Well deserved praises to the creators of this video, and to all the people involved. If I may suggest a couple of improvements, you might consider talking a bit slower as it might be difficult for a foreigner to focus on the pronunciation of the words and the meaning at the same time. Also, I would suggest using a tablet on a tripod or a laptop on a stand just near/below the camera to avoid reading from the sheets and doing up and down with the eyes all the time. Keep it up, great job!

Did anyone else actually go out and buy the ingredients to make pasta with potatoes because they saw this video? Or am I the only one who enjoyed a great pasta with potatoes meal thanks to Cademia Siciliana?
Really nice video! Visiting Palermo soon and getting a feel for the language is great :) Agree with the comment below though, combining a slowed down, almost syllable by syllable pronunciation with the natural, faster version would be great for learning, it's very hard to catch everything when it's going so fast (at times)
Until recently speaking in dialect any dialect was considered uncouth, my aunt used to tell her children that speaking dialect was ignorant, school reinforced the point. So the pressure plus the nefarious influence of television has managed to impoverish the vocabularies of dialects throughout Italy.

Well said! A dialect of Italian was spoken in my home as a child, but there was pressure against learning it because it was considered a sign of ignorance as opposed to speaking standard Italian. What a pity, this missed opportunity for me to grow up bilingual!

you guys realize all the amricans who had parents who speak the dialects are all dying off and their family has little experience with any of them. Once reason was many Italian American families were couples who met in America and were from different parts of Italy, if even they married another Italian.

Hi Budorman! I'm a co-founder at Cademia Siciliana, and I grew up in the US as a native sicilian speaker. Although younger Sicilian speakers in the diaspora are less common than they once were, the demographics of the Sicilian-American community are not uniform across the United States and indeed many Native Sicilians speakers do exist across the anglophone world. Furthermore, outside of the United States, our United Kingdom, Irish, Australian and Canadian communities are all going strong! I'm glad you enjoyed our videos and hope we can make a new one in the next few months.

Here are some sicilisn words that are different from their Italian equivalent: babbasuni (dummy), vavaredda (eye pupil), voculanzicula (swing), timpulata (slap), ariddu (cricket),
banniari (screaming), funcia ( snout, or fat lips) sciarra (fight), cannarozzu (throat),

le parole sono tutte uguali al italiano..non ouo mai essre mai definita come una lingua propia..e per questo è un dialetto...
Sono americano. Anco mi chiamo Filippo ( ma Phillip in inglese) Per favore, perdona mi tentativi e errori nello scrivere italiano / siciliano. Spero che mi pensieri sono chiari e non intendo offendere a nudda.
C'haio poca conoscenza dello siciliano tranne che dalla mi Nanna con cui haio abitato troppo assai anni fa da picciotto. Penso di scartare lo siciliano come lingua perché capisci tutte le parole usate in chisto video, perché esistono puro in italiano, ma con una pronuncia più assai preferita, manca il punto.
Sono sorpreso che alguni italiani non piaccia riconoscere diverse lingue storiche in Italia, ma sono più che tolleranti nell'usare molte parole inglesi invece di parole italiane nello linguaggio quotidiano. È quasi come se l'uso di una parola inglese é sofisticato, però l'uso di una parola siciliana (o napoletana, veneziana o di altra lingua italiana) rappresenti mancanza di classe o educazione.
Anco in chisto video sento le parole siciliane "Cucuzza"; "Racina" e "Cirasa". Forse chiddi parole sono conosciute menza tutti li italiani, ma ogni volta che ascolto madrelingua italiane, chidde parole prime che descrivono lo cibo in Sicilia paranno essere sempre sostituite di "Zucchine"; "Uva" e "Ciliege".
Spesso mi Nanna cucinava 'lumache', ma non le chiamava mai accusì. Erano sempre 'crastuni' o 'babbaluscie' seconda alla varietà. Perché ignorare la parola usata dalle persone che vivono in una zona per descrivere un cibo trovato e coltivato nella zona d'Iddi? Voglio avere tanticchia 'sfingi' o 'cuscidati' o un pezzo di 'figurinnia' in chisto momento dalla cucina di mi Nanna. Una grazia a ungneruno per lo permesso a ricordare mi jiuventezza.

Il siciliano italianizzato che senti nel 2020 dai giovani o dai quarantenni lo è, non di certo quello di mia nonna. Il siciliano è riconosciuto ufficialmente come lingua dall'UNESCO, non confondere il siciliano snob italianizzato con il siciliano antico, non c'entrano assolutamente nulla.
Il 90% delle parole norvegesi sono uguali alle parole danesi. Il 99% delle parole slovacche sono uguali alle parole ceche. L'80% delle parole spagnole solo uguali alle parole portoghesi. Il 90% delle parole catalane sono uguali alle parole spagnole.
@@petera618 ciao Peter, purtroppo è vero! In America quando anni fa' si migrava si cercava di portare tutto il proprio mondo lì, i costumi, il cibo è soprattutto la lingua! Oggi seppur moltissimi Italiani e siciliani ancora emigrino la situazione è cambiata, si ha quasi il timore di parlare con un accento italiano.. figuriamoci in siciliano.. per curiosità da dove vieni in US? Io ho cugini di mia madre nel Massachusetts ( Boston) ed a San Francisco, però non li vediamo da anni, ciao un abbraccio.
