I'm 73. I saw the original episodes on NBC, the only TV network we got in central rural Upstate New York, near Cooperstown, in the early 1950's. Thank you for bringing these highly-skilled and artistic programs to TH-cam. I have no apologies to make as a white man, that this was great comedy and excellent writing and acting. I do think that the original radio program was a mockery by white men, as well as Al Jolson's mockery. These are not my responsibility, nor my guilt. I just caught the poetic and beautifully romantic lines between Darlene and Andy: "I'm out for a breath of fresh air." "Do you mind if I breathe along with you?" Such rare scripting is not to be found in the crude and sarcastic put-down comedy of the past many decades!
Very talented and loved actors,a beautiful show depicting hard working, everyday people . Notice the warmth and honesty in the characters, the humor is genuine throughout this show.
A brilliant show featuring total pro's, each one with their own unique persona... Coupled with top notch script writers... Amos 'N' Andy was television at its absolute best. Timeless comedy that remains just as hilarious today.

Spenser Williams Jr. (Andy) was collage educated, and a high ranking officer in the Army,,and a specialist in preparing and planning war plans(Intelligence) Ernestine Wade,(Sapphire)was an accomplished Organist..
I used to watch their program every single day they were on TV. I would never missed an episode. At the time I was only between I think thirteen or fourteen years old. My brother and I would laugh our heads off so funny. Each character was unique. Every episode and a unique story to it, and there was always a good outcome. It was a good clean fun to watch and enjoy
All of these black actors were the best actors that i have saw,and i am a white person from the south. The naacp made a terrible mistake by complaining about the sterytyping of blacks is dead wrong. These black actors were the best actors in the usa at the time they were madeThe show actually shows that black actors are just as intelligent as white people could act just just as good as white people. All of these actors that were in the show deserve a star on the hollywood walk of fame.
They banned it because apparently, people thought the show showed black people in a negative light. Also, if you search hard enough, you can find some of the old Amos n Andy radio programs (try to find the ones that are pre-1943, those were the best as there was no laugh track/studio audience and were way better paced.

All great art must endure the weight of banning and censorship; however, I can remember our maids who were embarrassed and ashamed of Amos n' Andy. The show hurt them. The performance brought me to tears and I thought Mary (our maid long deceased) might approve. Yet, in the background of the accolades, there was those murmuring "she should stick to soul." My biggest mistake was yet to come when I mused out loud that Marshal Mathers is the Walt Whitman of our century. The only way to escape this ethnolinguistic insanity is to speak another language. I hate how they make the woman look like the head of the household and the black man weak as usual smh. Men didn't let women talk to them like this back then
Some men did. Some women were bossy.
I loved the show growing up but does theme music depress anyone else. Doesn't fit at all.

MisterRuggles The Black Lives Matter feel just fine about this show. But would feel so much better if there were an episode where the cross burning clowns wearing the dunce caps crosses fell on them and all of their Evil asses burned to a Beautiful Black crisp! This is why I don't like Sapphire's character. That's ridiculous the way she behaved.
It would be good to bring this show back again. With a modern twist of course. They were the pioneers of comedy. Very funny. Love the kingfish with his sly self. Andy, Sapphire, and all the characters.
They did sanford and son ,good times the jefferson
I think Sapphire was great: sweet, warm, but fiery when she needed to be.
