    Great stuff guys! That's some real good places you stayed at. We were lucky enough to have heavy snow then clear blue skies when we filmed our drone footage over Snaefulsness Peninsula in March this year for our channel.. Need to head back in Summer. Cheers, Ian in London...

    Love all the videos and guides!! Currently using all of your blog posts, guides, packing list and recommendations to plan my two week trip to Iceland next month! I decided to go with the camper van route, but its not a 4x4, any chance you could comment on which places in your videos of Iceland I will be unable to access? It would be a great help, thanks!

    Hi Steve, I saw all your videos its fantastic, and educational for any one who wants to travel Iceland. Im travelling to Iceland this June, your videos have given me lot of insight about the trip. I just want to know the exact place of where you trekked in asbyrgi canal, and got tht drone shot. The one with a small waterfall. Thank you

    • @BackPackerSteve
      @BackPackerSteve  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That is super easy as there is just one waterfall at the end of the canyon - you can ask at the information center where you park your car for the different routes leading there :)

  • @fearlessandfar
    @fearlessandfar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Haha how long did you have to stand there pointing to get that shot at 1:44? I think Snaefellsnes is going to be like Gaztelugatxe for me... Great start to a series!!

    In your trip you went from Kirkjufellfoss to Akeuyri in one night which is about a 5 hr drive...If I was unwilling to drive that all at once, would there be any cool places to stop in between the 2 places?

    What would the cost of this trip be?

    • @BackPackerSteve
      @BackPackerSteve  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Rex McArtor depends on many factors: how many people, which car, how much you drive, if you have car insurance or would need it, which airline, where you eat, which kind of accommodation etc.... hotels are about 100€ per night, home rentals can be a better deal if you are 4+ people, car is like 700€ per 10 days + gas + insurance, in matter of food you look at 8-20€ for fast food and 40-60€ for restaurant meals (we cooked our own meals fir half of the trip), flights were 400€ round trip from germany for me. As you see the # of people can make a big difference for the daily costs of car/gas/insurance/accommodation and groceries. in general iceland is an expensive country but just incredibly beautiful!

    • @TheBeardedVagabond
      @TheBeardedVagabond 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow i knew it was expensive but I had no Idea it was 40-60E to eat out. That is crazy. The other prices seemed like what I was expecting though. Would be doing it with 3+ people and doing airbnb or homeaway. What was the cost of the gas for your trip (we'd have insurance with card)?

    • @TheBeardedVagabond
      @TheBeardedVagabond 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My friend who has been to a lot more countries than me said Iceland was his favorite. So it is high on my list.

    • @BackPackerSteve
      @BackPackerSteve  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rex McArtor it was about 1.60€ per liter - we must have spend 350-450€ on gas for the whole ring road & golden circle with many(!) sidetrips (consider all the extra driving to get those drone shots)

    • @TheBeardedVagabond

    Great video, but beware of SADcars car rental company. Unfortunately, I got influenced by this video and went with SADCars. We had a terrible experience with SADcars with my recent car rental in Iceland. My first Toyota Land Cruiser's brakes failed. Luckily I was close to my hotel and was able to park at the hotel's parking lot. If I was on the highway when the brakes failed, it would have been a disaster that would have caused a major accident! Trust me, it was not cheap, I paid similar to other rental companies there, but the car provided was a beaten-up, poorly maintained Toyota Land Cruiser with 160,000+ Kms on it and they failed to do a basic quality inspection before renting out the car to me. After 16 hours of reporting the problem, I received an alternate car after a lot of hassle and late night to meet a car mechanic. This jeopardized our travel plans. What's even worse, the new car was not that good either. It had 155,000 Kms on it and the back door lock was damaged and needed a hard push on the door before pulling the latch to make it work. Later when we went to Northern Iceland, I rented a Land Cruiser from Hertz. It had 50,000 Kms on it and was much better maintained, and the cost was similar. Avoid SADcars by all means.

      That's indeed sad to hear and I'm sorry for this experience. Of course I can only report from our very own experience where we drove the whole ring road and the highlands with one of the Duster's which aren't that old in general - we didn't have any problems with our car. I hope you still had a good time in Iceland and could enjoy the island nevertheless!

      @@BackPackerSteve Thanks for the reply. Yes, we managed to have a good time in spite of this bad experience. BTW, I posted this issue with SADCars on a TripAdvisor forum, and from the replies, looks like my bad experience was not unique. There are several pages of complaints. I should have done some research on TripAdvisor.
