PS Tip for others who have exposed screws at the base of their toilet: The base of the container for "Renuzit" or other gel air fresheners that come in a plastic container can fit over that screw. Then some brands have a top that can be flipped open allowing the fragrance to escape. It has a wrapper that can be removed so it is just white object sitting over the screw. Usually these screws stand up about 1.5-3 inches so this can be a safety item as well as a means of adding a delightful fragrance. I cannot attest to how long these gel scents last, but I liked the idea of covering the screw and was happy to discover that this worked. Dollar tree sells a brand called Sure Scents that has a version as well as Chlorox.
That's a good way to spend a rainy day! Maybe you don't feel like it's your place to say anything but the homeowner obviously needs assistance and it would be nice if you could help the family communicate and make a plan for a cleaning schedule going forward. It's one of those difficult things like setting boundaries but, at this point, you can consider yourself a professional cleaner and sometimes it takes an expert to come in and advise on what needs to happen. She has at least 2 older/adult children who could take turns cleaning, even if just monthly. If my mom had all those mental and physical health issues incapacitating her, I'd be cleaning everywhere and washing bedding/laundry too.

Re: for all us folks use to leaving toiletries on the counter. The bathroom is a room of moisture and old skin cells and dust and possibly animal dander. Everything that gets left out on the counter that isn't regularly (think at minimum weekly) rinsed, and wiped will develop an accumulation of that stuff. Imagine how gross that can get 2-3 months down the line. Please look at your bathroom as a series of drains/faucets that are randomly going to start a leak. If you think that way, you will remove more things from below the sink and from on the counter top (esp if these things are NOT water proof). Come up a toiletry container system that works for you to use at the counter but then replace the items back in the container (think make up bag or a hair tool bin/bag) and store that outside of the bathroom. Store medications outside of the bathroom. While you may have tons of storage space in the bathroom, likely if you reevaluate along these lines you will be storing less items in there, so you will need to find locations outside this damp, dusty room to store your "bathroom essentials". I know, I know, it is nonsensical to take things out and put them back when you are just going to use those things the next day. But it really only takes a moment to pull out/put things back and you have an easy to clean countertop. If you can make it a goal to add this to your life, you will have at minimum one area in your life that is clear, clutter free, and easy to maintain. Remember all those colored objects with labels are a form of visual stress that makes clutter blindness more likely in other areas of your home. If you think this doesn't apply to you, I challenge you to try this for a month and see if you experience an improvement.

Yea it’s tough. That’s the bad part about going back to do another area of the same house is that you can see sometimes it’s not kept that way. But I just have to look at it like ok well at least I gave them a week or two or whatever of having a nice peaceful space
Re: household members being present while you are cleaning, I would think there could be some need for protection driving their desire to be on premises while you/someone is doing a 'free cleaning'. I know when my dear ol'ma had her house cleaner first coming to her home, I was unable to "attend" and it did bother me and has lead me to have all sorts of little fears around that person taking advantage of dear ol'ma. We are dancing the fine line of my dear ol'ma living as independent a life as possible while not being in harms way or risking another injury (she has had several fractures in the past 5 years). Just a thought I had...wishing you the best in setting boundaries.
That's a really great point! I see how having someone clean your house while you're not there could be a little unsettling. I have been to this house before so the family wasn’t worried. They came at the end when I was almost finished. 🥰
Re: using the household items for your efforts. While I agree with you, personally I'd bring my own step ladder as I would feel horrible if I broke the homeowner's or worse, broke some bone! I'd like to feel comfortable doing my tasks and that would likely mean bringing stuff I use and are familiar with and can rely on doing a certain level of work. I feel for you on that front: you want to demonstrate that they have all the necessary tools and nothing is needed other than effort and elbow grease, but a deep clean often is beyond those tools one randomly has on hand. Also, I would bring my stuff in a dishpan so I could use it to soak things while cleaning other areas.
All excellent points and ideas 🥰 Another reason I don’t bring many items is because I don’t want to make it such a chore of packing, loading, unloading and then repacking, loading and unloading again when I get home. I’m scared I will burn myself out and not look at is as fun anymore. Part of the thrill is being resourceful haha Yea that’s why I didn’t stand on the seat I wouldn’t want to have broken it. You’re right tho. It wasn’t very safe

Mine too! I want to start trying to build some muscle. I need to find a routine that I enjoy and doesn’t feel like work haha Yes that’s true about them being home and helping, the only problem is sometimes it takes me twice as long because I’m stopped working and talking to them. I can’t shut up 😂

That’s a great idea! I don’t know if I’ll ever run into this again but I will totally do that. She actually gave them to me but I could donate them myself. I was honestly just glad she was letting them go. A lot of times people will give me things and I do sometimes donate them. People are so generous since I don’t charge and I’m happy to take anything off their hands too just to free up their space.
Sunday Im posting a clean for free. My sons place. I find that i have to realy think about my camera placement and check and check that the camera is on record.😮
I kept thinking I point be there much longer. I always under estimate. Also I didn’t know what the deal was like if there was a doggy door… Also after he went the first time I figured he was done. Plus they don’t have a fence so I was worried he’d run away if I took him out. Also they have a huge dog who lives in the basement and I wasn’t sure if they got along or where the big dog goes out to pee in front or back yard… 🤔
Hahahaha yea that little Mischief was all over the place! I ended up storing the toothbrushes in a vase in the hall closet for now. I keep mine in the medicine cabinet but she doesn’t have one of those. She has the cabinet above the toilet tho
