- Sort of a TAS/playthrough, I guess it's not the best but I thought I'd put mine up. Tool assisted because there's nobody that could or would want to beat this game without cheating.

IF you complete this game, you can accomplish anything in life
After all these years, that music played in the back of my mind. After hearing it here, I took a long stroll into nostalgic bliss.
Might be the only NES rendition of the Russian national anthem. And they did a great job with it.

That intro is pretty bad ass for an NES game
So are the cut scenes (taken directly from the film0. Too bad the game itself didn't match this quality.
Remember in the movie when they had to blow their way out of a harbour full of opening and closing docks and platforms, dodging mines placed in their own harbour and midget submarines shooting at them?
That was my favorite part of the movie, actually.
Almost as much as I liked when Marty McFly was throwing bowling balls at people in "Back to the Future."
The music is realy creepy.
It makes me feel better in that I wasn’t alone feeling this game was balls to the wall HARD! I never made it past that damn at the end of the first level.
A friend of mine beat this, without cheating. Hes not been the same since.

I beat this one in high school. I was obsessed with the film at the time. Hard ass game...and that last level was just the icing on the hardcore cake.
Always thought it was weird that the sub looks nothing like the Typhoon/Akula class that RO belonged to

There were hard games, and then there was this. It was designed to kill you. If the almost impossible to navigate levels didn't get you, then the homing missiles would. That's if you managed to survive on a power supply that ran out faster than a Game Gear. Oh and forget fighting your way through. You'll run out of weapons long before you reach the end.
I only found at today that that final level existed.... and is entirely different from the rest of the game!
simonpreston I remember beating this game having to use a Game Genie (you know, back when those were actual physical things) using Infinite or 99 subs or something like that. But it didn't help in the sabotage stage. Which I never was able to defeat... until now. Well, until I made the video at least.
Many years ago I beat the final stage for my step father when he found out that the infinite lives cheat doesn't work on that level. Man that was hard.
@@L1011Widebody man this brings back so many memories! I had this on my Family Game console (which I guess is similar to Game Genie?). I remember it was difficult AF! I couldn't have been any older than 10 or 11 at the time but I managed to get to the Sabotage level without any cheat codes but could never figure out how to solve that damn level!!
Considering a Typhoon class submarine is 175m long, the skeleton at the ocean floor at 16:21 is the biggest animal ever discovered.
Not only that but Wikipedia states the Red October is even *larger*, at 198m length. I don't know where they get that from (I haven't read the book, and I haven't seen the movie in years), but damn! (or the Russian equivalent of 'damn')
This was the first video game I ever played!
My story : I was with my dad at a flea market and some dude was selling NES cartridges. I initially picked up one with Tiny Toons , dad gave him the money and we went on our way. After 30 min or so i changed my mind, i pissed off my dad because we had to go back and i chose this game instead because i liked the picture on the cartridge with the submarine.
We went home, game sucked major ass, i sucked even more for not passing the 3rd level and dad was chill watching football with a cold beer. Love you dad !
This game was an utterly joyless slog!
Классно! У меня она почему-то на консоли медленнее идёт. Наверное потому что NES PAL-региона (но со снятой региональной защитой), а картридж NTSC (из Канады заказывал).
man that is one big ass engine-room for a submarine not that mention that they have 30+ cooks on board; also nice to know the commies have secret underwater bases; oh well at least in this version the Captain wasn't lying to his crew when he told them they were going to the tropics for some R&R : D
+Bob Montague 8-bit submarines are surprisingly roomy.

I actually don't remember if me and family completed sabotage. But going that far in this game was already difficult

My parents bought me this for christmas one year, I was like 8 years old and could never last over 30 mins in this game. It's still sitting in my old bedroom at their place in a drawer I crammed it in out of frustration years and years ago lol.
Or when Sean Connery had to navigate the "Crystal Zone"?

Damn so difficult game.. I used to at when I was a kid.. I reached once the crystal zone. I didn't know there was only another level
I bet if this game had better music Capcom or Sunsoft -style it would've been a classic. The gameplay is fine. Simple but different from other NES shooters.

14:00 I don't know how my 7-8 year old ass stumbled onto this when I was playing this, BUT... With this aircraft carrier boss, if you killed yourself just after destroying the ship, you would start the next level with 99 lives. It's a trick that I forgot how to do, but it was how I was able to beat the game the first time lol

Worst game ever. I remember buying this game as a kid because I've traveled with my parents, brought the NES but forgot all my games home. I cried the crap out of me and had nightmares with this horrible music
