Jackson was my go-to in the 90’s into the early 2000’s, and I’ve had at least one in the collection to this day. One of my sole regrets in managing the collection was letting go a gorgeous Mike Shannon built RR1 with hot rod flame graphics. Every Jackson I ever owned (and currently own) have felt and sounded great 👌🏻
The Jackson Rhoads has always been my favorite guitar body style. It's pointy and aggressive while still being somewhat sleek and elegant. They make a very loud visual statement and sometimes it's fun to be noticed on stage.
years ago I watched you on here with a super rad looking FFAA long sleeve..it was so rad that i decided to check the band out... The Sea of Tragic Beasts melts my face off and they end up becoming one of my favourite bands... which then segues into Pat's love for Jackson pushing me enough to get a Dinky 7-string(also my first 7). so in a weird way, you're also to blame. so thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for exposing me to FFAA and thank you for indirectly helping me fall in love with Jackson.
I think we’re entering a new golden era of Jackson guitars. Especially in the hardcore community, if you watch any Hate5six live footage or LCY bands, more often than not, you’re going to see a Jackson guitar. I think it’s a callback to crossover bands from the 80’s. In the metal community you’re seeing more rhoads and warriors which I believe is a reaction to the over saturation of super-Strats we saw in the 2010’s. Pointy guitars are back.
@@dannyllerenatv8635 agree but I think the majority of players don’t realize that just about any electric guitar can do any genre. In my opinion, the exception would be active pickups because they do have limitations. But yeah man, I just got a Tele (single in the bridge, hum in the neck) and that thing can djent it’s ass off. My favorite tones for that particular sound is actually using the neck humbucker at split position. I don’t write that genre but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love jamming with that sound from time to time
You hit the nail on the head I play in a band in Australia called wetwork pretty much every hardcore band we play with use Jackson’s included myself. I’m a massive fan of the professional made in Japan series I own to many
9:30 they have existed with Tune-O-Matics for years However this bridge makes more sense since it doesn't have a neck able, making it more similar to the recessed Floyd Rose version
I think the first time I really paid attention to Jackson guitars was Phil Collen (Def Leppard) and his Bella Legosi Jackson. I fell in love with that thing back then and wish I could get a copy of that guitar.
I picked up my first Jackson in 2007 as a Christmas gift from my dad that I had to practically beg him for (I was 14 at the time). Every other guitar just feels weird now. I went from the JS30RR and the JS30 Dinky to two Jackson KEX Kellys and now discontinued SL7Q Soloist, with plans to get a custom shop Kelly in the future. Best guitars on the planet IMO
Perfect timing on this vid... I'm looking to get this exact guitar in black. I also started playing guitar in 1994 but it was in the Fall. Cheers to being old men.
I've been a Jackson fanboy ever since I laid eyes on Randy's black/gold concord in the early '80s, of course it was decades later before I could afford my first Jackson. I've bought and sold several guitars from various other brands over the years, but nothing feels better then a Jackson neck to me.
I have been a Jackson guy since the late 80's early 90's. I got my first real guitar in 89, which was a Charvel Model 2. From then, I've owned countless Jacksons. I loved the headstocks and the thinness of the neck. However, these days I've become a HUGE fan of the Petrucci Music Man guitars. I still have 4 or 5 Jacksons, but I have three Music Man guitars and will pick those up long before the Jacksons.
I literally stop being a fan after they became almost exclusively imports that weren’t……”made to spec?” Is a nice way to put it 😂. It’s good to see these guys starting to go back to quality instruments!
Long time fan of Jackson guitars, I picked up the new SL2MG and it is incredible. So happy to have the soloist upgraded with modern features. The satin finish is wonderful. Would recommend to any player!
I bought a Jackson JS22 Dinky and I love it. I swapped out the tuners to locking tuners and have a brass block and new Invaders on the way. This has been one of my favorite guitars I’ve ever owned. I always loved Scott Ian’s Jackson logo on his old models ( the ransom letters) 👽❤️
I bought a Jackson Performer Rhoads ps3t, 20 some years ago. I’ve swapped out the guts on it several times chasing tone. But the body and neck combo is amazing!
