I don’t mean to ruin your immersion in the game but the city map was not made by them. They bought it off a third-party who builds maps using reused assets from other games. The reason why it’s too big is because it was not intended to be used with the type of game hololive is making.

At the moment it looks more like a creative sandbox for vtubers to interact with each other and their fans. Kinda like their own version of anime-style minecraft with a big focus on customisation and socialisation. Virtual concert is one specific activity which proved to be quite successful so far, they have already performed two concerts in the game. They also did events/hologra watchalongs in special in-game rooms some time ago. Long-term vision is to become a full-blown digital platform that can be used by anyone to organise their own experiences for their respective fanbases, kinda similar to VR chat, but without VR so far :) I hope they would add it in eventually as an option. Monetisation-wise, it is mostly character customisation, event-specific items (e.g. digital penlights or fireworks), or potentially some digital merch that you can display and show off in your own virtual house.
