Sancho was immature and unprofessional. You know it's bad when Harry Maguire himself said that you need to apologise, the guy who's been a scapegoat for YEARS yet he didn't moan or complain when Ten Hag stripped the captaincy from him.
Ten Hag has tried the “arm around the shoulder” approach and that didn’t work, let him have a 3 month training camp mid season in Holland away from the media to rebuild his fitness and work on his mental health, Ten Hag was constantly asked questions about Sancho and always backed him or changed the subject. That approach didn’t work… by the sounds of it, he still doesn’t arrive on time for training or train properly, it's just sad man.

This moment reminds me of Arsenal’s situation with these top players with these Player Power ego’s. When the news occurred, I respected Ten Hag because Manchester United needs to have that togetherness that you see with the other big clubs without too many problems off the pitch. Because having these toxic like mentality will rub into the fans, the staff, and everyone affiliated with Manchester United. So the fact that Ten Hag is doing something different to many other United managers prior, I give him a lot of respect. If he wants to leave and you blocked it why are you not playing him and then going out of your way to criticise him. Asking a man for a public apology like that is just weird aswell because what does anyone gain from it at the end of the day? It just seems like a weird power trip from ten hag, if he handled it behind closed doors this could have all been avoided. With the mental health side of things, if ten hag gave him that time off for those reasons, why would you then go and open him up to public criticism like that? As someone who battles her mental health struggles almost daily, this has to be probably the best take on this situation I've seen yet. Yes, mental health is serious and it shouldn't be ignored, especially in a space as difficult as the sport where the mentality is either getting on with it or throwing your career away. As a red devil, I have seen players sink or swim with the weight of the badge and I can only imagine how hard it must be for the lad. However, you don't use mental health as an excuse. There's nothing I hate more than someone saying that they won't do something because of their mental health. That's proving yourself right. It's a self destructive mentality that will only put you into a downward spiral. And if Sacho continues to approach his problems like this, I fear they will only get worse and worse. I truly want what's best for the lad. And I'm sure Ten Hag, the rest of the United lads feel the same way. They want him to get better and improve but you can't do something like that without even trying. Thank you for making this one lad, it was a really personal one for me and I'm glad this perspective was put out there. You're a real one

That issue is between the manager and the player, not the press. Both their behaviours are far from good enough for a top club. Neither are being mature, and they both need to swallow their pride. People who think Ten Hag is completely in the right are a joke, and you don’t deserve anyone’s respect.

I suffer from mental health and support man united. What ETH did giving him 2/3 months out was 100% the right thing for him to get help and solve his issues. However, i agree that the manager is right. I want ETH to be ruthless with this squad. Too many players have got away with all sorts since SAF left. It needs a strong manager who stands by there decision. Sancho has just shown how immature he is and thinks he can get away with anything. For the club and for him, he needs to move on asap. Its harsh but you cant use mental health as a way out. You have to take some responsibility for your actions (staying up late, training, poor performances etc). Thats not down to mental health, its down to having the right attitude. My mental health is on and off, i deal with it the best i can, but i always work hard and have the right fighting attitude to overcome it... he needs to do the same!!

  • @waltdraper1

This is a weird take to me because you put the entire impetus of apology on Sancho instead of Ten Hag! It feels to me like you kept pointing out how easy it would be for Sancho to apologize, but I feel it would be just as easy for Ten Hag to apologize or at the very least put their personal feelings aside and continue working professionally. I think in the month since this video we’ve seen that Ten Hag, like every other human being, makes bad decisions and should be able to be challenged/held accountable for those decisions.
From an outside perspective I actually think Man U’s problem isn’t player power over manager power, it’s individual power over systemic power. The criticism Ten Hag is getting now, rightly, is that he’s made a bunch of transfer decisions that haven’t exactly panned out, but that’s because they’re prioritizing his individual power and desires over a system I think. As a Liverpool fan I think about what it no one had been around to challenge Klopp about not wanting Salah. And that’s one of the best managers of all time making a mistake, as all managers do, but Liverpool, and other well run clubs like City, Brighton, etc. I think prioritize the institution/system over any individuals which includes the manager.
I think that’s why ETH feels a bit doomed from the jump actually is that I think you’re right, he’s expected to be this central authority figure, but I think that SAF do everything, one man is the system doesn’t work in the modern era.
Especially from Sancho’s perspective I think the “proving ten Hag wrong” could be letting his other decisions play out and then going to another club, cuz he’ll still have plenty of suitors, I think given his age, history and ability. But I agree I think that could be avoided if either apologized but to put the impetus entirely on Sancho to apologize is weird to me.
Last thing, especially in light of all the Dele stuff, I think, you’re right, without enough information to pass judgement, maybe we should try to pass less judgement. But I respect how well you put together your arguments and opinions in this video, even if I disagree with them!🙏🏽

  • @jacobcowden4549
    @jacobcowden4549 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I still don’t understand why this is a one way street. If it’s immature of Sancho for not apologizing and doing what’s best for the club, then why is it supposed to be professional for Ten Hag to publicly declare an ultimatum. If it’s unprofessional to bring things public then it goes both ways.
If Ten Hag is misrepresenting Sancho’s effort, then why would he apologize? If he apologizes he gets to continue to ride the bench and enforces that Ten Hag was telling the truth. If Ten Hag is being dishonest then Sancho apologizing is not actually what’s best for the club. Just because you’re the manager doesn’t mean that your decisions are more important than the well-being of the club.

