- Boss Metal Zone MT2 Review/Demo
This is a review/demo of the Boss Metal Zone MT-2, its a great pedal with a great amount of gain in it.. and an awesome EQ section.
Other great pedals is Boss Adaptive Distortion and Boss Metal Stack
Signal Chain:
LTD TL-212 with a DiMarzio Super Distortion
Boss MT-2
Laney Ironheart 120H running on 2 watt
Bugera 412H
Sony Handycam HDR-SR12 internal 5.1 mic
this pedal is great! people who dislike it just don't know how to use it.
I don't know why people dislike this pedal. it's so versatile. Great demo too
+Nick James This is a great pedal.. thanx :D
It's because these fools suck and expect that pedal to solve all their tone problems. It's fantastic for quick dial up tone for a practice amp. And really should only be used as a boost with anything else. It's shapes the sound great if you really try to find a sound. It's is fuzzy if you expect the gain to be the key. It's a tone shaper. It is extreme versatile and works with most all rigs powerful or shitty. It's a wonderful unit. All others are a cheap substitute
I've been using it as a boost on a VS100 and a Mesa triple for the last 20 years It's perfect for the valve state. It's the death human sound exactly. I thought the pedal was brilliant because I wanted an Arise type sepultura sound. I'm not far from it. It's a great unit. And it's so obvious it was used on tomb of the mutilated. That's CCs best sound IMO. Zone throughly jcm900s or whatever. Beastmode
Many pedals are quite versatile. My assumption is that those who dislike the pedal either have a shitty amp, shitty humbuckers, or don't know how to dial the settings on amp/pedal. Just scored this today at the market for $20 so it was definitely a steal. Rock on
***** Maybe I'm just used it, not sure about it being the toughest...just an extra EQ section to fine-tune. It's all about compensating between both the pedal & whatever amp is being used.
That is some low tuning/strings lol. Less gain the better that's for sure. Call me crazy but I'm all about 9-46's Super Light Top/ Reg Bottom w/ Eb tuning. Sounds great with the MT-2.
only kids hates this pedal, personally i love this sound!!
I own MANY pedals. Metal Zone is still my favorite.
This pedal is very versatile. It is like a distortion, overdrive, fuzz, and several other distorted sounds in one. I’ve had about 3 of these pedals over the past 20 years.
I have used the MTZ for years had one adjusted for Thrash like Slayer / Anthrax type covers and had another in front for some Glam sounds like Ratt , Dokken , Crue . A lot of people hate it but its very versatile if you just find the sweet spots which there are plenty . People like to blame their Gear when a vast majority of time its YOU and your playing abilities that suck not your Gear ...
Thanks for the demo, it really shows the variety of tones you can get out of this pedal!
i own one for a few years now and i'm impressed with the tones you dialed. good job!
Thanx... I bought mine 17 years ago...
fuck is that pedal that old????
I bought this one in 1998 i think it was so i would consider it 18 years old.
I bought this metalzone 2 weeka ago !!!And its sounds great !!!this pedal help my guitar sound like expensive guitar !! Here in indonesia its price about 100 us Dollars!!! I really love this metalzone mt2 !!!
You should pay a little more attention on how the middle / middle freq knobs work together. It's 2 knobs but 1 actual control, it's one parametric eq.
You pick the freq with the big one and you add/subtract it with the small one.
When the small one is flat (12) the big one is irrelevant, and a couple of times you were changing the freq with the flat gain on it, and that made me think it was ok to give you this suggestion.
Cheerz!
ChristianIce you are right about those two knobs, they work in 2 dimensions, middle volume is Y and and middle freq is X. If volume is 0 you are not changing the freq range selected.
Oddio,ChristianIce qui?!
Anche qui, wow hahahah
ANCHE QUIIIII
Arriva l'espertoh...
Depends on the amp, and the pickups. Into a dark amp with humbuckers it sounds pretty good.
Nice to see someone with the same interests as me! I am a guitar player as well 36 years now, I also own this pedal and 12 guitars. I also shoot air rifle and pistols as well as center and rimfire rifle.
This stomper sounds great with the distortion at 0 on a slightly crunchy amp setting. Low on full, High half or less, Mid at 5k full. Add some reverb and chorus and take over the world.
I had one of these. Totally recommend if you like shredding ;)
You can get so many different tones from the distortion, very versatile and seriously has the meatiest sound to it. Recording it on a mic in a room, just isn't doing it justice.
Simian Gimp I think it would work much cleaner in conjunction with a bit of compression after it, too, but I never got round to that. Would be interested to hear what that's like...
I agree I used one live.. and it sounded so thick and meaty.
Every metalheads should listen to this 5:52
The key of this pedal is lo treble, hi bass and mids, sweet spot on mid freq is on 2 to 4 o'clock. Low dist and hi volume gives thick and gainy tones.
Who does not like the pedal is because does not know how to equalize! In my opinion this is the best pedal ever!
