Because Feraligatr is a physical based attacker with higher attack stat than his special attack stat. Waterfall is a physical move while Surf is a special move. Despite the higher base power of Surf, Waterfall will deal higher damage because of that attack stat. 🙂

Using Heracross against Lance is a bad idea in itself. Lance has *6 Flying types.* Luckily Garchomp was there in the rematch, but even then, there’s still *5 Flying types.*

Before I recently dug it out and started training a new team, I had a level 50 floatzel, 30 graveler and 30 roselia for the champion to feast on. Having literal gods on your side is really useful.

Bruh the only dragonite I was worried about was the one with thunder, so I sent out my togetic as cannon fodder. It survived a thunder from dragonite with only 5 hp left, so I used metronome and it self-destructed, taking the dragonite down with it in one shot. Honestly the best moment in that battle.

I personally hate it when I see someone just rush through a battle like this using a Pokémon that is overleveled and has the type advantage for most, if not all, Pokémon. I will always live by one personal rule: Never get overleveled, and use different, interesting Pokémon and strategies.

Just a tip, Gyarados is NOT weak against grass, his half-flying resistance to grass cancels out his half-water weakness to it, he's just neutral against grass. He's weak to Rock(x2) and Electric(x4). That's why your Victreebell/Leaf Blade isn't doing much.
Lmao I’ll never forget how my first battle against Lance went. I basically took care of all his team while struggling against his first two dragonite, then again this last dragonite he was sweeping my team until I pulled out my under leveled dragonair which managed to get a critical and finish it off. And then it evolved after god what a game.
Lance would have a Dragonair and a Kingdra replacing two of his Dragonite. I also think quite boring in a region that there are only two fully evolved Dragon-types having a "Dragon-type" expert as a Champion.
as a kid i streamrolled the entire game with my overleveled typhlosion and the only one i couldn't beat was lance; i couldn't get through his dragonites. i decided to catch a lokhlass, spent a good time leveling it up and with it i finaly beated lance. good times.

Did they nerf Lance in this remake or are you just really good? I remember the original Lance kicking my ass, but I was also like 10 years old. Also, this is a masterclass in how to use a Pokemon as a "sweeper" as your Feraligatr took zero-damage, amazing!
I'm really glad, there's someone else out there, who appreciates Feraligatr, and chooses him as a starter. I'm honestly tired of almost everyone saying Cyndaquil/Typhlosion is a better starter choice than Totodile, because he isn't. Against Falkner, none of them is better than the other. He only has a Pidgey, and a Pidgeotto, who are extremely easy to beat. Against Bugsy, Cyndaquil has the advantage over Totodile, only in the original Gold and Silver games. In Heartgold and Soulsilver, Croconaw can learn ice fang, making Bugsy's gym really easy to beat. Whitney's Miltank, is hard for everyone, but here Totodile has another advantage, and it's not just his higher attack stat (cause Cyndaquil's evolutionary line aren't physichal attackers), it's that Croconaw evolves into Feraligart at lvl 30. Quilava doesn't evolve into Typhlosion till lvl 36. So with Croconaw, you can just easily evolve him, by fighting every trainer in Goldenrod city, and destroy that Miltank with Feraligart. That doesn't apply to poor Quilava, who doesn't have the fate of evolving this early, so you're forced to face that Miltank with a Quilava, who isn't as powerful as Feral. From now onwards, the water starter has a clear advantage, because of how early it evolves, and you can face the rest of gyms with Feraligart (from Whitney onwards), while Quilava will still take some time to evolve. Against Morty, Feral has an advantage over Quilava, because he can learn a dark type move by level up: bite. So Morty's goshts are easier to beat for Feral. Against Chuck, the fighting type specialist, Quilava (or Typhlosion if you have already evolve it), will still struggle, because of his lower physichal defenses, and because the leader's strongest poke is a friggin water type: Poliwrath. Against Jasmine, both of them are good against her magnemites, (here I'll admit Typhlosion is better only against the magnemites, cause they can use electric type moves), but it's irrelevant, cause Feral will outspeed them anyways, and end them with Surf. Against Steelix, Feraligart is better, because this monster is Steel/Ground, which makes it resistent to fire. I swear I tried both these starters, and Feraligart ended Steelix with 1 single Surf. While it took Typhlosion 2 Flamethrowers to beat him. Against Pryce, as surprising as it may seem, Feraligart is still better, because this old man has a Seel, a Dewgong (who are both water types, and fully capable of ending Typhlosion with one single hit), and his strongest poke: Pilloswine, who, sames as Jasmine's Steelix, is part ground type, which makes it resist Typhlosion's fire, and makes it vulnerable to Feral's Surf. Again, I tried both of them, and Feraligart defeated Pilloswine with one surf, while again, it took Typhlosion 2 flamethrowers to bring him down. I don't need to talk bout Claire, she uses dragons, so Feraligart is better than the fire starter by a long shot, not to mention that her strongest pokémon is a Kingdra. Again, a water type Typhlosion wouldn't do really good against. In the elite 4, Feral is better against will, cause as I've said he can learn ice type moves, and 1 dark type move, which is good to bring Will's psychics down (I mentioned the ice type moves, cause Will has 2 Xatus). I think Will has a Jynx, which is the only poke in his team, Typhlosion would do good against. There's Bruno with his fighting types and his Onix, and Feral would be better to beat the Onix, and slightly better than Typhlosion cause he has higher physichal attack and defense stats. Anyways, none of them is better than the other here, it's commendable to have a psychic type, or if you find Eartquake in victory road and teach it to your starter, to beat Bruno's team with it. Both of them are equally good against Koga, if you teach them Eartquake. And anyways, Feral's Eartquake would be stronger than Typhlosion' because it's a physichal move, and Feral has a higher physichal attack stat. None of them do really good vs Karen, and Feral is better than Typhlosion vs Lance. As you can see, Totodile is the best starter choice. Both of them are equally good in Gold/Silver/Crystal, but in Heartgold/Soulsilver, Feraligart is a lot better than Typhlosion. I used to like Cyndaquil, I really did like him, till I saw all the Typhlosion stans who hated on Feraligart, because apparently Typhlosion is a better starter, that's when everything changed, and I started disliking the fire rat. Seriously, people really think Typhlosion is better because the total sum of all his stats, equals to 534, while Feral's only 530? Just for a 4 points difference? Ok, keep dreaming.
Swampert is also same. He has 535 stats but it's really better than Blaziken and Sceptile. Because of its only weakness, grass. U won't find much grass in hoenn. So, swampert is the boss

