This song isn´t just a classic...its one of the songs what arent humane. This song is extraterrestrial, its divine (FO REAL!). everytime when im listenin to it, im in my own fantasy world where isnt good or bad. its neutral like it doesnt exist god or devil. just you and the music. one time i thought im dead while listenin. (the dead isnt bad) it feals good. Marcus Miller RESPECT
this song is toooooo beautiful, makes me think of serenity, beautiful flowers, amazing and soul enriching relationships and all the potential life can bring....
Corinne Bailey Rae has definitely discovered her unique talent and, she knows how to use it. I just listened to this song last night, I was driving with the radio on and when this started I turned up the volume. I already knew it was Corinne Bailey Rae singing. I didn't know that Marcus Miller and David Sanborn were playing on it also.
wow.i was alsleep last night was awoken to this at first i thought Denise williams...But whe i really tuned in i thought thats corrinne , that VOICE...i texed all my friends at 230am to say shes back and shes done Denise williams track...seached today like mad to find this wiith marcus....wow....this is whats MUSIC is about.....and i missed this.....10/10.........wonderful.
I remember "Free" by Denise Williams when it was released. But there's something about Corinne Bailey Rae and Marcus Miller that give smoothness to this song.
I don't want to go on about this or that version as we like what we like but the song itself is just pure class and as long as who ever has soul you really can't go wrong with such a song peace y'all.
@MrStyle23 What you call "average" I call warm and smooth. You don't like it? I love it. So? We all have different tastes. And I can't see the point in trying to make comparisons as it's obvious this version was NOT about hitting the highest notes. Of course a huge part of the credit go to the musicians who made a wonderful, updated version of this classic
Corinne sounds like she's sitting under the shade of a tree on a sunny day, telling her story via song. It sounds intimate...personal. Few ever can match Denise Williams vocally, but that wasn't the point of this remake.
super! i my opinion it is much more elegant and musicaly more spohisticated but with equal intensity than the original Denice Williams version. Even though Denice does have a wonderful singing voice and emotion, as well, I like this version better! Miller always finds the best singers and most eloquent songs....
@MrStyle23 She's not out of her element at all, it wasn't meant to be a Denise Williams remake, it was meant to be a Marcus Miller interpretation. Besides, if Denise Williams didn't like it, they wouldn't have been able to release it without her permission. If she loves it, who are we to say it's not exactly how it was meant to be? Sorry, just thought it was kind of harsh to say she was out of her element when she it's evident this wasn't produced to be an exact replica.
Corinne Bailey Rae is a favorite of mine. Her "Trouble Sleeping" is still on my playlist today. When she sings, her voice makes me feel emotions that are wonderful and joyful.
@purpose408 Yes I do understand what that comment is right. Just because a person is black doesnt mean they sing with Soul, she is also Bi racial, and raised in England, just like Leonna Lewis, needs to learn soul, if that's even possible.
@pryncesscleo I didn't say that it was suppose to sound like Deniece Williams. I said the song is famous for Deniece Williams high notes. Marcus Miller did a great interpretation on his instrument. It was Corrinne that was average at best. I stand by what I said. She was out of her element.
Nice cover. The bass is killer but what would one expect from Marcus Miller. Vocally my girl Corrine Bailey Rae was out of her element. She delivered an average performance but that song is famous for the high notes of Deniece Williams.

@Cash Rex Lately I have been using Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
I remember "Free" by Denise Williams when it was released. But there's something about Corinne Bailey Rae and Marcus Miller that give smoothness to this song.

Corinne sounds like she's sitting under the shade of a tree on a sunny day, telling her story via song. It sounds intimate...personal. Few ever can match Denise Williams vocally, but that wasn't the point of this remake.
great song and voice

I really like Marcus Miller and Corinne Bailey Rae's version of "Free". I like it so much that I'm reading the comments, and leaving comments.
i agree
i think i like this one better than the original by denise williams
I've heard it said that Marcus copied Jaco in his early days. I can't hear it, but maybe it's true.
cool..
This version makes the original by Deniece Williams pale in comparison...
Corinne Bailey Rae is a favorite of mine. Her "Trouble Sleeping" is still on my playlist today. When she sings, her voice makes me feel emotions that are wonderful and joyful.

check the original...Deniece Williams,,,amazing video..at the soul train..
@gbgsings8 did you just say that Corrinne needs to sing with more soul? you can't be serious
While not Niecy, still a awfully good version.

this version is too bland...i prefer Niecy Williams performance. She needs to sing with more soul.
