Not sure if this would work down there, but back when I was a kid, my dad would go in and out of the support pilings of a large bridge crossing a bay in New Jersey at night. He would drive the boat, I would hold the long handled crab net and my brother would shine the flashlight. The blue claw crabs would be drawn to the surface because baitfish came to the surface drawn to the bugs and stuff on top of the water that were drawn by the lights on the bridge. Instead of traps, we used to just net us a couple dozen each night we wanted some. A little more work, but the technique was more reliable than the handlines and traps we also used at times. Only issue was the wind, you needed a calm night to do this in order to see the crabs (and for them to be right on top). You had to be quick because once the light was on them, they would start to swim down.
Hell ya I use the smaller ones for bait and eat the biggins and we love the stone crab traps too! In FL we can have 5 stones AND 5 blue crab traps per license. ;) look it up 👍👍
40lb braid is pretty strong if you are fighting them right. It looks like you’re getting broken off on the actual structure so i recommend heavier leader and put more drag on the reel.
I know everyone has their own way but I prefer to back and clean the crabs before I boil, so easy n clean. Like crab on the 1/2 shell, mmmmmmm..........

Those spinning reels don't have enough drag surface to muscle anything large off the bottom. Man up with a two-speed top roller like a Penn 30 or Accurate 50.

He wasn’t able to get them on this video because they were too big for the rod he had and even though I want to support our community, I find rather silly that you think Chinese is the problem.