My play through of beating Lance was really stupid, but a smart strategy. All my Pokémon were 50 or higher, or 50-. I was able to sweep his Gyrados with my Ampharos, and counting that until I reached his lvl 50 Dragonite. My WHOlE team got sweep by his stupid Dragonite. Only my starter was left. I used a revive on my Heracross and sacrifice Typlosion/Flare. He got in some chip damage and he was at about 10 hp. I used a revive on my Typlosion. And ended up knocking out his Dragonite. I countinued doing this for the whole fight. wow
Well when i defeated Lance's Charizard, Aerodactyl, and Gyarados, i was face to face with His Dragonites. I threw out my Shiny Gyarados and spammed ice fang and hoped for the best. And i won. Any kind of strategy you can use, as long as it works
I was thinking, why didn't Lance have a Kingdra? Since in Johto it was added as a Dragon Type, he could've replaced one of his Dragonites, also he seems to know that Dragon gym leader, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him with a Kingdra
The only weakness it would have is fairy, which I guess is nonexistent in gen 4. I would love the challenge tho. People playing for the first time would definitely struggle so they had to make it a bit easier I guess. My bad, also weak to Dragon ofc but still, Kindra's a beast and anyone would probably have a hard time dealing with this guy without using type advantages or unless you have a pretty strong pokemon
Oh god. I forgot my lvl 40 Dragonair in the PC and had to battle with 5 Pokémon (didn't even use my underlevelled Croconaw hm slave) while I barely had any Revives. My mamoswine carried me through 3 of the Pokémon (2 dragonites and aerodactyl).
lance has always felt incredibly underwhelming to me, especially since half of his team is dragonites, AND his team is about 10 levels lower than like any other champion.
The first time I beat him was with this team: Ampharos, Dragonair, Donphan, Typhlosion, Sudowoodo, and Noctowl Edit: I HATE THOSE DRAGONITES CUZ I DONT HAVE ANY ICE TYPE, also, my dragonair wasnt that leveled up so yeah. Ampharos saved it with the static
Once you've beaten all 4 members of the Elite Four, you'll finally have a chance against the Champion. The Pokémon League Champion is non other than Lance. He'll have Gyarados, Charizard, Aerodactyl, and 3 Dragonite. Once you're done with the Champion fight, you'll become the Champion of the Johto region. And there's plenty for you to do in the Johto region, and lots of legendary Pokémon to find.

