I got this laptop about 3 months ago. I would just like to say if you are looking to upgrade laptops and your old one was also about $500 with an intel i3 i5 and most i7s this laptop is definitely and upgrade! I will probably never buy anything with an intel chip again until there prices drop, this thing is an absolute steal! Even the integrated graphics beat out intel 620 uhds by like 2x as much. It is actually crazy how much better this thing is then anything in the price range nowadays let alone 2+ years ago.
Edit: they released a new version I believe for same price but better specs! check out the version of this with a Ryzen 5 4500u its some how even better (:

Had this horrible thing about three months, it never left my desk, working from home. First the plus point - it's not very heavy. Now the rest - it eats power, had to reduce cpu performance to get the fan off. It takes about 25 seconds to connect to wifi even though it's three feet from the router. Bluetooth mouse takes over 15 seconds to connect. Now, go to it this morning and the case has cracked near the left hinge. Guess what folks, it's not under warranty for a cracked case. Last Lenovo I'll ever buy.

I just got this and the problem I have is that a black screen often appears, it usually lasts for a few seconds. Very irritating. Do you know about this issue? If so do you know how to fix it?
No i am not aware of this problem. Please make sure you don't have a bad unit. Update the firmwares, drivers, etc. Also make sure Chipset is overheating.

Can you make notes on PDFs for school? With COVID I'll be using my laptop a lot. On Amazon I found a listing with AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor for the same price. That's better of course..I'm not tech savvy

Watching this on my Flex 14! I absolutely recommend this pc for people with mid power use, and even some medium settings gaming.

Maddy McNeal actually it depends on where you buy it from! The WiFi connection problems occur in only the 8GB models but not all of them. The 12gb one (which I have) have no issues!

Is The laptop compatible with AMD freesync??
I bought the version of this laptop with 8GB of RAM, and realized quickly that not only does the integrated Vega GPU eat 2GB of said RAM, the remaining 6GB I had left gets eaten up VERY QUICKLY by internet browsers. With this being the case, I decided to upgrade the RAM in this laptop, and started hunting around TH-cam for a tear-down video. I appreciate this video a lot, as it's the only one that I could find that actually opened up the bottom panel.
I did want to note some discrepancies in the video.
1. The bottom panel is a lot easier to pop off than the video leads you to believe. After removing the screws, I was able to pop off the bottom panel without any plastic tools, using just my fingernails, and without hurting my fingers. Starting from the corners next to the hinges like the video shows, you kind of just push away from the monitor until it starts coming undone. The last time I tried to take apart my Nexus 5X, I could have chopped my finger tips off trying to use my fingernails to pry apart the two halves of the case. Taking off the bottom of the Flex 14API was comparatively pleasant.
2. There's only one RAM slot, not two like the video states. My particular model that I purchased from MicroCenter has 1 4GB RAM stick with 4 GB soldered directly to the motherboard somewhere.
3. The metal cover on the RAM is super easy to pull off. It looks hard, but it doesn't lock on or anything, there's just a bunch of metal clips that hold it in place.
While I was a little disappointed that the video didn't actually show the RAM slot, I'm still super appreciative that you took the time to video taking it a part for the greater good of everyone! THANKS! : )

How are browsers eating up 6gb of ram? I use multiple windows(an average of 3 tabs on each) of firefox and edge on my 4gb laptop without much lag

Watching just videos on Netflix or TH-cam, how good is the battery. I want to get this as a gift for a friend that has a disability and she wants to start drawing stuff, how is the drawing on this? Pretty accurate? If you can run a movie for 1 hour from 100% with only WiFi on, screen set to low brightness, power saver settings all the way down, how much percent does it drop from 100% in 1 hour. It will be a good way to kind of get a judgement on the battery life. Thanks in advance :)

I have confirmed that this laptop can play wow classic on classic settings at an avg of 82-85 FPS. Probably 50-55 when raiding or high pop.

Only 82-85? I just bought this exact model and am getting 130-150fps when not in high pop and around 70 when Ironforge is crowded. Did you change any graphics settings at all or just leave them at the default “Classic” (3)?
Does it get hot/noisy?
@@banshee1133 I mean you can definitely hear the fans spinning, but nothing like what other people have described at all. I also haven't had it get hot to the touch either. Haven't monitored the temps but doesn't feel hot. It is also great because if you have an external mouse and keyboard, you can actually flip it to where the keyboard is face down and the fans are face up and in that orientation it is even more of an absolute beast.
I'm watching this video with my lenovo flex 14, and I have to tell you, it's an AMAZING laptop, there's nothing wrong about it. Good material quality, design, thermals, a good screen, a pretty decent graphics card (I can run cs:go at ultra settings, 1080p at 40fps) and a pen included.
It's simply a premium laptop made of plastic. Also, the battery life isn't the best. I could get 5 hours, but will be enough for most users.
A great price, highly recommend it over all its competitors.

