    There comes a time when a person reaches a certain level in their career when they should chill and allow others to shine. I think Eddie is such a person. He doesn't need to be hooping and hollering to prove his worth. We from his Era know who he is and if he decides he wants to get back out there, his loyal fans including myself will be there. Long live Eddie Murphy!!!

      @@blacqdiamond6670 “Eddie Murphy trash”? I’m yet to see a stand up act that can fuck with Delirious. Most don’t even compare to RAW. He’s one of the GOATS. DL Hughley is talking shit and can suck a dick. If Notorious BIG was still alive but not rapping he’d still be considered the fucking GOAT. Eminem is considered one of the GOATS by many and still would be long after he has made his last song and still lives, so that analogy of a bird not being a bird if it doesn’t fly anymore or a shark not being a shark if it doesn’t swim does not really work when discussing artists. Give Eddie his dues. He’s still a GOAT. Every one of the SNL legends that live will tell you that, with conviction.

      DL's response is one the most asinine things I've ever heard. "If you don't do it anymore, then you're not that or the greatest" Then, by this standard, is MJ not the greatest basketball player, Tom Brady not the greatest quarterback or football player, Tiger not the greatest golf player, Serena not the greatest female tennis player? STFU! If we're talking about legacy, his comments are void and moot. If you're talking about being compared based on current body of work or current stand-ups, then it's not fair to place him in this conversation to be rated because he doesn't do this anymore. However, let's be clear, while I'm not an Eddie Murphy fan, let him come back and do a stand up routine. He will fuk all of them up and they know it. When it comes to being the "GOAT" of anything, this argument being made by Katt and DL about actively practicing the craft is irrelevant. The GOAT conversation is about who did what while they were active. You can't penalize someone for not still being active 30 years later, unless you're using it as a deciding factor to pick someone over him who HAS been active for 40+ years. It's like saying Jordan isn't the GOAT because he's not still in the NBA it makes no sense.

    • @sstelevision6376
      @sstelevision6376 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@pilldabest You're making a different argument so it appears what I said went over your head. DL is saying you're not what you don't do anymore. He asked would you want a lawyer that doesn't practice law anymore defending you on a big case? That scenario and analogy is irrelevant because the GOAT debate is about what they did during their reign. It compares people from different eras. Greatest "OF ALL TIME". Whether or not they're active at the time of the discussion holds no weight. If you want to make a separate argument that only 2 stand-up specials can't make you the GOAT that's fine but that's not what DL or Katt said. And a counter to that alternate argument is "Comedy" isn't just stand-up, and Eddie one of the few comedians to dominate stand-up, TV, and movies. I'm not even saying Eddie IS the GOAT, but just that it seems people don't know how the GOAT conversation actually works.

    Eddie Murphy started as a comedian and then opened up a new lane for comedians by starring in movies and excelling in those roles. He might not be the 🐐, but he’s one of the goats of comedy. Without him starring in movies like “Trading Places”, and “Beverly Hills Cop”, you don’t have people like Kevin Hart, and so forth getting the chances today to star in movies.

    Eddie's legacy is set in stone. The ultimate bench mark for a stand up is there specials. You can make an argument Raw and Delirious are the two best stand up specials of all time. And Eddie did those specials in his early to mid 20's. There is no other stand up that can say that. What Eddie did at that age dwarfs what 99 percent of the comedians in any era including Katt have done.

That would be like saying Simone Biles has to keep doing gymnastics in order to be considered the best or a contender for that status. This is the age of video, and he did it long enough (didn't just jump in and jump out for a few months or years). The jokes do hold up. Give Eddie his due. He started comedy as a child like Dave Chappell. He was successful right away but kept working. Made enough $ to move on and explore/excel at the things that resonated with him as a man (acting and music...travel and family, and whatever else he's been up to all this time since leaving stand-up).

Eddie is held to a higher regard becuase he changed what stand ups earned at the time …he defined stardom…he took comedians to the top.

    Of course Eddie is not the best NOW. Nobody is saying that. But his body of work is legendary. From SNL to stand up he owned the 80’s. And what’s lesss talked about is his achievements in Cinema. He’s been a part of some of the best comedies throughout the 80’s 90’s and even 00’. He moved on from stand up and made even more acting. It’s called progression. Nobody wants to be on the road doing the comedy circuit forever. Most comedians dream is to use comedy as a vessel into acting and movie roles. Nobody has it done that better than Eddie Murphy.

This shit is coming off as jealousy and an axe to grind.