Sancho’s self-rating is not relevant. If you cannot align your values and perception with the boss, then you’d better hope you’re good enough to build the whole team around you, otherwise you’re out.
I might agree with you more if this was the start of it. But this is after a months-long paid holiday. I suffered burnout, and if my employer allowed me that, I’d be pretty grateful and loyal afterwards. Ten Hag is running out of tactics to motivate him

I honestly don't care about the morality of who's right or wrong, but the results and effects of that action. The fact is that Ten Haag's public flaming of Sancho enflamed the situation and made it worse. Before that happened, Sancho still made some positive contributions like those goals against Arsenal and Leeds just very recently. Maybe he would have improved his training performance irregardless and gotten back closer to his Dortmund levels if the manager had not chosen to enflame tensions.
Perhaps you should have looked closer at Man Utd's performances this season. Sancho is far from the only Man Utd player underperforming. At a certain level, that's down to the manager, his training methods, and what he's getting out of his players.

The only way for him to revive his career is leave Utd because I rather have him excel elsewhere than harming his career at Man Utd. My thoughts: I think he was one of the best wingers before his move to united. It was a mistake to go to a club that was under so much scrutiny, even from past players, about disciplinary issues. A club that had a bad record of signing big players that failed to live up to expectations.
I will say, though, that at the time solskaer seemed to be handling united in a somewhat good direction, I do believe sancho would have/ could have played an important role in the squad that had just come 2nd the season before but the pressure to sign cr7 seems to be where everything fell off. Signing ronaldo back was a panic buy as they all did not want to lose one of their best ever players to city, and I think that contributed to not only their downfall but sanchos displacement.

I agree with alot you stated.
Although at somepoint you have to ask something about the clubs culture being inherently bad. They had alot of players who had problems there, Lingaard and Sancho reportedly had/have mental health issues. I saw a interview from Kagawa said when he was at Manchester it sucked the live out of him. Many players went there recently with high potential they couldnt live up to or had issues outside the pitch. I guess you can look at every case individually but at somepoint you should be asking if something about a clubs soroundings and culture is just toxic. Or you just acquire the wrong character of players for the culture.
In this case I think maybe Sancho should try go back to Dortmund.

Excellent take. Man United does have a player issue. They always have. The addition of EtH to this team was a breath of fresh air, especially how the Ronaldo nonsense went down. It was clear there was finally a manager taking charge. I don’t want to comment on Sancho because I think he’s genuinely mentally ill, and that concerns me. But I can say that I agree with EtH, he’s got the history of supporting players like Sancho during tough times but at the end of the day he’s the manager of one of the biggest franchises in sports. He’s going to look out for the betterment of the team rather than the individual player.

All the talent in the world but doesn't have the mentality required. It's happened to loads of players and will continue to. I wish Jadon would reconsider his future in this profession but if he's not happy at Manchester United or even being a footballer that's fair enough. As you said he is probably very sensitive to criticism, even from a supportive Erik ten Hag. I've been in that situation recently with my own career choice, I'm thankful for a change also. Maybe being a professional footballer and having to do all the duties and discipline isn't for him but he can't say he wasn't given a fair chance and on lots of occasions.

I don't see a improvement, too. Last season they overachieved this season we will see the truth

@@inthelittlelightning How? 😂 Varane js a milti time CL winner and was injured the previous season, it is normal for him to "improve". Wan Bisaka is literally playing the same way ever since he joined United, but people decide each year how good or bad he is. Bruno had the worst year stat wise last season. Rashford tied his league best from 3-4 years ago. Lindelof is a bench player. That is exactly what I am talking about, you people are talking as if he's made some kind of unspeakable miracle.

@@iliyanstamenkov4033 he did third placed and a trophy after man utds worst premier League season in history when people were talking of utd finishing maybe 5th or 6th talking of how it is a rebuild and ten hag needs time. Reduced player power as well and mentality improved bar a few games (Brentford, city Liverpool)

It’s difficult. The problem is now in society anyone going through a hard time be it pressure at work or judged to have poor performance is classed as being “anxiety” or “depressed” and work wise it has become the new “bad back”. Sickness claims for the above have gone through the roof and due to the backlog of referrals to mental health services people know they can get away with it.
Our services are buckling and we send many away because they are just going through periods of struggle, be it financial, family or otherwise. What this also does is the ones that REALLY need are help are stuck in the same queue so it’s a double edged sword.
While it is great the awareness is out there, as a professional, it’s hard to see the patients that really need the help because of the time wasters sadly.
I wonder if Sancho would have had a different story if he hadn’t seen the outpouring for Dele Alli weeks before 🤷🏻‍♂️. Who knows.

What I hate the most about players who get paid a lot, have everything spoon fed, show no effort for the club as long as theyre getitng paid, and then use Mental Health as an excuse