Eric Abbehusen does it sound okay on a marshall mg amp. Does it give the metallica tone?
Agree man !!!! My friends laughing at me when i bought this pedal 2 weeks ago !!! They said that i better bought boss distorsion or overdrive !!! But i really fukking love this pedal
Great video, really gave me an idea of what to expect from this pedal. Thanks for the demo and hope to see more.
leave alone the distortion knob (best zero) ,tweak the eq,put a EH Soul Food/ etc. in front of it and you get a tight/cut through Satriani lead/rythm sound...
this pedal has very small sweet spot...but then it rocks!
This was extremely helpful, I recently purchased this pedal and was having trouble getting a good sound out of it. Thank you!
As long as the inner middle EQ knob (on the right) is at 12 o'clock, meaning no boost or cut, the outside frequency selector ring will have no impact on the sound.
Just bought me one, sounds great! Now I've have to learn how to play guitar lol
Thats great news that you just bought one.. playing guitar is not an easy task, but its easy to get started, and we all gotta start somewhere, you will learn quick with practice every day.. :D
Thanks HG, I only know chords and some beginner level bass. Do you know a good site to learn more hard rock metal stuff 80s-90s?
TH-cam is a great place to be when it comes to learning guitar and riffs...
Ok much obliged
If you're a complete beginner go to JustinGuitar's website. It's freakin amazing dude.
This guys knows what he is doing. Keeps treble and dist in check
Not bad! Sounds better than most videos on TH-cam about this pedal!! 👍👍😎
The MT-2 rips! I think it can be a versatile pedal with some experimentation and patience, and you made it smoke.
As a poster says below, it´s appropiate to remove the mids out of the pedal. I got mine modified with a kit by Pedaldoc. There are lots of other people around selling kits to modify this pedal, and you may even find some info in the net. My Mt2 really sounds amazing, and it cost me about 20 bucks to modify it.
Great review sounded great just picked one up and have the new one in backorder
Don't know why people hate this pedal that much. Its sound really great actually.
Metal Zone is the best ever Pedal that Boss have Made 🤟
I was very suspicious about that pedal.but i think hello this is boss.i order it and im soo happy.pedal is great.some people just dont know to use it
It actually sounds good through a clean channel
Good heavy metallic thunder blast sound !!!!awesome what else more can you ask for !!!!!thumbs up
good work demoing this pedal. I'm about to pick up my metal zone (third time) this weekend.
Great Demo of the MT-2! Ty
+William Zeller Thanx :D
i am fan of this pedal
Best pedal ever made for metal.. Still have my original.. Fuck the haters, whoever doesn't like it don't know how to eq or just can't play. Go buy your yuppie overpriced boutique pedals. Been playing metal and thrash since 82,this pedal does it all. Forget playing it through the loop effects, 100 watt Marshall stack on clean channel since 82....boss is #1 in pedals!!
Cool 80's metal sound!!
What is your amplifier? is this pedal put in to send/return of the amplifier?
Hey I started playing at 25 years old now I'm 31 years old. I'm rocking more then ever playing ozzy songs..... But I'm having a hard time setting the same pedal up. now do I plug my guitar chord into the input how do I set this thing up just bought it.
great pedal!!!! love it
3:33 this riff is just awesome
I don't see why people cal it trash. Plugged it into the clean channel of a boss katana, couple of minutes of tweaking and i got a killer metal tone from it
does the pedal needs to be plugged to the electricity with the transformer or the batterie is all thats needed ??
yeahh good efx for metal.... with full of sustain distortion can adjust the clarity of tone high to low
I have a metal zone 2 and i love it 👍
y’all think one could be used on a bass?
3:01 I don't need more reassuring lmao this is the doing I've been looking for
Question. Does my metalzone supposed to light up when i press the pedal without connecting to amplifier? I mean, idk if mine is still working. I bought new batteries to try but the red lights wont flash. I do not have amplifier as of now. I need an answer
Plug in some headphones and see if it light up... and you will also be able to head if its working.
HearGear i dont have headphone :) metalzone only. It's just a gift which i havent use for a long time. But now, i want to check if its still working
There needs to be a cable in the input i believe
yeah i dont get all the hate for this pedal, i really like it
in front of ampli or effect loop (return ?)
These pedals sound so much better if u run them in the effects loop..
I wonder if that pedal will be good for marshall valvestate vs100 amp?
My 1st pedal.but i got a ds -1 as well. but i dig the metal zone better. chunkular
Wow i like this sound,🤘🤘
Would this pair well with a Marshall MA100H?
hey at 5:53 so is that a good setting for metallica it sounds good? I got this same pedal was wandering what would be the best setting for there sound? and what I would set an amp too low and highs too with this pedal.
