Edit: Yung’s Better Desert Temple is another example, it gives you mining fatigue, but if you bring TnT the mining fatigue can be negated. You’re forced to explore unless you come prepared which is nice.

Honestly I bet sooner or later a big minecraft youtuber will discover this mod and showcase it in a video which will cause its downloads to skyrocket. or maybe more people will talk about it also causing its downloads to skyrocket. either way I am certain this mod will eventually go down as one of the best progression mods in minecraft.
TacZ and VPB are great modern gun mods. But lets face it. Its boring unless you're running modern themed modpack. One good gun mod that is not boring is Scorched Guns 2
I highly reccomend Mariums Soulslike Weaponry, adds a TON of new weapons from games like Bloodborne (The Kirkhammer and the Guns from it), Dark Souls (Moonlight Greatsword) and hell even the Crucible Blade from doom. It also adds custom bosses (Like the Returning Champion and Fallen Icon [which has a second phase])
I tried this a few days ago and I really enjoyed playing with it, but at least right now it's not very suitable for a stable minecraft vanilla. It reminded me also a lot of Astemir's Forestcraft

You should try ~SCORCHED GUNS 2~ they have awesome designs. I also really liked "Happiness is a Warm Gun", models, they really feel Vanilla++ in my opinion.

i played with this mod, and the spear is actually op, it oneshots full diamond armor, and is very cheap to make
where it really shines is in boss design and the structures being unbreakable forcing you to explore and dodge traps