I've been a Jackson fan and played since the 90's. Have 10 in my collection . Ranging from Japanese models up to the present made in Indonesia models. Never had any issues. Always perfect!!!! Diehard Jackson fan but have a couple of Esp's and of course a few PRS in there as well. Quality is quality!!! Cheers Fluff!!!!!
My first guitar was an 86 Charvel/Jackson and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve used Jacksons for 30+ years. Even when they weren’t cool in the 90s. Pointy headstocks for life. 🤘🏻
Scott was definitely the first I saw playing Jackson that I can remember, the inside sleeve for Sound of White Noise. Still love that dude, and band. My Jeff Loomis Pro Series Kelly hardtail finally arrived after ordering it back in November and sweet jesus! What a guitar. The build quality of that guitar is ridiculous. Happy to hear of any new developments with Jackson, especially with Soloists and Dinkies (my other favorite!) coming back to the US as well. The Korean made guitars are awesome though, they really shouldn't be ignored.
I’ve never owned a Jackson but played a bunch and they all played great. For sure on my list. I think the reverse headstock should be standard 😂. The new soloists look really sick!
I just ordered one of these in the same Army Green as your example. I have been begging Jackson for more fixed bridge options for years. And to finally get it in a USA model is basically a dream come true. I can't wait to play this one.
Hey Ryan: Great video. I grew up in the 80s and Jackson along with Ibanez ESP Charvel and BC Rich were the brands to have. Phil Collen and the guys in one of my favorite bands Stryper used them back in the day. Just my $0.02 worth. Thanks…🎸😎🐝
Another great Jackson topic would be the new MIJ series. When I was a kid in the 90s the Japanese made Jacksons were super popular. I love that they brought that back and I recently got an MIJ MAH Dinky (about a year and a half ago). Love the 5 piece neck, direct mount pickups, (no pick up rings) and I also love that there isn't a truss rod cover on the reverse headstock, it's really a bunch of features I love all in one guitar. It's a really well made instrument at a good price point around $2k, instead having to pay twice that for a custom shop or pay less than $1k for a piece of garbage at GC
The neck profile is what sold me on the soloist i wish they had a fixed bridge option but the floyd 1500 series isnt a big deal. Wish it had stainless but i love the neck thru and gotah locking tuners and how easy it is to play
The hardtail trend must continue! A wraptail Cutlass HSS with no pickgaurd and direct mount pickups! Some wild colors on the bodies, and matching painted headstocks. Make it happen Fluff. Even Sterling versions could sell for decent money. $799 with active pickups and I'd be all over it. Don't think I'd be the only one.
Jackson will be coming in hard with their signatures in 2025. Last year, they signed up Lee Malia from BMTH, Mike Stringer from Spiritbox and IV from Sleep Token; guitarists from 3 of the biggest bands in metal right now (regardless of how you classify metal). They will be coming in hard and hot next year.
Jake Kiley is an amazing guitarist. I love his LIAD soloist but I reckon his ESP custom M1 is more iconic. Sadly he's just left Strung Out... Will be sorely missed
I’ve been rockin Jackson since i started playing and they’re putting out their coolest guitars nowadays. I bought a new MJ Rhoads last summer and quite honestly it smokes the RR1 I had back in the day.
Same age. And thats the stuff I still love, along with Jackson guitars. I will listen to some new stuff, but I actually have to like it, lol. Still rockin my 08 MIJ DK2m.
I'm in good company then! My first good guitar was an American made Warlock made out of cherry, heaviest weight guitar I've ever picked up... I still have it but can't stand it. Floyd rose branded trem goes out of tune, and the pickups really suck. I play an Ibanez Rg for metal stuff. I still love heavy stuff, newer progressive stuff like Intervals and Monuments. But I got into singing and playing acoustic and that became my focus as a musician. Way more people appreciate it and I can just bring my acoustic no extra eqpt.
Ahhh, all you young pups, lol! I started playing when I was 12, in '77! Went to see KISS on their Love Gun tour, and left the show saying, "I'm going to do THAT!". Of course, Jackson weren't even a thing for a few more years, and way out of my teenage price range when they came out. But I'm real proud to say that the top two guitars in my collection are an RR1 in bengal yellow tiger stripes and a MIJ Dinky. And I plan to get something from their custom shop before I die. Jackson forever!
