  • This is a restaurant suggested by one of the Malaysian subscribers: "let's first eat Nasi Lemak here!"
    There was a guy who helped me order the menu.
    He was so friendly he started talking to me in the queue, "you're so lucky because the queue is not as long as usual."
    I'm grateful for this natural kindness of people in Malaysia.
    Nasi lemak was really addictive! It sure was a superb plate!

    ◆self-introduction
    We were just an ordinary Japanese married couple, both working, until my wife suddenly chose to move overseas.
    After thinking deeply, I reached a conclusion to leave the company I worked for 12 years, and started my new life as a stay-at-home dad in 2021.
    At first, I had rough time with stress and felt conflicted, but now I enjoy my life in Malaysia, taking the household chores over from my wife.
    As I changed my lifestyle I changed my hairstyle to Samurai(Man Bun).
    I named this channel "Samurai -----" as some people call me "samurai!" since I came to Malaysia.
    In this channel, I will be introducing:
    1. My daily life and things I noticed as stay-home-dad
    2. My Malaysian life
    3. Changes we experience upon moving overseas
    Hope you enjoy!

    Glad you enjoyed it. Every shop's nasi lemak taste different so you can explore more if you want to. Also if you have a sambal that is too spicy, mash the egg yolk into it and it will tone down the spiciness.

      @@SamuraiStayAtHomeDad There are some roadside stalls which sell very small nasi lemak wrapped in a triangular shape (Msians called it nasi lemak bungkus -bungkus is wrapped). Some are savoury tasting,some are sweeter for the sambal. The original would be those wrapped in banana leaves and newspaper. Inside is quater egg,sambal with anchovies. Cost only about RM$2. The more rural states in Msia will be around RM$1.20-$1.50. Hope you enjoy discovering them.

    The basic (original) Nasi lemak only served with sambal, hard boiled egg, dried anchovy and cucumber.
    Then you can have optional protein such as:
    - chicken (fried, rendang, masak merah, curry etc)
    - beef/cow organs such as liver, lung, etc
    - squid
    - prawn/sometimes lobster
    - fish (normally skipjack tuna if in Terengganu)
    You can mix & match whatever to your liking.

    Samurai San, once again I am envious. I cancelled my flight to NY within 24 hrs yesterday. Needed to visit my mother in law (96 years old) due to her failing health. This new Covid Virus, Omicron, is interferring with my plans. My next plan was to visit my mum (80). Now all my top destinations are put on hold. That means...no nasi lemak in Malaysia for a long while. You are the second TH-camr who introduced me to this restaurant. I noticed that you ate the different items of food separately...unless you edited that part. By combining the food onto the spoon, makes the dish tastes yummy.

    IGreat video! Love the nasi lemak! Reminds me when we were in Japan, each time I try to speak English to customer service, they look at us with blank faces. But not in Malaysia, they can work with you in the language and try to speak even English. I don`t know what or how Japanese people learn English in their government schools that they can`t even manage basic English speaking. And this was in Tokyo. Maybe a video about English in Japanese schools? What`s going on there?

    Original nasi lemak has nothing alien in it. That is how I evaluate the nasi lemak. Here are the basic ingredient for a nasi lemak, eg. rice cooked in coconut milk, sambal, peanuts, fried anchovies, cucumber, egg(hard boiled/omelette) never fried egg and kangkong(water spinach) at times. Anything more added to it, it is like nasi campur. I do see a lot of people eat nasi campur(mixed rice).

    • @SamuraiStayAtHomeDad
      @SamuraiStayAtHomeDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the chicken I ate is also an additional right.. It's my first time to hear nasi campur!! Thank you for teaching😊

    • @kayellai5278
      @kayellai5278 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SamuraiStayAtHomeDad Yes, the chicken is an add-on not original. The purpose of having nasi lemak, it is to taste the lemak in the nasi and the flavourful taste of sambal with good side condiments. I am being sarcastic when people add too much side dish, it has become nasi campur(mixed rice). It defeat the purpose of having a good nasi lemak. Commercially it is exploited that you must have chicken in nasi lemak to increase revenue. I always say I want 'nasi lemak biasa'.

    As for chinese foods, any chinese kopitiam that has 40%-50% of tables sat with people will be decent enough (fully packed kopitiam generally has good foods). Look at several tables, and see what drink and food that most people are eating, and you can order the same... won't go wrong.
