    Great review man. Neat little pocket pistol. If I weren't so busy buying rifles I would have to pick one of these pistols up.

    Well, here it is 2024 September 9. I just purchased a Rohrbaugh R9 stainless slide. One of the nicest guns I have ever fired. It’s definitely not a range toy, but I enjoyed it. It is still one of the smallest carry 9 mm out there. I gave a little over 1200 for it, but I do not understand why they went out of business. They had a great product.

    Great review and thank you for taking the time to do it. You head the nail on the head. I've owned my R9 for over 2 years now and carry it ALL the time. Threw another $700 worth of gunsmithing into it. It truly is the ultimate micro concealed carry gun. Some of the dorks that leave ridiculous comments on my Rohrbaugh youtube page should read your review.

  • @TheYankeeMarshal
    @TheYankeeMarshal  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They actually suggest every 400-500 rounds when you speak to them directly. Most micro-compact guns suggest similar. I did my own testing on a gun forum awhile back and the spring suffered no significant loss of strength after 500 rounds.

    very nice presentation, I agree on all points, this is one fine security tool... as for the aluminum frame, for me that is a mute issue, I have used dry-slide since the 60's, never have I had any galling from steel to alloy contact... I have my original quart of dri-slide still over half-full, a very good lubricant tor aluminum on steel...

  • @TheYankeeMarshal
    @TheYankeeMarshal  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You really think the extra $60+k you pay for the Benz is because of a few gadgets (most of which you can still get on the Buick)? Or do you think it is because of the overall better build quality?

    Rohrbaugh's website advises against the use of +p ammo but does not say it will damage the gun. Only that the short barrel doesn't allow +p ammo to make a noticeable difference in velocity and shooting large amounts of +p will cause barrel wear quicker than standard pressure ammo.

  • @TheYankeeMarshal
    @TheYankeeMarshal  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is smaller but the other guns like the P290 are close and shoot easily as well.

    LOL some people complained about the trigger of the RM 380... I got one for $175 shipped, last year...

    Boberg ain't cheap either...but I would like to own one. I just wish either would make a non-aluminum frame model.

    @MamoDad
    Hi-point says their guns will handle plus p but warns you should shoot them sparingly.
    Rohrbaugh says plus p won't damage the r9 but the 2.4 inch barrel doesn't get that
    much of an advantage by using it.

  • @MrCharlieBelle

    Where is clip holster from? I googled Mako holsters and the web site showed no results for Rohrbaugh.

    @MrCharlieBelle I bought mine from a guy on the Seecamp forum.

  • @TheYankeeMarshal

    What is there to answer. You think because they did not build it with the features you want that they did something wrong. A Jeep has a lousy hiway ride and poor sound suppression. That does not keep it from being a perfect off-road vehicle. What puss wants a safety on a DA pocket gun? Why would they want to make the gun DA/SA and sacrifice the small size? How does the slide not locking back effect performance because it sure helps make the gun smaller and tighter. You points have no merit.

    How does this pistol compare to other micro 9mm handguns? Being on the very high end of the market ($1k+), what makes this one more special than the rest?

  • @bell3156
    @bell3156 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    What ammo did you use? I can't get a full magazine without a failure to load/eject or fire. Used Winchester t hollow points and magtech fmj. It's accurate and not bad to shoot at all, but it's not reliable.

    I bought a R9 2 months ago and I really like it for pocket carry, I was carrying a Kel Tec 380 which is better in the pocket but I never eally felt safe becuase if the reliability issues. Is the P290 as comfortable in the pocket as the R9 ?

    I am a huge fan of the styling of this gun, but IMO, the Kahr is better in terms of long term reliability. The Kahr is also more pleasant to shoot.

  • @lovemym16
    @lovemym16 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your review is exactly the opposite of Ian's at forgotten weapons. He said it was "Downright unpleasant to shoot." He also got 2 failures to extract and a magazine that would not eject easily.

    @odessa45, i respectfully disagree based on the fact that probably 99% of the handguns available have their mag release in the traditional behind the trigger spot. i feel like if i needed to reload the gun that my muscke memory would make me fumble with it....just doesnt seem natural...

    I've owned this gun since 2005. Yes, it's the most expensive little gun out there, but it has always been the smallest, lightest 9mm out there. That's what it was meant for. I shot 50 rounds when I bought it to test it out, and it worked perfect. I don't care about having to replace the spring every 200 rounds, I don't intend to fire it again, unless I'm defending myself. It has a bit of a kick to it, due to it's very small size, but after the first few shots, you get used to it. Anyone who puts this gun down has never owned one, and probably can't afford to buy it.

    @MamoDad I don't know how you can compare a Hi-Point with a Rohrbaugh R9. The Hi-point has over double the weight and much larger dimensions. It's a completely different class of pistol all together, more comparable to a Walther PPK. The Rohrbaugh R9 is in the same class as the Seecamp, Ruger LCR, NAA Guardian, etc, and has a much more powerful round. You're comparing apples to oranges. My 1911 9mm is rated for +P as well. So What?