I'm a little older. I started playing at age 10 in 87. Only classical and acoustic for the first 9 years. My parent were uptight and wouldn't let me get an electric, and made me take classical guitar lessons. Got my first electric at 19, a strat. I remember It felt so tiny and easy to play, like a childs instrument, lol.
I will definitely buy a 7 string Surfcaster if they release them! No idea why, but when I saw that I was instantly sold. I like this new wave of Jacksons a lot.
Used to have a picture on my wall that I cut out from Guitar World (circa late 90’s-early 00’s) magazine of a guy (no clue from what band) playing a red Dinky 7 string with one 707 in the bridge. I would drool over that guitar and it’s still the only one I’ve ever seen.
Always loved the days of Astennu with a Kelly and Galder with a Rhoads with EMG's, but a friends 90's Dinky with an Invader was a turning point for me to go heavier in a way that I always wanted to be able to do
It is so weird seeing any Jackson without a Floyd Rose on it. But I'm all for it to be honest and glad that modern metal and rock musicians are picking them up. Jackson seem to be in a really good place at the moment.
Though the eighties Jackson and Charvel collaborated Jackson Charvel guitars were fairly popular, especially with the early heavy metal groups. I have an early eighties MIJ Jackson Charvel Charvette. Wayne Charvel ultimately had a falling out with Jackson. and Jackson and Charvel continued on separately. and eventually Fender purchased Charvel and they are still being sold by Fender. although Fender doesn't heavily market them. because they are out to sell Strats. when Jackson Charvel first teamed up they were the first serious super Strats.
My 1988 Jackson dinky p bass still is my favorite bass! Not because i helped build it but it sounds/plays great! I own several spectors but still prefer my jackson bass
They're owned by the biggest guitar brand in the world and they have been having a pretty narrow range of models for some years now. Now there's not a single Pro series guitar with the top-of-the-line FR, which is a joke, especially when they want €2000+ in some cases.
My first real guitar was a Japan Jackson PS4 that I got for Christmas of 96. The other day I was curious if they were still around and they're on reverb for like $400~500 and I feel like the guitar community are sleeping on what is probably an extremely good instrument. Anyways, I think that these new USA jackson's are perhaps their answer to the MIJ ESP E-II's. Same price but maybe a tad stripped down in aesthetics vs the ESP's. I still have my 1994 Musicians friend catalog that I probably flipped through at least 100 times. The Jacksons were always the raddest guitars and the USA Jacksons were like $1000. The Mustaine King V was $1099 which seems insane today but may as well have been a million dollars back then. I'm a bit disappointed that they decided to use the Floyd 1500 on these USA guitars. At that price point, I would have expected an OFR or Gotoh 1996.
Love these guitars. Hope I get to try one out. In talking about your history. The first time I remember seeing a Jackson outside of the 80s hair metal scene was Ben Moody the original guitarist of Evanescence. He has a green soloist/dinky that I always really liked.
This morning the pawn shop offered me a js22, gig bag, and a polishing kit for $96 so I had to take it. I thought it was a js11 until I brought it home and looked at the serial #...lol. Sounds killer through my 6505. My first non ltd electric in 20 years. This thing is a beast! lol....and only 139 (includes shipping) for new in the box js11's on ebay right now.
Still got my Black 94’ Jackson JTX. Bought new at my local guitar shop. Super thin shredder neck. Tone you can chug your way power ballad of an achie breaky hart
i wish they'd do something with the headstock to differentiate between USA and import. in the 80's, when you saw Jackson, you knew it was quality and custom shop because they were custom shop only. then they did an import line so you see jackson at a distance and it could be a 3k model or a 299 model. i feel the same way with Charvel. do the lipstick logo for USA and the stamp for everything else.
Yeah nah im sticking to my pre-fender MIJ Jackson's, honestly unreal they still some 30 years later, have that volume knob in one of the worst spots of all time. Bravo Jackson
Nice! Cool guitar! So far, my Jackson has the pickups that are most distinguished... for the simple reason that compared to my other guitars, it's very noticeable in the change of tone and input... Every time I use it, I end up lowering the settings on volume, etc. that be on my amplifier (where is most noticeable) or the levels on my interface. Hot shredding metal machines, cool color, btw. 🤘 sounds killer.