Besides his Gyrados, his entire team is easily taken down with a Golem that knows Defense Curl and Rollout (Defense Curl doubles the power of Rollout for some reason, making it overpowered enough to 1 shot most of his dragons)

Blue got dethroned by Red first, but Red went off to hone on his own skills. There was no candidate for the Viradian City gym ever since Giovanni left, so Blue was selected for his experience.

Back when I didn't know or care about type advantages and weaknesses, Lance was a nightmare, I thought I could beat his dragons with my over leveled Typhlosion by spamming eruption and flamethrower 😅 I lost so many times, I don't even know how I beat him at all

Just a tip, Gyarados is NOT weak against grass, his half-flying resistance to grass cancels out his half-water weakness to it, he's just neutral against grass. He's weak to Rock(x2) and Electric(x4).
That's why your Victreebell/Leaf Blade isn't doing much.
He only used Victreebel so he could paralyze the gyarados and let Donphan outspeed it, he didnt need Victreebel to attack

Lmao I’ll never forget how my first battle against Lance went. I basically took care of all his team while struggling against his first two dragonite, then again this last dragonite he was sweeping my team until I pulled out my under leveled dragonair which managed to get a critical and finish it off. And then it evolved after god what a game.

as a kid i streamrolled the entire game with my overleveled typhlosion and the only one i couldn't beat was lance; i couldn't get through his dragonites.
i decided to catch a lokhlass, spent a good time leveling it up and with it i finaly beated lance.

Did they nerf Lance in this remake or are you just really good? I remember the original Lance kicking my ass, but I was also like 10 years old. Also, this is a masterclass in how to use a Pokemon as a "sweeper" as your Feraligatr took zero-damage, amazing!

I'm really glad, there's someone else out there, who appreciates Feraligatr, and chooses him as a starter. I'm honestly tired of almost everyone saying Cyndaquil/Typhlosion is a better starter choice than Totodile, because he isn't. Against Falkner, none of them is better than the other. He only has a Pidgey, and a Pidgeotto, who are extremely easy to beat. Against Bugsy, Cyndaquil has the advantage over Totodile, only in the original Gold and Silver games. In Heartgold and Soulsilver, Croconaw can learn ice fang, making Bugsy's gym really easy to beat. Whitney's Miltank, is hard for everyone, but here Totodile has another advantage, and it's not just his higher attack stat (cause Cyndaquil's evolutionary line aren't physichal attackers), it's that Croconaw evolves into Feraligart at lvl 30. Quilava doesn't evolve into Typhlosion till lvl 36. So with Croconaw, you can just easily evolve him, by fighting every trainer in Goldenrod city, and destroy that Miltank with Feraligart. That doesn't apply to poor Quilava, who doesn't have the fate of evolving this early, so you're forced to face that Miltank with a Quilava, who isn't as powerful as Feral. From now onwards, the water starter has a clear advantage, because of how early it evolves, and you can face the rest of gyms with Feraligart (from Whitney onwards), while Quilava will still take some time to evolve. Against Morty, Feral has an advantage over Quilava, because he can learn a dark type move by level up: bite. So Morty's goshts are easier to beat for Feral. Against Chuck, the fighting type specialist, Quilava (or Typhlosion if you have already evolve it), will still struggle, because of his lower physichal defenses, and because the leader's strongest poke is a friggin water type: Poliwrath. Against Jasmine, both of them are good against her magnemites, (here I'll admit Typhlosion is better only against the magnemites, cause they can use electric type moves), but it's irrelevant, cause Feral will outspeed them anyways, and end them with Surf. Against Steelix, Feraligart is better, because this monster is Steel/Ground, which makes it resistent to fire. I swear I tried both these starters, and Feraligart ended Steelix with 1 single Surf. While it took Typhlosion 2 Flamethrowers to beat him. Against Pryce, as surprising as it may seem, Feraligart is still better, because this old man has a Seel, a Dewgong (who are both water types, and fully capable of ending Typhlosion with one single hit), and his strongest poke: Pilloswine, who, sames as Jasmine's Steelix, is part ground type, which makes it resist Typhlosion's fire, and makes it vulnerable to Feral's Surf. Again, I tried both of them, and Feraligart defeated Pilloswine with one surf, while again, it took Typhlosion 2 flamethrowers to bring him down. I don't need to talk bout Claire, she uses dragons, so Feraligart is better than the fire starter by a long shot, not to mention that her strongest pokémon is a Kingdra. Again, a water type Typhlosion wouldn't do really good against. In the elite 4, Feral is better against will, cause as I've said he can learn ice type moves, and 1 dark type move, which is good to bring Will's psychics down (I mentioned the ice type moves, cause Will has 2 Xatus). I think Will has a Jynx, which is the only poke in his team, Typhlosion would do good against. There's Bruno with his fighting types and his Onix, and Feral would be better to beat the Onix, and slightly better than Typhlosion cause he has higher physichal attack and defense stats. Anyways, none of them is better than the other here, it's commendable to have a psychic type, or if you find Eartquake in victory road and teach it to your starter, to beat Bruno's team with it. Both of them are equally good against Koga, if you teach them Eartquake. And anyways, Feral's Eartquake would be stronger than Typhlosion' because it's a physichal move, and Feral has a higher physichal attack stat. None of them do really good vs Karen, and Feral is better than Typhlosion vs Lance. As you can see, Totodile is the best starter choice. Both of them are equally good in Gold/Silver/Crystal, but in Heartgold/Soulsilver, Feraligart is a lot better than Typhlosion. I used to like Cyndaquil, I really did like him, till I saw all the Typhlosion stans who hated on Feraligart, because apparently Typhlosion is a better starter, that's when everything changed, and I started disliking the fire rat. Seriously, people really think Typhlosion is better because the total sum of all his stats, equals to 534, while Feral's only 530? Just for a 4 points difference? Ok, keep dreaming.
Swampert is also same. He has 535 stats but it's really better than Blaziken and Sceptile. Because of its only weakness, grass. U won't find much grass in hoenn. So, swampert is the boss