  • @clangerbasher

    I bet a "full size" one retaining a single stack magazine would be a nice gun.

  • @recalcitrantdefiance
    @recalcitrantdefiance 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this has drawbacks, but it looks like it is going to fit in my front pocket khakis slicker than snake snot. It doesn't look like it was made with Lego's, so it won't feel like it was made with Lego's while it's in my pocket. This is not an ideal shootout gun, but it is the best choice for firepower in consideration of putting a high premium on concealability, and low profile under clothing. Seecamp is smaller but 380.

  • @crashinflames

    YM, how's the "slide bite" potential with this pistol?

    • @kevincharles4505
      @kevincharles4505 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      iN 10+ years and hundreds of rounds NEVER a 'PPK' bite.

  • @smokestakz
    @smokestakz 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    and the no +p makes a difference..what if all you could find were nato boxes or the hollowpoint you felt safe with was a plus p round that you use in your full size 9mm...any modern 9mm should be plus p rated...hell my 320$ ruger has a +p+ rating...not to say if i ran a 100 rounds of +P+ thru it in a sitting that i would pop something but you catch my drift..ammo restrictions are bad...

    Kinda cool that it's a 9mm when every other gun around this size is 380. Honestly, though, I'm not impressed for the price. I about fell out of my chair when I looked it up on Gunbroker.

  • @TheYankeeMarshal

    Out of the 3 full comments I post thats all you say? Seriously, you didnt anwser any of my questions or disprove any of my points. And no i dont think you pay $60+k for gadgets, $20 to $40 is probably is just for the brand name. I see just as many old buicks on the road today as i do benz. So i would say they are the same quality. Just like i'm willing to bet a ruger or kahr or glock etc etc will stand the test of time just like this gun will for the fraction of the price.

  • @benz254
    @benz254 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    cont: and i forgot to mention the trigger. Its does seem to have a smooth pull back but the reset is a joke. I'm just sayin if your goin to do gun reviews at least dont be bias and just tell the truth. No way is this gun in any shape or form a perfect 10. Besides quality and size this gun has NOTHING. I'm sure it will probably last forever but so will a $450 Ruger. The cost of this gun is just rediculous plain and simple. Sorry i'm not tryin to troll i just dont understand.

  • @LeaveItToBeaner
    @LeaveItToBeaner 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing mercedes about this gun is you have to own one to afford it.

  • @benz254
    @benz254 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    My main question is what makes this gun worth over $1000. Nothing does. Its built with quality thats it. And so what. Theres plenty of gun that have the same quality perform the same and will last just as long for under $600. What about having to have a tool to take it apart. what about the trigger pull and reset being a mile long, what about the spring wearin out every 300 rounds. Those all have merit. This gun is not worth it all your gettin is the ability to say I own a Rohrbaugh. Thats it.

      Can you fit a High Point in front jeans pocket/

  • @benz254
    @benz254 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    And no +P ammo has a lot of merit. Like you said its a carry gun and you cant even put high pressure ammo in it. For $1100 that bull shit. And i didnt say it needed a safety i said safety features. For that money they could at least throw chambered indicator on there or somthing. I'm sorry for takin up all this space and agruin with you I just dont get it at all. But i've watched a hand full of your vids today and you seem knowledgable and funny I just think you were bein bias with the 10 out 10

  • @benz254
    @benz254 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cont: Your review seems really bias at the end you give the gun a perfect 10. How is it a perfect 10, when its extremly expensive, no +P, doesnt lock back on last round, no safety features at all, non ajustable sights, you need a freakin punch to take it apart, you have to replace the freakin recoil spring every 300 rounds what the hell is that about?, this gun is far from being a perfect ten. I know you paid an arm and a leg for this gun but be honest its not a perfect 10, thats just bias.

    The sig is not a failure as you put it. And nearly equal? it's still cheaper. Alot of people like the solo. Everyone has an opinion it's just that yours sucks lol. The beretta nano is better, the xds is better the m&p shield is better. cuz they are ALL cheaper and equally reliable. What a bout the lc9? What about a smith j frame revolver? There are plenty of choices I'd pick over this overpriced oversold gun.

  • @benz254
    @benz254 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thats a bad comparison bc a benz has a lot of stuff that the buick doesn't. Name something besides weight and size that this gun has that i cant find in a much much cheaper gun. The gun just literally has sights and it shoots thats it. Im not tryin to talk down your gun but calling it a mercedes is a joke. The biggest thing for me is no +P ammo. Thats just ridiculous you pay over $1000 and you cant even run through it what you want. And everything else i listed in the last post is pretty sad too

    The gun cost over $1000 and has no goodies on it what so ever. What are you gettin for all that extra money that you cant get with a million other guns for a fraction of the price. Please somebody tell me what this gun has beside a brand name that makes it worth $1100 to $1600? Why would anybody buy this fire arm. non ajustable sights, only holds 6+1, kicks hard, double action only, no +P rounds, doesnt lock back on last round. Somebody please bc it seems like it should only be like 3 or $400