@@deathmetalglenn Yes he does! And I totally dig it. I appreciate that he brought an RR closer to more modern specs. The only thing it’s around $1,700 and it’s very competitive in that range. I’m still debating on it to see if it’s worth. Ideally hoping for a 7 string RR1T with fishmans, locking tuners, and a really nice neck/fretboard.
@@levisalazar8031 its been a while since i saw the promotion so i couldn't quite remember if i was correct or not! Im pretty sure i was really into it with the exception of the gold hardware if memory serves me right, beautiful guitar! I think I'd enjoy something very similar to your description!I had an entry model RR for about 250Euro when i was a teenager n loved it, been a single cut n super strat guy ever since then, the 15yo in me never leaves n would love to get a modern 7 string pointy guitar 😂 Maybe one day we'll find what we're looking for brother 🙏🏼🤘🏼
Had a SL3MG in Slime Green and it was a ripper and real nice. But i wish Jackson would experiment or try most styles/shapes of guitars. They're very safe and traditional shapes
If I ever get to a point where I can get a custom guitar, Id want either a silver burst RR or a green crackle soloist I’ve own quite a few guitars but my favorites have always been my Jackson’s. I’ve always felt like the lower end models hold up just as well compared to the higher end ones
IMO, when Fender bought Jackson, they took away the two things that made the brand iconic... Reverse Headstocks, and the wild graphic options (BRING BACK EERIE DESS). The only re-release i want is the KE-1 (bridge pickup only, and a single knob). I drooled over that guitar every night as a teenager in the 90's. couldn't afford it then, and have yet to find one in good condition for a fair price.
I always wanted Warrior/Xiphos but without floyd but yeah aside from some cheap Jackson ones, not what I want. Hope to see Solar X with fishmans, evertune/hipshot.
Very nice guitar! And nice color!... ( p.s.: Fluff, have you ever tried the neodymium magnet equipped Celestion speakers, like the neo Creamback or the neo V Type? Thanks! )
Jackson fanboy here, it’s a double edge sword for me. On one hand, I LOVE seeing Jackson starting to fit in with the demands of modern players i.e. SS frets and seeing them gravitate towards Jackson. Most modern players are playing “normal” shapes - djenty, shreddy, the list goes on. I’m stoked to see a lot of people gravitate towards Jackson cause they’re feeding that demographic. BUT. I’m a 2000s kid with metal getting into bands like Machine Head, Trivium, BFMV. All those bands had pointy guitar shapes and because of that, I heavily prefer V’s over all else. I saw Jackson back then sort of having the mindset that Dean has now, the “zero fucks given” motto and “unapologetically metal”. Chris Cannella was with Jackson then, now Dean so maybe that has something to do with it? I appreciate the direction Jackson has been going in as a long time fan of the company, but as a player I feel sort of left out. But I know most people DON’T prefer V’s so I understand I’m already in a smaller demographic so I understand that side of the coin.
I like when non metal people latch on to these soloist designs. They play super great.
I listen to metal but don't play it. I love the neck profile for finger picking type playing on my pro plus soloist!!!
what is a soloist design

Exactly what you see in the video.
Same body shape as the Dinky, but neck through construction.
I'll always have love for Jackson.
Man, I hope I'm not the only one that wants a production model of Mike Stringer's Jackson Skatecasters he's been playing lately.
Nope, I’m begging for one
Mike Stringer and Lee Malia surfcasters need to be a thing I will buy both instantly.
imagine they released a relived version too, that would be sick

I have that catalog. It had a green Kelly. It might’ve been the next year but I think it was 94/95 It was sweet with gold hardware.
Fender has done well with Jackson as of late, though the struggle was real, great vid thanks!
It is so weird seeing any Jackson without a Floyd Rose on it.
But I'm all for it to be honest and glad that modern metal and rock musicians are picking them up.
Jackson seem to be in a really good place at the moment.
