I agree. This one was excellent and I really enjoyed it, but I certainly will need to rewatch this a handful of times. I've forgotten about half the words already.
ahaha i love avraham being silly and hearing beth trying to contain her laughter. his sense of humour comes across so well and makes watching and learning that much more engaging. what a lovely couple
Just for the sake of practice I have been referring to my dog as "the little donkey" ("the little donkey is on the hill behind the house", and so on). I'm sure he will be very glad to have a more dignified name! ;)
You guys are brilliant! Any favorite text book you would recommend. I am currently working my way through a course using classic pronunciation. I much prefer your grammatical style. Blessings 🙏
Shalom! No one favorite textbook to share, but a couple of good ones that Avram recommends are Ross and Van Pelt. Of course their pedagogy is very different than what we're trying to do with our videos, but they can be a good resource to combine with other communicative materials.
ים, מים, שמים Is there an etymological connexion here? Wiktionary just says they’re from Proto-Semitic. I was thinking of Genesis 1:7 when God divided the waters into the waters above (firmament) from the waters below. If “ša” has a meaning like “divide” or “above” I would be ecstatic! Haha.
I don't know of any etymological connection, I'm pretty sure it's just coincidence that they sound similar. It's helpful to realize that מים and שׁמים, are both plural nouns in Hebrew with no singular form, so it's always "waters" and "skies." That explains why they have similar endings.
Hi Avram and Beth. I praise God for these videos which are helping me to build fluency, with the goal of reading and rightly handling the OT (2 Timothy 2:15). Is there a difference between אַיִן and לֹא ? For example, if someone asks, "Is there condemnation for those in Christ Jesus?" (Romans 8:1) would a person thinking in Hebrew reply "אַיִן" or "לֹא"? Are both used interchangeably? I noticed that both words are used in the same passage many times such as Genesis 43:5, Joshua 2:4 and 2 Samuel 20:1.
Hi Oscar, glad our videos have been helpful! There is definitely a grammatical difference between אַיִן and לֹא: they are used to negate different things. If you want all the details, I recommend looking them up in a good Hebrew reference grammar, but to oversimplify it a bit... לֹא is a general negative while אַיִן usually negates existence, so when I say אַיִן in this video it means "there is no _____" or "there is none." If the question is a question of existence "is there ___?" then a negative answer would use אַיִן instead of לֹא.
I watched it one more time, and I will watch it again as many times as necessary. I noticed that sea, heavens and waters have the same root word. As the Holy scriptures declare; Then Elohim said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus YHVH made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And YHVH called the firmament Heaven (Waters Above). Lo vi una vez más y lo volveré a ver tantas veces como sea necesario. Noto que mar, cielos y aguas tiene la misma raíz Palabra. Como declaran las Sagradas Escrituras, YHVH apartó las aguas arriba y lo llamó cielos, así que hay aguas allá arriba sobre la cúpula.
No, yam and mayim are not of a similiar root. You notice that when in arabic (if I'm correct) the word for mayim is May (singular), so seeing similiar letters (ym and mym) does not really prove relation. *BUT*: you were Spot on with mayim, and shamayim. The word shamayim is compound of sham, and mayim. Sham means lofty, or sky, so we have shamayim meaning lofty water, or sky water.

Modern names can confuse people. Space, the sky are heaven. Galaxies are in heaven. The Horse 🐴 head nebula, the Pillars of Creation, and the Eye of G-d are in Heaven. Somewhere there is the Throne Room of Adoni in Heaven but when someone says they dont believe in heaven I ask them to look up. Its right there.

A question: is there a rule to explain why the noun for day takes the suffix -am to form an adverb of time, but the noun for night does not? Thanks!
No rule that I'm aware of to explain that. There are a few other adverbs that also take the -am suffix, however.