@@illyelk1720 yup, you can play most of the games in low resolutions, and some games like csgo or Minecraft in ultra settings. If you are looking for not gaming laptop that can play some games, it's the right choice

Hey I have the Same model but i Encounter thermal issues alone while playing League of Legends i reach 100°Celcius and Thermal Throttling itself down to 400Mhz the same while doing Cinebench R15 und aida64 Stress test. My Score on Cinebench was only Like 150 points. I Just bought Mine 3 days ago so i dont know what is wrong should i sent it back?
I would recommend getting the 12gb version as 2gb of ram is allocated to the gpu.

Great review! I was wondering how the battery life for this unit is? I've been reading reviews and people are saying that it doesn't last much longer than 4 hours even though it is advertised as an 8 hour battery.
Our test unit lasted more than 6 Hours. It depends your usage style. If you are doing some benchmarks, trying to play some games, etc.
You are correct, battery doesn't hold a charge very long. I returned mine as I had an older laptop that lasted just as long.

@@hebron141991 The Lenovo rep is 100% lying, you can change it with minimal effort and ypu won't ciod your warranty. I know Lenovo engineers are kicking themselves for not making a higher tier model to force people to spend more money and not soldering everything on the MB. Next year they'll "fix" that.

@@drzoidberg1 I think it can be swapped with same interface ssd for higher capacity but I don't think 2nd ssd can be added as there is no 2nd M.2 slot.
This will play older games just fine on manageable settings... It'll even play GTA V pretty well at higher settings if you tweak some stuff.

About to buy this.. in my cart as we speak I just wish it did not have stickers next to the keyboard. Would be nice to find a laptop without em but maybe I shouldn't make such a big deal out of this. They are ugly stickers tho.

Don't put in another stick of RAM because it won't run in dual channel then, which means you will actually be losing performance. Ryzen CPU and integrated GPUs need dual channel in order to run as best as possible.

@@crazydude9496 It is but Ryzen works best with dual channel memory, especially for gaming. We're talking up to 25% gains depending on the game. So it's better (imperative, even) to have it running in dual channel mode for best performance. And as far as I know the GPU takes up that much only during graphically intensive tasks. When it's doing basic Windows things it takes up a lot, lot less.

@@crazydude9496 Depends on the game. You can find game-specific benchmarks on TH-cam for Vega 6/8/10.
this cost around 1000 CAD here in Canada. Thats more than 300cad extra even after the currency conversion. Can you suggest a way to get it here for similar price.

Was looking at a ThinkPad (L13 model) with an Intel i5 for almost double the price of this. This might actually beat the ThinkPad in performance, so I suppose I could probably do without some of the features of the ThinkPad. I know that barrel plug AC adapter enables fast charging, but do you know if it can charge through the USB C port, even if slower?

Deal Unboxing! I read a review about this lap in my country (Mexico), This guy bought three same laptops and he had the same problem in the three laptops, the Wi-Fi card started to have problem.

450$ ... holy shit ... I'm browsing all over the place here in Belgium and this config is 750€ on a C340 model with 4Go of ram... I feel cheated x), it's like they send us all of the unsold old american hardware, swap the keyboards and put a heavy price tag on the darn things :p

@@banshee1133 I don't have a USB C mouse to test it with but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I bought a USB C Hub which works just fine through the USB C port. It has two regular USB ports as well. The laptop is really quiet unless you start playing a game or something in which case the fans will speed up to keep it cool. I love this laptop so far, I use the pen along with OneNote to do my math homework with.
Hunter Lee you do have the the flex 14 with ryzen processor? (Not Intel). Because the Intel one says the usb c is for data only, I'm not sure if a mouse would work for that. So opening like multiple browser tabs like more than 10 and playing video, make it noisy? I get bothered by the noise but I don't really play games.
@@banshee1133 Yes I have the model with the Ryzen 5 3500u CPU with Vega 8 graphics. I think what they mean by data only is that it won't charge through the USB C port. Peripherals such as mice and keyboards transmit data through USB ports. I've never really noticed the fan randomly speeding up unless I was doing something particularly taxing. I opened 10 random web pages (including Facebook, Reddit, and AccuWeather), started a 1080p TH-cam video, opened up Steam, Discord, and WhatsApp, and started scrolling through Facebook. The fan speed up for a moment while loading about 4 pages at once then immediately went silent once it was finished.

I'm having connection issues trying to use this laptop in my bedroom on the second floor. Our router is in our living room about 20-30 feet away, on the first floor of our duplex. We will sporadically have to refresh the page while streaming content from Netflix, and the ping command shows packets will be regularly dropped to various sites for some reason.
When I use the laptop on the first floor, it seems to work fine though.
@@mojavikizashi5138 Then it means your router is not able to provide consistent wireless connection signal or you have connection interference in your bedroom. If the laptop works fine on the first floor then it means the wireless card is working fine. Try moving the router and check signal strength.
