    It’s 1 AM in the morning and I’m watching your video. You actually taught me a lot about spark. Thanks. Tomorrow I’m going to go clean my magnetos.

    I'm maybe 'that' guy, but not the one that bought the mower for $700, but one that paid $100 for a running mower, full bagger, new blades, and a decent deck. The steering is wonky, but this one is going to get tuned and sold for that $500-$600, hopefully. But - this video is a great reminder of the free/simple things you can do to increase value right away.

      Nice. That is always a great feeling fixing up the $100 mower. That is how this whole thing got started. Buying riders for 100 for fun and selling them for 700 after a few fixes.

    Besides fuel, spark, air an engine also needs minimal compression. I had B&S riding mower with an intake valve that was so badly lapped in at low rpms the engine didn't have enough compression to start. Before the engine wouldn't start at all it had the strange behavior that it would start when cold, but not after it had been running and was hot.

    I am getting absolutely no spark but my spark plug looks completely fine and ignition coils are not bad now that i cleaned them. what do you think???

      It maybe the kill switch. Try cranking it with the little wire that hooks on the ignition coil pulled off. If it works then it is the kill wire.

    Also if I keep the kill switch disconnected, will it cause any problems?

    I have a 1998 Briggs and Stratton 18.5 OHV Intek Plus that has had 3 coils fail in 1 week. The kill tap on the coil shows continuity to ground all of the time even when the wire is off of it. I have bought 2 new coils after the first failure and you can start the mower the first time run it for 1 minute and it will not restart. Tested spark plug by grounding on the block and no spark now. Any thoughts on why these are failing almost immediately?

    • @MowerMike
      @MowerMike  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My bet is the coil is fine and the kill system is killing it. Try running it with the kill wire unhooked and see if it runs now

      @@MowerMike thanks for the reply, I have done that and still no spark. The coil is testing bad after it stops sparking. I'm at a loss

      @@matthewmoore8384 Hmm, I know Amazon mower parts have gone to crap as far as quality over the last couple of years. Maybe go to a mower shop and get a coil if you are using the Amazon ones
