A masterpiece from one of the great bands from the golden era of rock, the 70/80s. The quality of these bands, like Magnum, shows in how many of them are still creating music 40 or 50 years into their careers.
Their song Les Morts Dansant is one of the most beautiful and poetic songs ever written about someone being executed. The singer, Bob Catley, also has his own solo band, and has appeared on albums by Avantasia and Ayreon as well.
I'm so glad you and Dolly loved Magnum They are absolutely awesome, I've seen them many times live in different periods, last time 2018, their massively underrated and because your music lovers, If you get into this band you won't be disappointed, they have many great albums. 🤘❤ Thank you for selecting them.
Firstly thank you for reacting to Magnum. One of the most underrated bands to come out of the UK. They have such a back catalogue of classics and are still releasing brilliant albums today. They are releasing a new album in January 2022 which I have already pre-ordered. Please more Magnum. Actually my TH-cam name is a Magnum classic.
Magnum are one of my favourite bands ever, first seen them when I was 12 years old, going to see them this Sunday in Southampton, listen to there early stuff like reborn.
Swedish fan here ,LOVE your reaction ! This whole concert is/was on VHS-tape which I bought at that time and ALL songs are great. You guys should abselutely react to "Soldier of the line" LIVE from 2005 ! You wont regret it..Hugs from Stockholm,Sweden.
WOW, thanks guys for taking the time to react to such a great song. Thanks for such a positive reaction and showing the band some love. The band are still going strong today and there is a massive back catalogue after all these years to check out. Thanks again for th reaction video. Alos so nice to see so many positive comments. There is still soooo much love for this band. Cheers, Al Barrow ( Magnums bass player for 18 or so years)
Hi Jon I'm not worthy - these lads have been my favourite ever band for over 30 years. This an incredible salutation that you given it and I hope you have been converted. I went to see them live recently - they still put above one hell of a show on even if they don't play this one at current. The lead singer (Bob) and guitarist (Tony) are still up there now giving it big, even though both now in their mid 70s. Once again thanks very much for this mate. Tasting a band you haven't heard before, via a 10 and a half minute long song is a very tall order. All the best for your page and look forward to seeing what else you react to in the future. DAVE (Sheffield, UK)
Underrated and super nice band. Most of the songs written by the mighty tony " the hat" Clarkin and the voice of the always "apple picking" Bob Catley, the rest of the guys were awesome too. More Magnum please. Thanks.
Cool a reaction to Magnum, the band I listened to in my teenage years. it's still great music from a bygone era. Bob Catley has an incredible voice and also participates in the Avantasia supergroup.
A great reaction to a very underrated band and one that is worth checking out more. A couple of suggestions to start with would be 'Kingdom of Madness' and 'On a Story tellers Night'.
One of my favorite bands, totally underrated. Wings of heaven, Vigilante, On a Storyteller's Night, The Eleventh Hour, Chase the Dragon, Goodnight L.A. and the spirit live are the best albums.
Went to see them back in about 96 in Birmingham, when the concert finished they invited the whole audience to a club and they played cover songs for about an hour and a half and everyone got a Christmas card 🎉. What a fantastic band.
Magnum are monstrously talented & innovative cult band with an epic discography. Front man Bob Catley sings with such conviction and is arguably one of rocks’s all legends. Lead & rhythm guitarist Tony Clarkin is an absolute wizard which is hardly surprising given they were hewn from the same UK rock/ metal anvil as Black Sabbath & Led Zeppelin. Infact in the 70’s they even supported and toured with Black Sabbath / Nuff said!!! 🤘😈👍
This is my all time favourite band! And it is about time someone has done a reaction to them! This is my favourite track. Next year is their 50th anniversary. 22 albums and still going strong! Take a listen to "Spin like a wheel" or " Rocking chair" There are hundreds to choose from plus their album covers are some of the best going!
Magnum played in my home town back in the 90s. As this was the era of grunge, alternate rock and crossover bands like Primus, our local newspaper didn't hesitate in describing them as past it, or the cliche "rock dinosaurs". Magnum were a band I got into quite young, so I was happy to go see them (and seeing as I was too young to get into many venues, and we didn't get many decent bands playing here, I would have gone even if I'd never heard them). Firstly, they were fucking amazing. To this day, I still say they were one of the best live bands I've ever seen. The musicianship was spot on, and Bob knows how to perform, not just sing. Secondly, for all the piss-taking in the local press about how they were no longer relevant, the hall was packed, and the audience were going nuts. Rumour has it that there were about 300 people more than was legally allowed in, from staff sneaking friends and family in because it was sold out.
Just thought I add this, as no one else has said it, the sing is about the horrors of World War 1 - People thought it would be 'fun' and had no ideas of the coming nightmare!
However the Maginot line is mentioned and it wasn't built until the 1930's. When Britain went to war with Germany in September 1939, it was not uncommon for the British people to hear, “It'll all be over by Christmas" ... I like to think it refers to all wars.
Glad you liked Magnum, another product of Birmingham's metal production line. Black Sabbath & Judas Priest got all the headlines, but Magnum were many people's favourites here.
Hi Guys just came across this as im a big fan of Magnum , i have been lucky enough to be at 3 concerts way back and they are amazing , i feel blessed that i had the chance to see them at Boston Lincolnshire , Lincoln Lincolnshire , and The NEC Birmingham all in the UK , yep im from the UK , The best album by far is called On a story tellers night and the main stream album is called Vigilate , if you get chance have a listen you wont be disappointed . Great channel ty
Yes, they were great way back then. Bob's voice is well and truly shot now and the keyboard player, Mark Stanway was, depending on who's telling the story, sacked/quirtafter 30 years. The drummer and bass player are also long gone.

