't want or need on the recorder. I hope that helps. If you need any more information please let me know.
Both these recorders come with a USB cable that is used for charging and data transfer. When you plug it into the computer and check your file directory on the computer you will find the recorder listed as USB Drive E (or F or G depending on what all you have attached to your computer) or perhaps as V508 (or L157). When you "click" on this you will see all the files listed. If you are using a Windows computer, simply double clicking on the file will cause it to play in the media player. Or you can either MOVE or COPY the desired file to your computer using the MOVE or COPY commands or simply "dragging" the file to the desired location. I hope that helps. If you need more information please don't hesitate to ask.
I just received the 508. PLEASE go over recording and rewinding to play what you have JUST recorded. I need this for legal work. I need to be able to STOP recording immediately and playing back what was JUST SAID. HOW do you do that easily?!
The RECORD button is on the right side of the V508 as you face the screen. To RECORD you push the button UP. When you are finished or wish to stop recording and SAVE the file, you push DOWN on the same button. If you then press PLAY, the file you have just recorded will be the one that plays. Files are "named" by date & time of recording and the file name is displayed on the screen so you will know which file you are listening to. I hope that helps, but if you need more information, please let me know.
Both recorders use the Date & Time as the file number. Your set the date and time when you set up the recorder. I hope this answers your question, but if not please rephrase it.
