When my family migrated from Bangladesh after partition, many had settled in Allahabad, both my parents grew up there, they studied in St Mary's and St Josephs, many of my relatives have graduated from the Allahabad University, I used to visit this city every summer as a kid, Alfred park, katra, civil lines, sangam.... Since I never could connect with an ancestral house or land, this place filled that position. I definitely feel more connected to this place than any part of Bengal.

It is like a treat to see the visuals of Allahabad of the 1950s and 1960s. Allahabad, once a city of bungalows is now an unplanned jungle of concrete with a lot of uncontrolled traffic.

I was born in allahabad in 2001 and I am very shocked to see that it was so much developed back then.
This much vibrancy on streets is more or less similar to that of today's.
Most of the parts are almost identical, nothing much changed.
This shows that development hasn't took plac at required pace here.
Cast politics has lead to favourism of one or more divisions of society and little attention was given to infrastructural development.
Pleased to see the amount of cultural events happening in those times which is missing nowadays The only exception is kumbh mela which became bigger and bigger over days.

A city wasted and neglected since the beginning of the 1990s. Had the ruling state governments and the central government of India taken good care of this once a prosperous and well cultured and well educated city, it would have been like today's Pune or Bangalore or Hyderabad. Lucknow, Kanpur and Allahabad could have been like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune of the North India.

@@k2indeed8998 Its very easy to blame others. No one looted UP more than people of UP themselves. Talk facts not nonsense. Other states have nothing to do with the downfall of UP. Especially the Eastern UP. Infact people of UP should be thankful to other states that create job opportunities for the people who go to their states for work. No one in East UP wants to become an employment creator. All want to get govt. Jobs. Their minds cannot rise above dreaming of becoming an IAS officer seated in a car with a siren fitted at tge top. I am myself from UP.

The country side graveyard still is there and i used to go there to fetch milk from a small family of milkmen who used to live there.
I have seen all those graves and was amazed to see that most of them had died of common diseases that are still pervelent and we Indians to a certain extent are immune from them.

Whatever it is but atleast we got to see the glimpses back to 1968. Amazing to see how we have transformed ourself after British left India.
We have built India back again. And this couldn't have been possible without education. Education shaped us what we are today. He gave to be grateful to our leaders who build some prestigious institutes.
British have left nothing for us to grow. It was Education which brought Indians on the world map.

They completely ignored cities of UP like kanpur allahabad after independence, allahabad was one of the most prominent cities of northern India before independence, it was on par with Bombay and Kolkata after independence but the leaders choosed to ignore it completely and here we r now, allhabadis r forced to migrate to other cities for better opportunities, our leaders failed us

Main problem of India after independence was people living standards dropped vastly which forced them to believe in jugaad culture and see the world around them in short sight. As the result of it we are poorly organized and don't think systematically even till this date. 😢 it will take another few years for everyone to see our country as one and work on problems with long plan.
