Steve, there are two major updates for all Niro 2021 models. The first one is a vbios update, increasing the TGP to 95W+5W for 3070 and 3080. The 2nd update increases the GPU thermal throttle limits to around 80 degree C. Those have increased the performance by good margin. Notebook check has confirmed the same and they have both before and after results.
Yes, I heard about that I still have it. I will update it and do a 85w vs 100w vs 140w RTX 3070 video. I was going to start working on before I got hacked, then Windows 11 came out and am working on Windows 10 vs windows 11, so will do the other one afterwards

Regarding the upcoming video: does ray traced Minecraft run on the AMD Radeon 6000 series cards, or does one need an RTX card from Nvidia for that? I've seen videos of people trying out Cyberpunk on the RX6800m with ray tracing on and geting about 20 fps. I imagine on the rx6700m and the rx6600m it will be less... But what about Minecraft, will it run? And how many fps can I count on? Would you check that out for me and my kids? Thanks.
I can try that if you like. I will be doing an unboxing video on it shortly. In regular non Ray Tracing it seems as good as a 3060. For the review I will try Minecraft for sure!
The Nitro 5 is the most affordable RTX 3070 in my country at about RM5799 ($1389) for the 144Hz model and about RM6399 ($1529) for the QHD 165Hz model. I'd say if you don't mind the performance hit because of CPU this is pretty reasonable price to performance laptops. By the way does the 2021 model have a 2nd SSD slot? If I'm not mistaken three generations of Nitro has 3 storage bay but I'm unsure of current one.
@@joelconolly5574 cause normally its not. But its not impossible. I ve done that with older nitro 5 models, legion y520 and asus gl502vs. The results are brilliant higher cpu and gpu clocks, better gpu oc headroom ( if tgp allows )....however at the cost of mobility.
I got black friday deal for 17.3", 144hz, 1080p, 1tb ssd versio for 1349€ in Finland (was out of stock, should come in december :). Little scared for the fan noise and heat, but hopefully its bearable.. Also i think it should come with 100w, but if not i heard bios update fixes that.
i tested the RTX 3080 in the helios 300 and for the extra $750 over the 3060 model I didn't think it was worth . I feel the same here and mentioned that in this video. I also linked my review of the helios 300 RTX 3080 too so you can check that out

I have this laptop and I like it a lot except the performance is inadequate for a 3070 spec. I am only getting 60-90 fps in modern titles at 1080p. That has to be considered a disappointment. I purchased in Thailand for about $1,450. Cheers
You can install a 100w vbios from their web page. I'm working on a video that shows how that compares to the stock 85w and also a 140w. Tested in optimus and dGPU.

2 days ago micro center had the 15.6 and 17" Legion 5 on sale for 1199 usd.... grabbed one for a friend and one for me. The 15.6 might still be 1199, I think the 17 went to 1299 but has a less fancy screen

Man they've come a long way since my Helios 500 with the Ryzen 7 2700 and Vega 56. Mobile 3070 is between 33% and 61% faster than the full fat Vega 56, without needing a 330w power brick. And let's not get started on comparing the CPU, there's no comparison 🤣 Oof, no DisplayPort connector though, not ideal for a docking solution for a older higher resolution/refresh rate monitor that doesn't support the new HDMI standard.

Acer are really pathetic for putting such top end hardware into such cheap chassis. They even have a 3080m version of it for goodness sakes 🤦♂️ They should really remake cooling like Legion did a couple years ago and get rid of that gamery design, it's not 2016 anymore and it seems like they still don't get it. Looks like the 1650 is either Intel or the 4600H and the RTX 3050 one is Intel. I recall watching HWinfo to see what the CPU power was in my test and it was only 3.5w, perhaps it was pinging the 3070 too often..
Hey steve! Great video. This thing's ''value'' is crap in US but its alright in places like India where its more in line with higher end rtx 3060 options. I'd really like for you to cover the gf65 thin from msi. If you think asus has a terrible cooling solution, you haven't seen the gf65 thin. Its actually the worst one I've seen for quite some time now. Its a shame because otherwise the gf65 thin is often times the cheapest 3060 laptop in asia and is actually one of the most portable at 1.86kg. It even has the necessary heatpipes to properly cool its 3060. But zero air vents.
Do you know the hilarious thing? This thing costs nearly the same in India. Its roughly $1800. So ironically, its much better value than most rtx 3060 laptops like the legion.

I had a laptop for 2 years(from 2008 to 2010) where half of the ports were behind the laptop and I absolutely hated looking behind the laptop every time, turning it and so on. It's especially inconvinient when you use your laptop mostly as a desktop with external monitor connected, as all those wires get on the way when you try to connect some new device like a hdd.

That is cheaper than in the USA by a good amount! I couldn't see a second m.2 slot. Just the 2.5" bay
Sacrificing its mobility You can watercool that laptop and get rid off high cpu temperatures. 40 degrees down makes wonders :)

It is overheating non stop, i dont know what is wrong with it but all games have fps drops and overheating is major issue with it.

Seemingly it is $160 cheaper in India, so about $1539. That is more reasonable. I paid $1699 for my Legion 7 with 5800H and RTX 3070 (140w)

i have the same laptop new but with i5 11th but the batterie it take only 1h and 15 minute from 100 to 0 with mode ecnomy and watching youtube
What screen brightness? Did you click on battery saver? How about screen refresh rate, changing that to 60hz should help

The fan noise on nitro 5 is Bad.. even Just TH-cam watching is Fan 2500 rp
Perhaps that's why the battery life was poor during my TH-cam battery test