About time, Jackson was way behind
Thank you. I always thought ESP took over for the metal artist in the 90s. I didn’t consider Fender or Gibson. Interesting time.
I love watching you play the Dragged Under riffs Fluff
If you have no clue what I'm talking about GO LISTEN NOW!
Been a fan of Jackson guitars for years and picked up one of these SL2MGs but I got the orange with the Floyd Rose and really happy with it
Love these guitars. Hope I get to try one out. In talking about your history. The first time I remember seeing a Jackson outside of the 80s hair metal scene was Ben Moody the original guitarist of Evanescence. He has a green soloist/dinky that I always really liked.
As long as they pump out more HT Jacksons, I'm more than happy.
1994?
I was 2 years old 😅
Not really a Jackson fan but that looks solid! Plus it has EMG'S so that makes this guitar dude super happy.
🤘🤘🤘😎😎
Charvel did the Surfcaster too, but the headstock was a cooler shape, which I think the dude from BMTH has on his Jackson signature. Tasty!
Still got my Black 94’ Jackson JTX. Bought new at my local guitar shop. Super thin shredder neck. Tone you can chug your way power ballad of an achie breaky hart
I dont know the details about Jackson, however that Grover Jackson seems like a smart down to earth dude.
I own a rare Jackson Kelly Star KS2. Please make them again.
One of my favorite guitars is a MIJ DK2M I have. Killer Jackson
I've definitely fallen in love with Jackson guitars over the last five or so years.
To me Jacksons are always about the neck! Love my RR5 MIJ. I really want a Soloist too!
I love all my 8 Jacksons Dinkys/Soloists - starting 1998 going to today.
Scott Ian also had his T-1000 Signature Soloist which i believe came out in 2010 or 2011. I have the single hum version of the T-1000.
your not old i m 64 and still play metal rock on my friend
I feel like Jackson never left hardcore scene. It’s nice to see them getting love again in other places.
So funny.. We started at the same time. I used to love those old print catalogues.
My age. lol. Same as ur buddy. Jackson, Megadeth, etc. Still have my first Jackson JDR concept. Made Japan
I paid full price upfront for my Jackson, there doesn't seem to be a molded case anywhere. They said about 4 weeks.
Crazy they don’t have USA on the head stock like normal. I have several Jackson USA select that were made in Ontario, California.
i wish they'd do something with the headstock to differentiate between USA and import. in the 80's, when you saw Jackson, you knew it was quality and custom shop because they were custom shop only. then they did an import line so you see jackson at a distance and it could be a 3k model or a 299 model. i feel the same way with Charvel. do the lipstick logo for USA and the stamp for everything else.
I love that Jackson is coming back. Still wishing for a 7 string modern speced RR. Man I would buy the crap out of it.
Im pretty sure the guitarist from Suicide Silence has a signature 7 string RR style
For $250 the JS 7String RR isn't bad.
Throw some better hardware and pickups in it.
Had a SL3MG in Slime Green and it was a ripper and real nice. But i wish Jackson would experiment or try most styles/shapes of guitars. They're very safe and traditional shapes
Great looking guitar, in particular the finish.
If I ever get to a point where I can get a custom guitar, Id want either a silver burst RR or a green crackle soloist
I’ve own quite a few guitars but my favorites have always been my Jackson’s. I’ve always felt like the lower end models hold up just as well compared to the higher end ones
Jeff Beck played a Jackson so it's not just metal guys that play these guitars.
Omg totally forgot about this
I love Jackson guitars one reason being my last name being jackson😂 but seeing Jim Root play one alot back in 1999-2001 with just 1 pickup
Jake Kiley is a great guitarist. Super cool and down to earth.
This guitar looks and sounds amazing! Add a reversed headstock and it's a killer one.
Great video! Love this video format
Reverse head stocks didn't even come close to disappearing after the Fender take over.
There are still many reverse models made to this day.
I always wanted Warrior/Xiphos but without floyd but yeah aside from some cheap Jackson ones, not what I want. Hope to see Solar X with fishmans, evertune/hipshot.
1994??? Old??? Dude I started playing in 1974. I'M OLD...
Keep rocking sir🤘