You wanna know the secret? So, here's how to get that metallica's setting on a mt-2. It's a secret, man... but I'll give you some... Lvl 3 o'clock, Hi 3 o'clock, Low Full, Mid 9 o'clock, MidRange 11 o'clock, Dist 2 o'clock. On your amp you need to scoop the mids, and set your bass and treble to 10. Oh yeah! In order for you to sound it right with an mt-2... You need to buy a graphic eq to boost it up
:)
MasterTechieRep thx man really appreciate your feedback
whats a good compatible amp for this
would you recommend using this on a distortion channel of a power tube amp (in my case the 6505+) to just give the lead channel a boost?
Enlightening video. Are you actually Skwisgaar?
I own this pedal for almost 20 years now, and any combination i tried with it always sounded too much nasal and too 'thin', when i boosted the lows the sound gets too compressed and mummling almost like playing a bass, when i alter the highs it gets too much swashhhhhhy, when you concentrate on middles, there's no way this is metal sound, all in all only thing that held me from selling it is the sustain that is longggggggg, and that actually when u are using it, it sounds like you know how to play the guitar :D
Still best distortion for me
actually opinions change depending on what guitar, what pickup, what amp, be it a tube stack or a solid amp. example if you run this thing through a crappy amp well, you get an (obviously) fucked up sound.
I would recomend you to use a Noise Supressor, belive me, noone likes the noise gate.
I dont use this pedal, its just a demo, i have a Boss NS-2 on my pedalboard
is it useful for bass?
Yes!
Which tuning you are into??
Ppl talk shit about this pedal. Bee hive blah blah. Ohhh run it through the FX loop blah blah. Music nerds.
If you play dirty music you use a dirty pedal.
EMG 81 pickups and MZ in front of a Marshall. This pedal slays.
How do i set my eq amp settings. I get get down the mid, bass and treble or jus the mid and keep the treble and bass up?
Thx in ad
set the settings on the amp at 12 o'clock. then use the pedals to colour the sound.
what is you guitar model?
Tama lumalabas nga ang mismong tunog ng electric guitar s analog... compare s multi
My first pedal.. still greeaat.
Good for Metallica
Now try it through a S-S-S strat and a 6-inch speaker transister amp...
its so cool
does it work on acoustic amp? help please🙏
+samrat rajbhandari yeah, works great on an Acoustic amp. I have an Acoustic 270.
to get a that true metal sound.. take the mids out..
finally thank goodness someone sees it my way. wanna get married tomorrow morning at 10
lol only if you're a woman lol.

I really hate this pedal. If you want a great sounding metal distortion, try the Mooer Rage Machine. I use it and love the tones. It is half the size of all Boss Pedals, as it is Micro, making it easy to fit on your board. If you want to play Metallica, Welcome to The Black Parade, or any heavy licks, check out the Rage Machine from Mooer.
I hate this pedal too ='[
Same pedal system of a down uses. Badass
I have one but I want it sound for thrash
Prince used this pedal but he was just an amateur guitar guy, right? No.
When you set MIDDLE to 50% ,,, no effect to the sound if you dial MID FREQ at any position ..
i love the sound. its perfect for thrash and hard rock. but it sounds good on my amp with just a volume knob , and it sucks on a marshall. it is becouse this is a preamp and you put a preamp in a preamp THATS WHY THE SOUND SUCKS)
what amps is it good for?
Van Nevel Stijn so it sounds better on a more basic amp, without effects?
Justin Boling yes. And try it in the effects loop :)
2:26
This guy sounds like the guy that in frog leap studios
eeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeee eeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeee so many eeeeeeeeee
Just buy a line 6, i have got i 15 watt line 6 iv spider, i just run a cable to 100watts speakers or everything you want, and than play, probobly one of the best amps for metallica. Soor for my english :-)
Охуенный звук! Русским привет!
mortel !!
Laney irt120? lol that explains it
Mt2 > bad amp = lil bit better
Ds2 (set clean/bit dirty) > Mt2 > bad amp = much better
Mt2 > good amp set clean = good if you can find a good setting
Mt2 > good amp with good dist/drive = you better set Mt2 off man :)
#imo#xperience
note: now my mt2 mid freq doesnt work, so the dist is like standard 80s dist lol..looking for time to fix it.
if the behringer um300 has a any color (beside girl's color like pink..lol), it could be a good competitor for the mt2.
Yes i think so to..
It's not that bad but yeah, not that good either
Metal
MT-2 better than ML-2
Vive le qc!!!
hahaha you had to be scandinavian. cool man. i like the review
Yeah... uh... that it... uh...
tanxx

I wanna throw mine in the air and hit it with an aluminum/wood baseball bat. Anybody got any settings they could share? Thanks.
Mickaël Holladay Question. Does my metalzone supposed to light up when i press the pedal without connecting to amplifier? I mean, idk if mine is still working. I bought new batteries to try but the red lights wont flash. I do not have amplifier as of now. I need an answer
It's supposed to light up when its plugged into a battery and or into the wall. It has to have a current flowing to it.
Mickaël Holladay distortion and level at 12:00. Treble at 9:00. Mid/bass at 2:00
The settings you used were horrible :(