My play through of beating Lance was really stupid, but a smart strategy.
All my Pokémon were 50 or higher, or 50-. I was able to sweep his Gyrados with my Ampharos, and counting that until I reached his lvl 50 Dragonite. My WHOlE team got sweep by his stupid Dragonite. Only my starter was left. I used a revive on my Heracross and sacrifice Typlosion/Flare. He got in some chip damage and he was at about 10 hp. I used a revive on my Typlosion. And ended up knocking out his Dragonite. I countinued doing this for the whole fight.

Well when i defeated Lance's Charizard, Aerodactyl, and Gyarados, i was face to face with His Dragonites. I threw out my Shiny Gyarados and spammed ice fang and hoped for the best. And i won. Any kind of strategy you can use, as long as it works
I was thinking, why didn't Lance have a Kingdra? Since in Johto it was added as a Dragon Type, he could've replaced one of his Dragonites, also he seems to know that Dragon gym leader, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him with a Kingdra
The only weakness it would have is fairy, which I guess is nonexistent in gen 4. I would love the challenge tho. People playing for the first time would definitely struggle so they had to make it a bit easier I guess.
My bad, also weak to Dragon ofc but still, Kindra's a beast and anyone would probably have a hard time dealing with this guy without using type advantages or unless you have a pretty strong pokemon

Oh god. I forgot my lvl 40 Dragonair in the PC and had to battle with 5 Pokémon (didn't even use my underlevelled Croconaw hm slave) while I barely had any Revives. My mamoswine carried me through 3 of the Pokémon (2 dragonites and aerodactyl).

Once you've beaten all 4 members of the Elite Four, you'll finally have a chance against the Champion. The Pokémon League Champion is non other than Lance. He'll have Gyarados, Charizard, Aerodactyl, and 3 Dragonite. Once you're done with the Champion fight, you'll become the Champion of the Johto region. And there's plenty for you to do in the Johto region, and lots of legendary Pokémon to find.

How did you train this much! My team is crazily one sided which is ho-oh typhlosion gyarados and amphoros. My other members are useless! I have no idea how I can beat the e4 with doing it with 4 Pokémon and no heals as I have no money. I feel softlocked. :(
Besides his Gyrados, his entire team is easily taken down with a Golem that knows Defense Curl and Rollout (Defense Curl doubles the power of Rollout for some reason, making it overpowered enough to 1 shot most of his dragons)

Blue got dethroned by Red first, but Red went off to hone on his own skills. There was no candidate for the Viradian City gym ever since Giovanni left, so Blue was selected for his experience.
