- Kick Out the Jams is the first album by MC5, released in 1969. It was recorded live at detroit's grande ballroom over two nights, devil's night and halloween, 1968. In 2003, the album was ranked number 294 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
So many bands out there owe their legacy to this track & band.
Saw them at Lincoln Park the day the of The Chicago Democratic Convention, we were about 30 feet away from the band, there was a big hassle to get electricity but finally they got it ans opened with this................first time I ever saw them and the rest is history for those of you born 1968 or sooner look it up........this was the real deal, no one wanted to follow their act, it was that hard........
Still ahead of their time. Another reason why The Rock N Roll HOF should be in Detroit.
Definition of rock n roll :) I'm a 15 year old guitarist and I am hooked:D
My dad's band was one of the openers for them this night at the Grande Ballroom.
thass some cool points for you lol
I was there, 17 and in the front row.
Very cool
crazy... simply the best song ever.... my good
Are you ready to testify !!!!!!
Best start to a song ever
I'm reading a book called Please Kill Me, and its about how punk rock was created. It mentions this band and album for a while, so I decided to listen to this song. It was not what I was expecting, it's fucking KICK-ASS!!!
I gotta agree. There is something about this version that differs from the original LP release that I've been listening to since 1969. It sounds beefed up or remixed. But this version is a knockout!
THIS SONG MAKE YOU WANNA DRIVE REAL CRAZY,AND REAL FAST.
If I ever start up a radio station, this would be the first song I would play on it, unedited.
Rockstar needs to have this in the next GTA
BUN. Bear up North, 2012!!!!Kick out the JAMS. Cyburbia!
I just missed buying the uncensored version. Thanks for playing this, just what I was looking for!!! YAYYY!
Oh hell yeah. Never heard this album before, but I'm so glad I clicked.
Love hearing again!
That's one of the most badass intros ever
that intro would make a good ringtone.
@rockshred5150 i mean Kick out the Jams, not the '30th anniversary of punk' thing
No problem It was a kick ass album for that time period Still listen to it after all these years
2022 a Rockear 🤪🤪
This fucking song is still incredibly fucking AWESOME! Kick out the fucking jams!
Hola de Bogota
1976 music played in 1968.
Best version!!!!
I have this on vinyl, uncut and uncensored, from 1969! Only cost me 15 dollars!
Fuckin ROCK N ROLL GOLD!!!!!!
OUTSTANDING. I would love to hear your stories! Curse my date of birth!!
I was about to say- they had songs this speed metal-esque in 1969?
Now I know the truth. The had songs this speed metal-esque in 1960.
I love old music....
This is a pretty intense recording. it was originally recorded for a french tv show in 1972, and right at 1:20, the band goes into a song called "empty Heart" you can hear, that on this recording the beginning of the song is put back at that spot.
its so hard to think they were playing in 68 while you bands like the byrds, jefferson airplane, mammas and the pappas..then here come the mc5
+ksr9t the motherfuckers is the original, the brothers and sisters is the censored version.
Where did u find this version?
thank god for the live album. lets name off a few great live albums; live/dead-grateful dead, live at fillmore east, allman brothers, etc. etc.
comment if i left any out, which im certain i have.
i can picture richard nixon sitting behind his desk in the oval office reciting that opening line. perfectly clear.
I first heard as a Blue Oyster Cult tune...learned about MC5 recently!
awesome. RATM is my favorite band, but this version(original) is the greatest song ever
if i go to a store to buy the album, it won't be a censored version anymore will it? have you got it?
It will NOT be censored.
awesome
RIP Davis
very good
@joedalton155 the song wouldn't be what it is if it was recorded in a studio.
@TheStrangeSound nice!!!
Cranked this at a bush party everyone loved me
i did the same thing two years later.
0 dislikes sweet. This song makes me wanna start riots, breaking stuff, and driving real fast in my car.

And I just did the same thing - not only to my wife, but my neighbors walking their children and dogs past my window! Kick out the jams!
0:06 to 0:13......AWESOME
Xena's episode sent me here!!!
this song also has to be in a street race movie or something
Jello Biafra talked about this, or I would not otherwise have heard of this
***** Black Flag covered this?
i love this song, it almost makes me want to get in a fight
Pearl Jam's Cover of this song at their Seattle show brought me here, anyone else?
Rage has been playing it for years.
Being at the actual show when it was recorded brought me here to listen to it for the thousandth time. LOL
I guess it's all relative to what you consider "playing it for years." Tom Morello was 4 when the jam was recorded.
I have the unceasored album Reason for the question about the censored album
rage against the machine cover?....loving, faithful, proper heavy. Right in the spirit of the original. love it.
+a j Carter You're joking I hope. This came out over 30 years before Rage Against the Machine made a song by the same name. 1969... crazy
this is defenitly a song to where you loose your shit and start hardcore fighting somebody and throwing large shit at eachother haha
This is NOT the same track from the original Kick Out the Jams album. It's either been re-recorded or it's from a different live performance.
is there a studio version of kick out the jams???
@randypan71 No it's not. This is also live for a tv show. The original was also live but with a audience ect.
"KICK OUT THE JAMS CONCHETUMAAREE!"
what ever happend to these guys? i cant find any info about them
This recording isn't from this album.
Can't believe Lester Bangs disliked the albums. He must have an Iphone I'm his grave.
This is not the version from the "kick out the jams" album
AMEN/Correct..
Lickable
Even with this crappy sound this song is awesome. Motherf******* brothers and sisters!
To bad there's not a studio version >_
2 people had problems kicking out their jams...
This is not the album version. Sounds like it was recorded a bit later, when they were a little more professional-sounding. Good though.
freetofu This is from 1972, recorded in England, Steev Moorhouse on Bass.
didnt rage do a cover
mc5..stooges,,,ramones..if it wasn't for them...there would be no punk. The world needed it. no more country rock ...yeh
a j Carter What about all the underground garage rock bands of the '60s? They had the "punk" label first.
+Jarke Nope true that
you should try DEATH from detroit too
Don't forget The Saints.
New York Dolls?
Mosrite :D
This is NOT the recording on the album cover shown....get it right.........
rcd49 Nobody said that it was. They merely stated a fact about the band's namesake album and displayed the cover!!
+rcd49 That exactly what I saying. I hate idiots that can't upload videos right

Scott Pilgrim Vs Comeau!!
Didn't the original say Brothers and sisters instead motherfuckers I heard at the time some albums did and some said brothers and sisters
NO.
Thumbs up if My Chemical Romance sent you here!!
Wrong version, this is not the one on the album.
2 people are obviously disco lovin' pansies. KICK OUT THE JAMS!
I suspect Henry Rollins would support everything except the dope. Still dope is preferable to alcohol.
me too hahahaa
I don't care if this is not the original. I'm too busy feeling like I could walk up to God and punch him in the face for taking both Rob and Fred away from us. Add Ron Asheton to that list and I'll throw in a kick or two.
I mean in
2 People don't like to Jam
KLF UH HUH UH HUH
Definitely NOT the first album version
