We need to remember that Jack is just a scared, insecure little boy who lives in his mom’s mansion basement and built robots because he had no friends. Him switching sides and trying to seek approval from his peers is who he is. This clip really expanded his character. Shame we never see him get what he really wants.

Agreed. He has a bad self image. When we see good Jack, he was more self secure. Jack is like alot of villains. Bad self image and misunderstood. To me, in xiaolin showdown. Only Dirus ( the mermaid/ siren), Wuya, Gigi ( the heylin plant), the large evil spiders, Sibini and Hannibal Roy Bean were the only true evil characters on the show. The following arent evil in my opinion because 1. Jack Spicer- like this showdown revealed, he feels small and worthless and he thinks he will fail at being good. And out of all the villains, he is the most childish and somewhat flamboyant. Always trying to impress people. 2. Kantappe- only on the heylin side because she gets a thrill out of being bad. She has no interest in world domination. In fact if working for wuya is too much work, she quits. She only wants to live a life of luxury 3. Tubbimura- only works for bad guys as a job. He doesnt appear to be evil 4. Jack bots, RoboJack and the Cameleon bot- creations of JackSpicer, they dont count 5. Vlad-a similar to tubbimura 6. Chase young- chase young once said that one is only truly evil when one chooses to be. Ironically, he technically didnt choose to be evil. The weird soup Hannibal gave him ( I cant spell it but I thing it's the Lai mang lou soup) turned him evil. In the series finale when Frank the wrong soup ( thanks to omi) he was still good 1,500 years later. The same is true for the alternate version of Master Monk Guan 7. Cyclops.-not ot be mean, but he seems to be a dimwitted monster following Jack and Wuya 8. Jessie Bailey- clay's sister. She seems to have an inferiority complex since she says Clay does everything better than her. When she cheat in the showdownaand finally beat him, she wasnt as happy as she think she would have. She eventually gave back all the shen gong wu, except the Wings of Tinabi 9. Raimundo- yes he is a good guy, but he was temporary on the heylin side. When wuya read his mind she sau that he hated the endless training,bare minimum lifestyle and unappteciatedness and a xialin monk.so when wuay gave him a chance to live a better life, he joined her side. When wiya initially told him he need to back to the xialin temple one last time, he walk said said he wants nothing to do with xialin. She had to coach him more to do it. Raimundo felt hnappreciated, but, the fear ofosing his friends is what made him betray wuya
I like how no one was watching them. This was a great one-on-one moment for these two. Really developed Jack as a character by letting us know that he wants to be good but hates being constantly being seen as a failure.
It's a shame Omi couldn't have taken a moment to give Jack another chance to redeem himself, knowing that Jack was being earnest about trying to be good.

Well in a sense. Jack may never be good. But in some ways he’s a bit of the Monks’ best frenemy. Mainly because no matter what side he’s on he’s a wild card and you never know which way they’ll fall.
I really liked the visual design of this showdown. A rising column of balloons, threaded through two concentric rings of decorative screens. The theme and challenge of answering questions helped too. Really, the "sensible" choice would be to swallow one's pride and answer truthfully with all questions. Except sometimes we lie to ourselves as much as to others, to the point where we don't even realize how little we understand our own motives.
I've been rewatching the series, and I have to agree that this is definitely one of the most interesting Showdowns in the show! But it transitions into such an awkward moment! When he asks about Catnappe afterwards, the show repeats its first half!

Of all Xiaolin Showdowns this one made me the most sad. I honestly feel like if Jack was given a proper chance, he would’ve made an excellent Xiaolin warrior.
That was actually an idea with him at one point in the early seasons. He was gonna join the team as the warrior of metal. Completing the five elements of Wuxing.

It’s funny how Jack is teetering between good and evil. On one side there’s so much untapped evil in him he could overpower Wuya, Chase Young, and Hannibal Roy Bean, all at once. But at the same time he’s just a few steps from being fully good actually trying his best but gave up because he was too afraid to fail.
I love this showdown and episode as a whole. Looking back its easy to see how Jack had such a misserable and lonely childhood: he basicly lives in a basement, has no friends, and gets neglected by his parents. Everything could've changed for him here, and he actually tried to change: he could've gained friends, he could've had the opportunity to open up, and be accepted member of a group, he did pretty well figthing on the good side too, but sadly he was bombarded with misstrust and doubt, and being driven like a slave for being or used to being a badguy as well as a newguy. I really wished they followed up on this episode, and as much as I like Jack as a villian, I really wanted to see him join the good guys permanently
This hurts my heart. Jack is so underestimated but he’s actually really brilliant. Probably part of why he wants to take over the world because people made him feel so small and worthless. The monks didn’t even try to help him. They just mainly bullied him and gave Jack a ridiculous workload. A friendly ear they say is a path out of inner turmoil. This showdown shows the potential turning side for Jack Spicer. Honestly now that I thought of it since he tried to be a good guy on that episode showing that in the deepest depths of his heart he curses Chase and Wuya for looking down upon him and that he simply wanted to make friends which he had the chance to do so through Omi.
i read somewhere that initially, Jack was meant to become the Dragon of Metal, as it follows the Chinese elements of Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, and idk what air is doing there but whatevs