Great band, totally overlooked.
Another criminally underrated band! Their music till this day is pretty dope, definitely worth a dive.

Magnificent majestic Magnum ....
Magnum are one of my favourite bands ever, first seen them when I was 12 years old, going to see them this Sunday in Southampton, listen to there early stuff like reborn.
Magnum finally getting some love. Massively underrated band.

You are not Magnum, and you never will be
Love Bob Catley's voice both in Avantasia and Magnum. On A Storyteller's Night by Magnum is a must hear!
He also sang with Ayreon.

Had the pleasure of meeting Bob's Mum at a Magnum gig at Birmingham NEC thirty-odd years ago. Lovely lady!
Thank you for doing. Magnum, such an underrated band. So many great albums, Thank you again. They are masters of their craft.
I saw these at UMIST in Manchester England in the 80s - remains a top 5 gig.
Cool a reaction to Magnum, the band I listened to in my teenage years. it's still great music from a bygone era.

Don't rule out Magnum II or Marauder.
Love this reaction, Magnum are the greatest band you’ve never heard of, seen them loads of times , they’re fantastic

You simply must check out any live version of Les Morts Dansant…..always brilliant
Masterpiece

R. I. P Tony clarken ❤️
R.I.P. Tony Clarkin 24/11/46 - 07/1/24..........
It's a Magnum tradition to have an Anti-war song on each album. This was from the Wings Of Heaven album. It's about World War One.
yet they mention the Maginot line witch is WW2
Indeed, work began on the Maginot line in 1928 and was completed by 1938.
Tony writes great songs but sometimes his history is a bit suspect.. That and his ego in not accepting songs from other members.
Yes I seen them when they supported whitesnake promoting kingdom of madness album in Cardiff student union they were the days
Rest in peace tony clarkin😎
They look like and sound like those old bands from the late 80’s like that band white snake I think that’s the band they remind me of
turning this song up to 11. Brilliant.
Glad you liked Magnum, another product of Birmingham's metal production line. Black Sabbath & Judas Priest got all the headlines, but Magnum were many people's favourites here.
For anyone that doesn't know, this is about British troops, being in the trenches during World War 1, studio version is also very powerful

In fairness, Bob's well into his 70s, and his voice is no worse than a lot of rock singers of similar age.
There is more good songs with Magnum !!!
Magnum was one of the world's best bands but had to stand in the shadow of about 10 other bands, some of which were actually worse !!!
Focus on the lyrics. You won't find better stories