      @@hobb125 You have a slight point but you're still saying it wrong. The point you make that is correct is that when most people label someone the GOAT their position usually has a generational bias. For instance in Football (Soccer) people that grew up in the 60s and 70s would generally say Pele is the GOAT, 80s would say Maradona is the GOAT and nowadays the vote is generally divided between Messi and Christiano Ronaldo (I have to be specific because there is another Ronaldo). Anyway, each generation usually has who they consider the GOAT and they will argue with you to hell and back that their choice is better than the choices from different generations. What you are saying is slightly different but like I said you're saying it wrong. You are saying you can't say anyone is the GOAT because you didn't witness the choices from the generations before you, you can only say someone is the Greatest Of Your Generation. This is quite an admirable position to have because truly if you weren't there it might be difficult to understand the impact a choice from an older generation had for them to be considered by that generation as the GOAT. But please believe me it is inherently wrong to say the GOAT of my generation. You either consider someone the GOAT or you don't irrespective of generation. A better way to say what you're trying to say is so and so is the GOAT in my opinion based on my generational bias. Sorry the reply is so long

So I mean no disrespect to him. I even met him once in Kansas City. He couldn't have been any nicer. Although you are what you are now may be true that doesn't mean one can't still be considered the best to ever do it years after they stop. Michael Jordan may be what he is now, but he's still arguably the best to ever play the game of basketball even 25 years later. Eddie may not be the greatest of all time, but despite his lack of multiple specials his minimal content is some of the best ever created. Eddie Murphy is the GOAT, he brought all the great Blk comedians together in Harlem Nights. He is so skilled, and he is the 1 that popularized comedians doing multiple roles in their own show. Martin didn’t do it until he did it, Tyler perry, Chapelle, none of them did it until he did it. He was a killer on Saturday night live. I don’t care what anyone says. EDDIE is the GOAT. Coming to America was 1 of the funniest movies I have ever seen. That miss blk awareness pageant scene still makes me laugh. It’s always .the ppl that are not as good that want to criticize, Hughley is not even as funny as Harvey or Cedrick.

    So the Pac/Biggie conversation is irrelevant, going by Hughley's logic. What about actors? I consider Robert Deniro/Al Pacino to be up there as well, but according to Hughley, they need to be putting out Goodfellas level of movies TODAY to stay in those GOAT talks. How about architecture? I consider Frank Lloyd Wright to be one of the absolute best architects, but because he's not able to put things in the modern-day, (he's dead, after all) those talks suddenly vanish?
    I genuinely hate conversations like this because, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. These are all opinions, and everything is subjective. These aren't helpful to anyone, and are about as useful as "who would win in a fight? batman or superman?".
    For the record, Eddie Murphy may not be the absolute best, but he's in the top 5, without a doubt. He has some absolute classic sets and is shown love by everyone, all the time. That should be enough.

      Didn’t you kinda argue against yourself you mentioned a dead architect but PAC and Biggie are dead they can’t put out music. His argument was if you completely stop actors and artists still put out work it’s just not as good as before. There’s some exceptions but I mostly agree with that argument.

    • @0hMyGandhi
      @0hMyGandhi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@itinavarait That was my point and something Hughley seemed to hint at: The only way to maintain GOAT status from a _historicial_ point of view is to create something amazing and die soon after.
      That seems almost comically unfair.

    • @0hMyGandhi
      @0hMyGandhi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Kirbystare1992 That was my exact point. Biggie and PAC can't defend their respective titles because they aren't alive.
      I think the concept of having to maintain GOAT status by putting out masterclass levels of work until the day you die is absolutely ridiculous.
      Because the question will inevitably turn to not just the quality of the work, but the _quantity_ as well.
      There will always be detractors who think that if your first album is successful, that it still could be considered a "fluke".
      If you were to jump to other genres of music, I'd argue that System of A Down is one of, if not the greatest modern day "rock/metal" band, even though they don't have a laundry list of a discography.
      Kevin Hart seems to put out a speciial every week and he's nowhere near as talented as Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryer or George Carlin.
      The argument over "whose the best?" just needs to die. Everyone should gun for number one, but expecting any one person or entity to give out some sort of an official list or award is just a waste of time.
      Even then, There are people who don't agree that an award can act as a suitable symbol of accomplishment. Meryl Streep has won more awards than almost anyone else, yet (generally speaking) She's not the first to come to mind when speaking about GOAT actors.
      Long story short: GOAT talks are trivial water-cooler conversations that act as clickbait and are often meant to provoke a reaction to gain views. Nothing more, nothning less.