If Jack had been put under the authority of Master Fung or only Omi he would have become a monk, maybe not a Dragon-- though I do subscribe to the idea that he has the potential to become the Dragon of Metal-- but a Xiaolin Monk all the same. Unfortunately, his hazing initiation got out of hand and became mean-spirited passive revenge which pushed him away. If both sides hate you, you might as well stick with the side where you know where you stand and are honest about it.
It would be great if he joins the good guys and becomes nicer because the reason why he's such a jerk and wants to be evil is because he has a really bad opinion about himself, and because to much loneliness made him bitter and spiteful. I'm glad that they actually shown that he has problems instead of making him a one dimensional mean rich kid you see in every show.
I figured Jack tried because he’s not truly evil but deep down he felt like he wouldn’t have lived up to their expectations but if he stayed he may not have been a fighter but he’s still a genius he could’ve built ways to help them

(Raimundo betrayed them before and has had to work extra hard to win their trust back, especially Omi who probably took it the hardest)

He was suposed to turn into the metal dragon but the company didn't allowed it, the creator still has ideas for this universe but unless he gets the right back nothing can be done.
There should've been a follow up to that showdown if the acknowledged that jack actually did try, omi should've given him a second chance and assured him that he's not alone and that he can rely on him, then made up a story to justify jack stealing the wu to the others, that would be a good way to start turning jack into the good side naturally without it feeling forced, jack deserved better than just being the side piece in this show cuz he's good at heart but he just hates the world and doesn't seem to have a good influence in his life

To me Chronicles was all because of Hannibal Roy Bean....He used the Treasure of the Blind Swordsman to trapped the Xiaolin Monks, Dojo, Jack, and Chase into an artificial reality making them also totally weird (like the Chase wagering his hair bit...) and sound different and altering their memories (like Rai not being the leader cause he hates him still) so he and Wuya can TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!...Ok...it does sound kinda crazy...BUT IT LEAST MAKES MORE SENSE THAN CHRONICLES!!! >:(
That's his character development, he is in between sides, he is not as evil as Chase or Wuya, and he is not as good as the protagonists, he's just searching for his place
Greatsaiyakirby Jack's character was handled so poorly. He had so much potential to be a great character, but the writers threw it away for the sake of cheap humor. They turned him into a pure comic relief character and I thought he derserved more than that.
The 3D showdowns are gross. Like look at this. It’s so simplistic and beautiful. Another fav of mine is the one where the catfish were switching the Wu between Rai and Tubby. That was clever and made full use of the environment the showdown was declared. Just like this one
I would be terrible at this game if they started questioning my morals and how I feel about things. I might regret something in the past, but I would not really care for it in the future of it didn't leave a huge impact.

The shroud symbolizes the need to hide your true self and the ring of 9 dragons possibly symbolizes the multiple personalities that people use to blend in in order to hide from people
Maybe he was just shocked that someone actually believed in him? Maybe a part of him wanted to lose, because he finally found someone who wasn't just manipulating him or using him for their own ego? Or maybe along the way he did try to use his backpack but the rotors got caught on the balloons and popped them all on the way down, which is why we keep hearing popping sounds as he plummets back into reality?

Easily. This was one of the more emotional moments in the series. You could really feel and believe Omi’s disappointment

He is very much like anakin skywalker was. He had the potential to be greater than anybody but manipulation and bullying led him back to evil.
Best showdown as it reveals so much about Jack and Omi we didn't need to see the balloon change as Omi's tone said we did believe Jack.
Which shows Jack is afraid of Failure. If the other monks supported Jack instead of put him down he could’ve been good.

To me Chronicles was all because of Hannibal Roy Bean....He used the Treasure of the Blind Swordsman to trapped the Xiaolin Monks, Dojo, Jack, and Chase into an artificial reality making them also totally weird (like the Chase wagering his hair bit...) and sound different and altering their memories (like Rai not being the leader cause he hates him still) so he and Wuya can TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!...Ok...it does sound kinda crazy...BUT IT LEAST MAKES MORE SENSE THAN CHRONICLES!!! >:(

Greatsaiyakirby Jack's character was handled so poorly. He had so much potential to be a great character, but the writers threw it away for the sake of cheap humor. They turned him into a pure comic relief character and I thought he derserved more than that.
So true, and Xiaolin Chronicles butchered his character even more.

The 3D showdowns are gross. Like look at this. It’s so simplistic and beautiful. Another fav of mine is the one where the catfish were switching the Wu between Rai and Tubby. That was clever and made full use of the environment the showdown was declared. Just like this one

I would be terrible at this game if they started questioning my morals and how I feel about things. I might regret something in the past, but I would not really care for it in the future of it didn't leave a huge impact.

How did Jack lose doesn't he have a backpack that can make him fly?
Maybe he was just shocked that someone actually believed in him? Maybe a part of him wanted to lose, because he finally found someone who wasn't just manipulating him or using him for their own ego? Or maybe along the way he did try to use his backpack but the rotors got caught on the balloons and popped them all on the way down, which is why we keep hearing popping sounds as he plummets back into reality?

I’m glad I wasn’t raised with cable I only got my good channel pbs kids 28 fox 11 shows and ktla 5 kids wb ...and of course! ABC7 Saturday movies and holidays cartoons like Charlie Brown and some shows my favorite pushing daisies but was cancelled dammit!
